A picture of my mamma (right) with her friend and roommate (left) holding plates of samosas with imli ki chutney, taken in 1982. At the age of 17, she was a B.Sc. senior hosting the Fresher's Party at Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra. .................................................................................... I volunteered to digitise my family pictures today after taking an inventory of boxes of old pictures and albums, ripping and fading away. As mamma helped me annotate pictures from her youth, she talked about people she's met, places she's been too. While there isn't enough resemblance, I couldn't help but compare myself with my young mamma before she was my mamma. The photos and the stories felt like a chasm, as well as a bridge, for the woman from the photos or the stories is different from the woman I have known. But then she's exactly the woman in the photo. She's been here all this time.
