the thing is unhatched eggs being a kind of lootbox is an unintentional consequence of player behaviour. the value of a g1 is player constructed (their gameplay value is that you can breed them with any dragon, but players like the look of a dragon with no parents and no offspring on its profile), the value of a double and triple is player constructed (theyre valuable because theyre rare and easy to match, but its not particularly incentivized by the gameplay) and crucially, literally any combination of colours can be valuable to someone. by the raw gameplay any dragon is as valuable as any other dragon but we have constructed an economy that values certain dragons and now we have a gacha mechanic.
