Bites and stings - puncture injuries inflicted by an animal that penetrate the skin.
DOGS
A typical dog bite results in a laceration, tear, puncture, or crush injury.
Bites from large, powerful dogs may cause fractures and dangerous internal injuries. Dogs trained to attack may bite repeatedly during a single episode.
Infected bites usually cause pain, cellulitis (inflammation of the connective tissues), and a pus-filled discharge at the wound site within 8â24 hours.
Many infections are confined to the wound site, but some of the microorganisms in the mouths of dogs can cause systemic and possibly life-threatening infections.
Rabies is rare among pet dogs in the United States, most of which have been vaccinated against the disease. Tetanus is also rare but can be transmitted by a dog bite if the victim is not immunized.
CATS
The mouths of cats and dogs contain many of the same microorganisms.
Cat scratches and bites are also capable of transmitting the Bartonella henselae bacterium, which can lead to cat-scratch disease, an unpleasant but usually not life-threatening illness.
Cat bites are mostly found on the arms and hands.
Sharp cat teeth typically leave behind a deep puncture wound that can reach muscles, tendons, and bones, which are vulnerable to infection because of their comparatively poor blood supply.
This is why cat bites are much more likely to become infected than dog bites.
Also, people are less inclined to view cat bites as dangerous and requiring immediate attention; the risk that infection has set in by the time a medical professional is consulted is thus greater.
HUMANS
Humans bites result from fights, sexual activity, medical and dental treatment, and seizures. Bites raise the possibility of spousal or child abuse.
Children often bite other children, but those bites are hardly ever severe.
Human bites are capable of transmitting a wide range of dangerous diseases, including hepatitis B, syphilis, and tuberculosis.
Human bites fall into two categories:
Occlusional (true) bites present a lower risk of infection.
Clenched-fist injuries, which are very infectious and can permanently damage the hand, usually result from a fist hitting teeth during a fight.
People often wait before seeking treatment for a clenched-fist injury, with the result that about half of such injuries are infected by the time they are seen by a medical professional.
SPIDERS
As a rule, people rarely see a black widow bite, nor do they feel the bite as it occurs. The first (and possibly only) evidence that a person has been bitten may be a mild swelling of the injured area and two red puncture marks.
Within a short time, some victims begin to experience severe muscle cramps and rigidity of the abdominal muscles. Other possible symptoms include excessive sweating, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and vertigo, as well as breathing, vision, and speech problems.
A brown spiderâs bite can lead to necrotic arachnidism, in which the tissue in an area of up to several inches around the bite becomes necrotic (dies), producing an open sore that can take months or years to disappear.
In most cases, the bite simply produces a hard, painful, itchy, and discolored area that heals without treatment in 2â3 days.
The bite may be accompanied by a fever, chills, edema (an accumulation of excess tissue fluid), nausea and vomiting, dizziness, muscle and joint pain, and a rash.
BEES & WASPS
The familiar symptoms of bee and wasp stings include pain, redness, swelling, and itchiness in the area of the sting.
Multiple stings can have much more severe consequences, such as anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction that occurs in hypersensitive persons.
SNAKES
Venomous pit viper bites usually begin to swell within 10 minutes and sometimes are painful.
Other symptoms include skin blisters and discoloration, weakness, sweating, nausea, faintness, dizziness, bruising, and tender lymph nodes.
Severe poisoning can lead to tingling in the scalp, fingers, and toes; muscle contractions; an elevated heart rate; rapid breathing; large drops in body temperature and blood pressure; vomiting of blood; and coma.
Many pit viper and coral snake bites (20â60%) fail to poison (envenomate) their victim, or introduce only a small amount of venom into the victimâs body.
The wounds, however, can still become infected by the harmful microorganisms that snakes carry in their mouths.
Coral snake bites are painful but may be hard to see.
One to seven hours after the bite, a bitten person begins to experience the effects of the venom, which include tingling at the wound site, weakness, nausea, vomiting, excessive salivation, and irrational behavior.
Major nerves of the body can become paralyzed for 6â14 days, causing double vision, difficulty swallowing and speaking, respiratory failure, and other problems.
