"That is a lot of anger for a man's opinion who's music you hold distain for and you do not have to see ever again if you do not wish to" Lestat confronted with a satisfied smirk as it pleased him, Louis' outburst. "No, cher. I care not for your poor decisions. May they prove fruitful and bring you much joy" he lied caring a great deal that a man he wished on his side had such deep human attachments. It ate him up inside.

Louis got something out of this though. Lestat fell silent in confusion over that last blup of unintentional wording. "What did you just say?"

"What if it was your kid too. I mean...assuming something happened between us that wasn't just some fling. If I let you into my life and you let me into yours. You would be the child's father too. I wouldn't deny you that kinda thing. If you are as old as you say you are...values were different back then. Having a child was a huge thing. I don't know if it's ever something that you desired but..."

He shrugged.

"I gotta assume it was. And I don't hate your music Lestat. I've been listening to it more. It makes my chest ache."

"...What?"

Lestat looked betrayed at the revelation, as if he was in any way involved in Louis' family planning. He fathered a child? A child was to be born to him in half a year? There was a coldness now to his eyes, a hurt. How could he? How could he. Now putting him in the difficult position of having to pluck a child's father away from them or forfeit his claim over this Southern beauty. No congratulations, no offers of wine bottles of cigars being shared. Just pure unadulterated shock.

"We should finish the photoshoot.It's getting late" How dare he.And good luck to Louis as Lestat looked at the lens full of ire and disdain so he best either have gotten all he needed earlier or blood curdling anger be the theme of this set.

How could he do this to him.

"Are you pouting? You are. You are furious that I made plans that didn't involve you prior to even meeting you!"

He pushed Lestat a bit before standing up and taking a photo of the other in that moment.

"What is wrong with a man wanting to have a family? Are you jealous Lestat?"

Now Louis was getting a bit angry.

"Do you hate me for it? Because I can have a kid and you can not? Well what if it was your kid too?"

And why is he talking like this? He barely knew the other man.

Was Louis sorry for his loss or just being polite? Did it matter, truly? His soft petals parted to speak kindness and like a starving beggar, Lestat yearned for more of it. "I am sorry you were deprived of the ferocity of the violin. Sounds like in many instances the apple has fallen very far from the tree." Louis' mother did not even accept his proclivities, let alone anything else.

"Do you love her. Your girlfriend that does not sate you in bed. As a person if not as a woman, does your heart hold affection for her"

"It does. But not as a romance. We've been...trying...to have a kid. Our jobs mean that we are able to afford medical assistance. We don't have to have sex to do it. And...I haven't told anyone but she's three months pregnant with our child. If it's a girl, we're going to name her Claudia. If it's a boy, we're going to name him Andre."

Why is he telling Lestat this? Why does he trust him enough to tell him.

"It was never romantic love though. Friendship. Best friendship. I think that's why we're not married. Because there was never anything more than that."

Lestat retracted his hand to just sit with him instead. "Of course, fine wine such as myself ought to be cherished as an occasion" he feels a slight rejection but Louis' uncertainty rings true to his ears, it is a lot to shed one's well crafted armour of pretence and be vulnerable.

He lit a cigarette offering Louis one and laid back on the bench and finding the backrest uncomfortable laid his head on Louis' lap instead but kept his gaze to the sky rather than his handsome face.

"I would prefer not to if it is all the same. The pain of mourning still clutches the heart.." he would rather not to but he finds he can not refuse Louis.

"His name was Nicholas. He was the most beautiful, sensitive boy. He played the violin for me at nights when we ran free, young and free to frolic in the orchards under the stars and I thought him more beautiful than any star adorning the night sky."

"Violin huh?"

Louis smiled softly at the thought.

"Some of my favorite songs involve violin. I was always interested in it but I was only allowed to choose one hobby growing up. When I was in school they would have you choose an instrument. I chose guitar because the violin was too expensive to rent."

He says that as they sit in the courtyard of his large home.

"That was what ma said. Learned later that she just didn't want to hear the sound of it."

He shook his head.

"Had a hell of a time trying to learn to read music so I gave it up for photography. Photography...it made more sense for my mind. I'm sorry for your loss,Lestat. To lose someone you love deeply is one of life's most powerful pains."

Louis had been going over the books for their finances when Claudia walked in wearing a new dress. It was beautiful. And it had been made specifically for Claudia.

He was just now learning how rich Lestat was. It was...more money than he could fathom and Lestat had put him in charge of taking care of it.

