I wanted to tell ya how much i love Mao Mao! and I'm speaking for the whole fandom! but personally it has made me see how much i'd like to dedicate to animation, the problem is that on my country there aren't carreers to be animator that aren't super expensive, and since I have 0 knowledge about anything in the industries would you recommend being a self taught and it's possible to apply for a job with "no propper tittle" ? I know it's kind of a vague ask, but I'll like to hear your thoughts

There’s a lot you can learn on your own, especially in the internet age. Personally speaking, I don’t look at people’s education when I’ve hired them for gigs, it’s irrelevant. That’s because animation is a trade, you can either do it or you can’t, a diploma isn’t going to affect that either way.

#1 thing you can do. Draw. Hone this 1st skill to a crazy degree. Because animation means drawing all day, every day and getting paid for it.

#2 research free online resources. I’m positive you can find tutorials for the 12 animation principles online

#3 make! Just start animating. Make a cycle. Make a scene. Then make a short. BUILD a portfolio that showcases the skills you’ve built, because that’s the only real way to get a job.

Now here’s the most important and truest thing I can share. If you really want to be an animator... NOTHING can stop you. Because you have to do it. It simply must be done. Good luck, I hope I was helpful.

In your head have you always viewed MM as more of an episodic style show or one that would have overarching character and plot arcs?

It’s whatever I want it to be, really. we want to tell long stories, short stories, funny stories, dramatic stories. It’s definitely NOT a serial, but I wouldn’t say it’s strictly episodic either. People enjoy watching their favorite characters grow, learn and face stronger challenges, that requires at least some level of continuity.

Asking out of genuine desire to learn - and not to provoke you - what exactly is your objective for the handling of Shin Mao? I've already seen some aggravation from people dissatisfied with how his debut episode wrapped up, and though I've never been in a similar situation myself, I'm a little concerned about where Shin and Mao Mao's arc will take them, given how badly Shin's affected Mao Mao already. I'm very much looking forward to seeing more of your work regardless, so best of luck to you.

All I gotta say is watch the show, and don’t get ahead of yourselves. There’s a lot of meat on this bone, and we’re not going to solve an entire lifelong relationship in 11 minutes. That’d be nuts.

Who did the animation for Adorabat's breakdance and Mao Mao's turn before doing the splits from Not Impressed (I know Griffith Kimmins & Nora Meek boarded the episode)?

Grif Kimmins basically animated it in the boards, as well as MM/BC’s song and dance.

Hi, Parker! I just recently discovered Mao Mao and from the first time I saw the characters, I knew I was going to love it!! I’m currently going to school for my associates in animation and I hope to one day create my own animated series as hilarious and endearing as Mao Mao is. I was really hoping to do an internship next summer and I was just wondering if you had any suggestions of where to apply and what I need to do so. Thank you so much for Mao Mao, it really is great. Can’t wait for more!

Heyo, Mr. Simmons! Since you voice multiple characters on Mao Mao, who do you enjoy voicing the most? If ya have a favorite of course...

I enjoy them all for different reasons. With MM I get to rage and despair and anime yell and find those moments of goofy pathos. The King is always delicious and catty and self-satisfied. Slim Pigguns. And Ratarang let's me go really far with a tired tired comic accent to the point of absurdity, plus he can be adorable, a thing I'm not known for.

Hi Mr. Simmons! I used my ancient untouched tumblr in hopes of getting advice about making an awesome or in Mao Mao's terms, "LEGENDARY" pilot. I really loved the first episode of Mao Mao, it established the characters and setting beautifully, had fun action, and best of all grabbed my attention from start to finish. Do you have any tips for writing a beginning middle and end? Like, what are the most important things to think about when making/ writing a fun, action packed pilot episode?

Broadly: Emotion/Feeling/Character first, plot second, action last. You want to identify with characters before getting scared that they might get hurt.

As for how to approach a 3 act story, again broadly, answer these questions:

1) What do I want to see (your hook)

2) How do we get to see it (your plot)

3) Why does it matter for my characters (your heart)

Keep act 1 short and to the point, Establish a mission. Act 2 is where you start to open up and ACHIEVE the mission. By the end of Act 2, you gotta up the stakes. Give us a dark-night-of-the-soul. Act 3, wrap it up with a learn, a flashy sequence, a tear-jerking moment, whatever brings it all together.

Beyond that. Just start writing. Then rewrite it until it’s right. You’ll know because I guarantee the first thing you write, you’ll read and go “That’s wrong.” And because you can identify what’s wrong, you can also change it. Nothing to be scared of.

There is a gazebo-like structure next to the sheriff department's house. You know, the place where we see Mao Mao train. Is there a name for that kind of structure? I have been calling it the "Training Gazebo."