Six to eight weeks may be needed before normal muscular strength is regained.
JELLYFISH
Jellyfish venom is delivered by barbs called nematocysts, which are located on the creatureâs tentacles and penetrate the skin of people who brush up against them. Instantly, painful and itchy red lesions usually result.
The pain can continue up to 48 hours.
Severe cases may lead to skin necrosis, muscle spasms and cramps, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, excessive sweating, and other symptoms.
In rare instances, cardiorespiratory failure may occur.
hi gays and gals and welcome to "how to fucking write", a post (series) where i talk about how i brainstorm for writing, plan for writing, write the writing, and everything in between. nothing too serious here lmao, but i'm definitely planning on making at least a couple posts on this bc a) it's fun and b) i wanna help! so if you find this useful then pls lmk by reblogging + drop an ask if there are any specific things u want me to give my two cents on ^^
okok and now without further ado,,, let's look at the topics i'll talk about in today's post!
#1 - HOW TO START A STORY.
.. bullet point one : have an idea
the first big thing is that you need an idea. doesn't matter if you're a pantser and don't plan out your writing before you start. that's totally fine! but before you begin, you need at least an idea: maybe it's a vibe, a character personality, a specific journey you want the characters to go on. maybe it's a piece of dialogue. maybe it's the ending- the point you want to end up at after however many thousand words.
whatever it is, it's best to have some inspiration, some idea of what you wanna do. no point in writing if you don't know what you're writing, you know?
(of course, that brings up the issue of Having An Idea in the first place, but finding inspiration to write is a whole other can of worms we can open in another post.)
.. bullet point two : practice
okay, so now you have an idea. how do you put that idea to paper? how should you actually start your story?
itâs all to do with practice.
itâs the most annoying piece of advice in the world, but it helps so much. you just have to write lots and lots and lots, to find the way that works for you. whether you wanna start your stories with pretty scene descriptions, with dialogue, with dramatic one-liners. finding your voice, your style, whatâs most comfortable for you, is really really important. and takes practice.
an example, though: for me, i prefer either a line of dialogue, or one-liners that a) help immediately establish a characterâs personality or can b) introduce an interesting setting.
[chan + swingset] â one-liner example
[hoshi + silly] â dialogue exampleÂ
but of course, everyoneâs style is different. so iâd recommend playing around! find a list of one-word prompts and just write a few that inspire you, writing the beginnings. itâs important, also, that youâre having fun, because if youâre already struggling with starting to write, itâll be even harder if youâre doing it while feeling stressed.
.. bullet point three (mostly just for longer fics)
maybe you donât find a style, in the end. maybe youâre comfortable with all of them, which is totally fine! but then you look at your writing, and you think, âoh⊠this isnât as good as i thought.âÂ
and it makes you want to give up. what do you do, then? how do you carry on with your start?
just put words to paper. it doesnât matter if the words are terrible, if youâre making up shit and using placeholders for description words or whatever. just carry on, get to a place youâre happy with, like the end of a scene, or maybe a dialogue exchange you really like.
because now, guess what? youâve successfully created a first draft.
making first drafts is actually so important. seriously. first drafts allow you to fuck up, allow you to write terribly. they help you fumble and trip your way to the finish line (or at least a rest point) so that you can go back and do better.
even if your first draft is terrible, itâs helped you make your way to a point youâre happy with. now you have a vague idea of what you want, even if the description or characterisation or something is way off. because now, you can edit it, or even scrap it and use only a few words from that draft in your next one. or maybe, if you look back at it, maybe itâs even decent enough for you to use.Â
whatever it is, when you first start writing that story, think of it as âThe Worst Draftâ. because it probably wonât be as good as you want it, and itâs okay. just write, with no fears of it being bad, because thatâs literally fine. itâs not set in stone. the backspace button exists. after your first draft is made, make another. and another, and another, because i promise, after that first draft, it only gets better from there.
#2 - PACING A STORY.
