Well, I was planning after I finish my college(i'm still in high school hihi^^) to go to Japan~Tokyo. I was wondering what's life in Japan? Is is expensive? Sorry for my bad English ^___^
I am originally from Australia, and the living costs are quite high there, so I would say it is quite comparable. However I find fruits to be quite expensive as they are mainly imported. I feel like fruits are a luxury here, which is a bit sad considering we get them in boxes in Australia.
In saying that, it is not impossible to live cheaply! Living 15 minutes outside of the city is a lot cheaper than living inside the city. You can get a bigger place outside the city if you are used to living in larger spaces. All of our friends live outside of the city. My hubby and I were lucky to find a western style apartment in the city but it is costly!
Tokyo is a modern city with dots of history, which I enjoy the most about being here. I love discovering the past and I am always in awe when I find out new things. It is quite honestly an ugly place for the most part, you'll know what I mean when you see it.
My favourite part is that it is really safe here! No one will ever rob you, if you ever ask for help, the people are always very helpful and like to go out of their way.
People usually don't have cars in the city because it is darn expensive to get a parking spot and there is no need. The transportation system is so convenient and with practice it is easy.
Oh and the toilet seats are warm haha.
I notice you like anime stuff, hubby and I like to watch anime too. You'll find that people don't usually openly express their like for anime here because being an otaku is somewhat seen as a bad thing here. But don't let that discourage you. Hubby and I like anime but we're still cool haha. Just gotta rock it ;D
My advice to you since you are young is to study the language with all your might! If you can do that, then your life here will be much easier in terms of job prospects, socialising, etc. I regret not studying it with full force while I was younger. I'm not old now per se but I am definitely more adult now and things don't absorb as quickly!
Another important thing to know is that salaries here are quite low, the average is maybe about $36,000 a year. If you can work in a specialised field or are loyal and stick with the same company for your whole life, you can earn higher. There are so many jobs in the programming side of things for games and all that jazz. They also have a lot of finance jobs too.
If you have anything specific you want to know, feel free to ask!
