Some illustrations and pages from the Voynich manuscript.
The Voynich manuscript is an illustrated document written in an unknown, indecipherable language and created during the early 15th century, according to radiocarbon dating. It is named after antiquarian bookseller Wilfrid Voynich, who purchased it in 1912. The manuscript is divided into sections based on the illustrations: botanical, astrological and astronomical, biological, cosmological and pharmaceutical. Numerous scholars, linguists, cryptologists, and other intrigued parties have attempted to decode the unknown script with little to no success.
Old Rose on ‘Titanic’: 45 glamorous photos of Gloria Stuart in the 1930s.
Lovecraft created this handmade book in 1902, at the age of eight, to house one of his earliest pieces of fiction, “The Mysterious Ship.”
A drawing of a sailing ship adorns the book’s cover, and the back has a drawing of an anchor and shield with the word “hope,” similar to the design of the Rhode Island state flag.