.. bullet point one : adding things
pacing is always really tricky. however, i do think that slowing a story down is easier than speeding it up, so here we go,,,,
finding out the exact way to slow down a story really depends on what type of story you're writing, but there are a few all-round things you can do which can help pretty much any setting.
if it's a scene with loads of dialogue, and things feel like they're jumping to the end topic too quickly, add descriptions. your readers are blind, writers, and they depend on you to be able to see what's going on. are your characters having a conversation on the street? take a break to describe what they see. are they in a coffee shop? maybe someone comes in with a huge noise, or their coffee arrives at their table. are they hanging in midair with nothing around them? well, describe the actions of the character they're talking to, then.
example: (from my seoksoo fic bc it's the only long fic i'm working on rn)
by adding character descriptions, movement, thoughts, instantly everything seems to have slowed down. it thickens time, allowing you to move at a more leisurely pace.
if it's a scene full of action, you can do the exact same thing. maybe there's a high-tension moment and something significant happens. slow down time there, describe something small in great detail. talk about the thoughts they're having.
and even if it's just an ordinary scene, describing is important. the setting, the characters' actions, their thoughts. it's okay to write too much. then you can delete things which make things feel like they're moving too slowly.
.. bullet point two : delete
not gonna lie, finding out how to speed up the pacing of the story can often be really specifically tailored to the setting of the story.
with stories that have loads of action (spy, apocalypse, etc) i'd recommend adjusting sentence length. you'll want short, punchy sentences, without loads of commas and clauses, but you'll also want to experiment with having those short sentences gradually get longer. it helps with tension and suspense.
it has to be short. running fast. something to elevate fear. quick, but also desperate, before they then spill over each other, picking up pace, all of the thoughts blurring together and going faster, and faster, and faster, and then-
then the penny drops.
people use the metaphor of music a lot, and it really does work that way. it needs to ascend to its climax: gently, cautiously, before sprinting upwards and only describing things like the barest emotions (the fear they feel, the panic, anger, anything) before everything reaches its peak and comes crashing down in a flurry of action descriptions.
but of course, the easiest way to speed up something is to delete. delete swathes of setting description. delete unnecessary dialogue. delete an entire scene and rewrite with only the things you remember (which can help make sure you only have the essentials in your scene, btw. very helpful).
it might take a bit of adjusting, rewriting, moving things around, but ultimately, quickening the pace of the story depends on the way in which you write things. be concise, be dramatic, and don't dawdle.
... and that's it ! if anyone has anything else they want advice on (how to structure, how to write dialogue, how to plan etc) then just shoot me an ask, because i'd love to help however i can :)

âOne Summer With YouââA Kaishin Summer-themed Season!
Welcome to âOne Summer With Youâ, where we spend a whole âseasonâ to create Kaishin works centered around summer-themed prompts! All with a make-bad-art mindset!
A âSeasonâ is similar to a themed âWeekâ or âMonthâ, except with a little more prompts than a Week but a lot more time than a Month. Initially inspired by anime seasons (which is released on time with actual seasons) that sometimes has 12 episodes released per week. Though the timing for âOne Summer With Youâ is a lot more flexible, as will be explained below.
That being said, here are our Summer prompts (also listed in alt text)!
Guidelines!
Write or make art of Kaishin, inspired by the summer-related prompts above!
Approach with a âmake/write-bad-art/writingâ mindset! A barebones sketch to a paragraph long writing will do, just do what you can!
Posting your work is not mandatory, but heavily encouraged!
You are not required to do the prompts in order or finish them all, pick and choose which one you want to do first or even leave some out!
There is no hard deadline! You can keep this prompt list with you, way into autumn, into winter or for as long as you want!
But for those who want a little more structure, you can choose to work from June to August, with around one piece per week! But of course, I encourage working on your own pace <3
Please use the tag #KaishinOSWYSeason!
Of course, I will participating with a collection of ficlets on my Ao3! I canât wait to see everyoneâs contributions, but most importantly please have fun dousing our boys in those summer vibes!

To shut them up, Person B kisses them lightly and reassures them. But it isnât like Person A is listening since theyâve melted into a blushing mess.)
