Kitchen Witch Tips

Here are a few tricks I’ve picked up along my kitchen-witchery journey:

• When frying meat, use tongs and always add the meat to the pan by laying it away from you. This prevents the oil from splashing and burning you.

• Do not prep and cook at the same time. Finish your prep before adding anything to a frying pan or sticking anything in the oven.

• 4 tbsps is equal to ¼ cup. So when something calls for 1/8 of a cup, it means 2 tbsps. No one has 1/8th cups.

• If a recipe calls for buttermilk but you’re all out, add 1 tbsp of lemon juice or white vinegar to a cup of milk and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Boom, you have buttermilk.

• Burned the bottom of your pan? No worries, I do it all the time too! To get those stubborn bits off, add water to the pan and boil it once more on the stovetop. This loosens up the grime so you can scrape it off!

• Keep brownies, cookies, and cakes moist by storing them with a slice of bread. The treat will remain decadent while the bread will harden and crust up.

• Speaking of crusty/stale bread, if you want the best french toast, leave your bread out overnight. Stale bread soaks up more egg/custard and will result in richer, Fuller pieces of french toast.

• Before frosting your goodies, stick your frosting spoon/utensil in the fridge. Colder utensils make for better frosting-spreaders.

• To prevent your cakes from cracking or rising unevenly in the oven, place a dish of water on the rack below. The extra moisture helps cakes cook evenly.

• Eat and use veggies and fruits that are in-season!

• Buy local produce when you can.

• Always work with sharp knives and always slice away from yourself. Dull knives and cuts are no good.

• Lean cuts of meat like pork tenderloin and chicken breasts toughen up when cooked in the oven, on the stovetop, or on the grill. To keep some of the moisture, wrap them in foil or add a sauce to the pan.

• Your measurements don’t have to be perfect! It’s okay to spill a little flour here and there!

• If you screw up a recipe don’t get discouraged! Cooking and baking are trial and error. Both skills come with time and part of the fun is making a few mistakes along the way!

• Intent is important. It doesn’t always matter what magical ingredients you’ve added to the dishes, sometimes intent and reason for making are the strongest most powerful forces you can garner during the process.

• Everyone has different tastes! Some people may not like what you make, others may enjoy it whole-heartedly. Don’t get discouraged if a few people shy away from your food!

🔮Working With Crystals🔮

PART 1

💎 Crystals can be categorized in three ways: shape,kind,and color. If you are uncertain of the kind when you encounter a new crystal, its color and size will act as a reliable guide to its properties. Over the years you can collect different shapes,kinds, and colors of crystals so you have a comprehensive collection for every purpose.

💎 If in doubt as to a crystal’s meaning, hold the crystal between cupped hands and allow images,words,and impressions to come into your mind. These sensations will guide you to the best use of individual crystals. If unsure, ask yourself, “What does this crystal make me feel?” Instinct will then kick in.

💎SHAPE 💎

Round crystals offer ongoing flowing energies and are ideal for every purpose.

Pointed crystals offer more powerful directed energies. Point the crystal inward to draw energy,healing,or protection toward you and outward to shed pain and negativity.

Square or Rectangular crystals bring stability and so balance an overactive home or workplace and absorb harm. (Wash them regularly under running water if you are using them protectively.)

Oval crystals attract love and fertility, and bring abundance and happiness to families,children,and animals,releasing gentle healing powers however and wherever needed.

Elongated,Barrel, or Wand-like crystals offer longer-term and slow-growing prosperity,career success,safe travel,and protection against ill-wishes. The wand shapes can be used to send a wish into the cosmos for yourself or others.(pointed crystals were probably the original magic wands).

Spheres,particularly clear quartz,energize and purify any room or workplace, attracting prosperity,health,and joy and transforming inertia,sickness,bad luck, or negativity into light and good fortune.

Pyramids,especially the squat-shaped ones, are natural transmitters of healing and enhanced psychic powers and will bring peaceful sleep in a bedroom, and calm, unity, and harmony in the home or workplace.

Quartz, the most common mineral found on earth, brings change and energizes any person,place,or situation, the intensity depending on whether it is a soft or sparkling crystal.

Jaspers bring power and growth

Agates offer balance,protection,and stability

Fossils slow down energies but bring wisdom and compassion.

Volcanic Stones, such as obsidian, cut through inertia and are fiercely defensive.

Geodes where tiny crystals are embedded in rock(a matrix)or, when split, reveal two halves of matching crystals heal any negative energies from the earth or contained in the land, remove spirits,and encourage the development of hidden talents.

I have a blind friend who indentifies the energies of a crystal purely by touch,as you develop this gift over time using the sensitive energy centers in your hands by a power called psychometry. or psychic touch, it will enable you to instinctively feel the messages contained within different crystals. ✨ Ideas for Cheap Witchcraft Tools 💰

Modern witchcraft is steeped in various traditions, and many of these traditions demand a specific set of altar tools. As witchcraft has also gained unfathomable popularity recently, various aesthetics of witchcraft have also arisen. Unfortunately, many young witches think that they NEED all of these pretty tools just to be a witch, or that their craft has to meet a specific standard of aesthetic to work.

As someone who has been practicing since long before witchcraft became popular among Millennials, I am here to tell you that that is simply not the case.

At its roots, witchcraft has always been simple and accessible to the common person. Even longstanding traditions have some kind of basis in folk magic. Long before silver-plated athames and golden chalices were mass produced for aspiring witches, our witch ancestors were using anything and everything they had available to them.

As I've talked about in previous posts, the only thing you really need to create magic is yourself. Everything else - all of the tools and crystals and gadgets - are mostly there to help you tap into your own natural power.

