Just outside the din of a Golden Ward arcade, there was a large fountain that was thought of to be a modern wishing-well.
Gold-painted metal coins lined the bottom of the basin, glittering daylight underneath the water’s already shining surface. Most of the arcade tokens had been tossed in with wishes of luck; innocuous enough, they tended to be desires for an assortment of counter prizes, like a handful of kazoos or a jumbo-sized Ofiuco plushie.
The machine, having not yet entered the arcade, had no such desire. It was instead preoccupied with leaping into the water and recovering those gilded wishes for its own use.
The amount of water displaced by its sudden entry, redirected by bouncing off its wings, and whenever it decided to slap another wet handful of coins back onto the concrete seating…
Well, it was a mess. Most people nearby moved away to avoid the ruckus, a couple stood briefly to shout at the nuisance he was proving, and it likely wasn’t too long until the owners of the arcade would show up to shoo V1 away.
It didn’t really see the problem.
Noticing a spot in the basin where the tokens had clumped up, it dived itself closer to grab them. In doing so, it made a roar of a wave veer toward a particular passerby that also happened to be a chimera.
( watch out, @passionforfashion! you just ironed these clothes… )
Honestly, Utage saw it as less of a problem than most people would, too. I mean, come on, you set up a fountain like this and expect the more frugal folks to not claim some of the tossed tokens for their own uses? Talk about naive!
But... the splashing was a bit much, wasn’t it? Up until the water was directed at her, she was just watching, amused, enjoying a lemon flavoured lollipop. She was able to take a big enough step back quickly enough to avoid most of the water, but she was still sprayed with a decent amount of mist and stray droplets.
“Hey, buddy,” she said, approaching now (from behind V1, and not at the sides where more water was likely to splash), “I’m not here to pull you out or anything, but you’re definitely gonna cause trouble if you deter customers. Just a heads up.”
Taking a glance at the retrieved coins, she swooped one up with the very tip of her tail to give it a closer look.
“And, like, you know these aren’t actually worth anything, right?”