So, with that in mind, here are some ideas for cheap and accessible magical tools:

🍷 Wine glasses from the dollar store make perfect chalices

🎇 Some of the best wands begin as simple twigs on the ground

👕 Poppets and spell dolls can be made from literally anything, including paper, twigs, and even old T-shirts (I've even made a poppet from natural clay I found at the beach)

💎 Crystals occur naturally and can be found everywhere in nature, especially near beaches, rivers, and rock formations. They aren't any less powerful just because they aren't polished and glossed

🌱 Research native plants in your region and figure out their metaphysical properties. Use these as substitutes for mainstream herbs

🌙 Moon water literally has more properties and uses than I can count, so fill up a jar with some water and leave it out overnight on a full moon

🧂 When all else fails, salt and salt water are some of the most ancient and powerful cleansing agents and are perfect to add in ritual baths

🛌 Almost every single altar cloth I've ever owned has been a $5 black bed sheet from Walmart

🌹If you can't afford a fancy oil from a shop, make your own! You'll be able to tailor it more precisely to your intention, and you'll be left with way more than you could get at a shop. I've created an in depth tutorial for making your own oils, which you can find here

🍯 Offerings do not have to be expensive. Some of the most traditional offerings include water, milk, and honey

🐦 I can't even tell you how many feathers I've found on the ground while I'm out and about in the world. Just make sure you disinfect them before use!

🛣 Crossroads dirt is one of the most powerful binding agents known to man, and it's completely free

✍ Sigilcraft is one of the most powerful types of magic and other than the cost of a paper and pen, it is completely free. I've created an in-dept tutorial which you can find here

🧨 Color magic is your friend. Colored candles from the dollar store are your friend. Birthday candles are still candles. Tealight candles from Walmart are still candles.

👟 Get familiar with knot magic for quick and simple spells. If you can't find yarn or a piece of thread, shoe laces will work perfectly in a pinch

🍽 If you can't obtain a candle holder for a taper candle, worry not! Light the taper candle and drip about 10 drops of melted wax onto the center of a plate. Then quickly press the base of the candle into the melted wax and hold it there firmly for about 30 seconds. Boom! You now have a stable taper candle that isn't going anywhere (as long as you don't bump it)

🥫 A jar is a jar. If you use a lot of jars in your craft, start washing and saving your spaghetti sauce jars. Pro tip: If you're into color magic, use old alfredo sauce jars for purity (that is a joke)

🥕 Most of the common magical herbs can be found for a dollar in the spice aisle at the grocery store

☕ You can literally cast a spell just by stirring your morning tea or coffee. Clockwise to attract something into your life. Counter clockwise to banish something from your life.

So, yeah! Get crafty, and have fun with it. Try to change your perspective on objects you use everyday, and pretty soon, you'll see the magical potential in everything around you.

🔥 Candle Magic: A Spell for Reversing 🔄

Shout-out to Kyle and James from the Cave of the Dark Mother coven for teaching me this awesome spell.

This is a variation on a simple candle manifestation spell. With candle magic, you charge your intention into a candle and light it. As the candle burns down, your intention is released and allowed to manifest. 

With this spell, you essentially flip the candle upside-down. By doing this, you are inverting the energy of your intention. You are reversing the flow of its energy. 

Let’s say you’ve been having a lot of bad luck today. You trip over your shoelaces, you misplace your car keys, and you spill your morning coffee. This spell would allow you to break that unlucky streak. You could charge a candle with that unlucky feeling, with those memories of misfortune, and then flip the candle upside-down and let it burn. By doing this, you are reversing your bad luck. You are changing it into good luck.

As another example, let’s say you are feeling extremely unmotivated to finish a project or do some chores. To promote motivation, charge a candle with your lethargy and procrastination, then flip it upside-down and burn it. This will reverse that feeling of lethargy inside you and change it into a desire for activity.

In practice, this spell can be used to accomplish a lot of different things, such as cleansing a space of negative energy, removing obstacles from your life, or even reversing the effects of another spell. 

I keep coming up with new uses for it literally every day, some of which I’ve included at the end of this post. Feel fee to experiment and come up with your own uses, too!

To Reverse the Flow of an Energy

1) Obtain a candle. If you’re into sympathetic magic, use a colored candle that matches the energy you’re reversing. (Side note: Normal tealight candles are perfect for this, but I find tall pillars work better for larger intentions). 

2) Flip the candle over, and free the wick from the wax by pulling gently on the metal disk on the bottom of the candle. (You may have to dig it out if it’s not exposed). 

3) Gently pull the wick out through the bottom of the candle. 

4) Stick the wick back into the candle through the top. 

5) You now have a burnable candle that has been flipped upside down. (If the top of your original candle is curved like this one, make sure you prop it up with a dish or candle holder before you burn it). 

6) Charge the candle with your intention, then light it and allow it to burn down.  Treat it like any other candle spell. Pour your energy into this candle, and visualize the thing you are trying to reverse. Imagine the situation flowing the way you want it to instead. Believe that the circumstance is already being transformed. 

Some things I’ve used this spell for: 

Removing an obstacle (like financial troubles or delays)

Removing negative energy from yourself, another person, or a place

Removing a hex or curse

Undoing the effects of a backfired spell

Undoing someone’s power over you

Undoing a situation that has gotten out of hand

Reversing a string of bad luck

Reversing an undesirable outcome or occurrence in your life

Reversing a decision someone has made

Changing doubt into confidence 

Changing an aggressive situation into a peaceful one

Changing bad days into good days

A lot of other things. Remember to get creative!