So the idea that a new dress had been purchased was nothing.

Standing, he made his way over to their daughter.

"It's beautiful. Fits you perfectly."

He smiled at their daughter.

"Did you have a good hunt with Lestat?"

That was a new piece of information, and Lucien wasn’t sure if he should scold the other Vampires for not telling him about it. But he really didn’t expect that Louis could separate those tastes if he wanted to – fascinating.

His heartbeat increased, something Louis could probably notice, but the touch on his thigh and his cheek, then the nip on his neck, did things to him. Rule number one: don’t let a Vampire seduce you, but damn it was hard to resist, if not impossible. The mortal reached out one of his hands to rest his warm palm on Louis’ thigh. At the same time, he leaned his head a bit to the side against the Vampire’s hand.

“Caretaker? I can do that, I’m not bad at organizing and handling stuff.” Well, he got his own life together perfectly and took care of his mother for the longest time until she died. A smug grin stretched on his lips at the last comment.

Carefully, he turned his body a bit to the side, then his right hand reached for a napkin and a pen. Lucien wrote his number on the napkin and shoved it over the counter closer to the Vampire.

“You are right. You shouldn’t just take anyone in, maybe I’m a very horrible person and irresponsible. I have a shift tomorrow night, but I have three nights off after tomorrow?”

Lucien wanted to say more, but he saw someone coming closer to them – his boss. He wanted to jump up, but an invisible force held him down. The ancient daywalker stopped right in front of them. “Good to see you again, Louis.” he said in a calm, almost soothing voice. Lucien always wondered how old his boss was. Rumors said that he was at least 3000 years old, but that was probably an understatement, and in reality, he was much older than that. “Can I talk to you for a minute?”

Fuck.

"Me, or Lucien?"

He wanted to grab the napkin with the phone number on it. But that was probably a horrible idea at the moment. Anthony was older than him. Stronger. He was able to walk in the sun and could easily come to Louis' home while he was vulnerable and destroy him. Sure, they were friendly; but he was 'poaching' the other vampire's employee.

Not that he hadn't told the other about his interests prior.

There had been no direct rule to avoid sending Lucien his affections. Perhaps he had missed an implied rule?

"Because you are the most beautiful man I have ever seen in over two hundred years" He did not allow himself to fall in love, for two centuries he mourned Nicki, his beautiful sweet Nicki. Oh, the Dark Gift broke him, broke his mind. And it was all his fault.

Emboldened, he dared to reach to hold Louis' hand to kiss his knuckles. It was a good test to see if he would allow affections. "I will not hurt you...there is no one but us and the stars,mon cher. Worse things happening in the world than allowing yourself a little indulgence to sate a curiosity in your mother's beautiful garden among the flowers."

He allows the affection even as he shakes in fear. And maybe a little bit of cold.

"Lestat..."

A blush comes to his cheeks and he's thankful for his darker complexion that it is less noticeable than if he had been born white.

"What if the idea terrifies me? Will you...give me time, Lestat? I don't want to just...jump in bed and end up regretting it."

"Who was the other man? That one before? Tell me about him."

"She lacks urges in the bedroom but reads graphic pornography. Your girlfriend is a contradiction that is for sure" He did not know how to feel about vampires being the subjects of such books. Flattered probably? Sorrowful at their missguided notions of romance? Vampires were nasty, vicious creatures that were more prone to tearing one's throat than sensually kiss it.

There was erotic fiction of everything, he supposed he wasn't really that surprised.

Louis had beautiful green eyes, emeralds that sparkled with such fire and zest. How could he not want to see himself in them, how could he not want to be looked adoringly by them.

"You needn't be ashamed of what you want. Free yourself of these shackles you bound yourself with.." Lestat's unblinking gaze was on that beautiful face. "A most handsome man with the most agreeable disposition, saint Louis. How long will you martyr yourself for the joy of others?" he questioned sitting next to him on that bench.

"Lie to yourself if you must. But I can hear your heart. I heard your breath hitch not out of terror when I laid myself to your admiration bare and vulnerable."

"I could bare myself vulnerable for you. Discreetly...if you wished."

"It's not that simple. I made a promise."

To a homophobic mother who was currently in a hospital bed dying.

Sure, his sister had children, but she was a Dupree and not a Pont du Lac. Not any longer anyway.

But he had frozen his seed. And Josie was agreeable. Would it be so wrong to let himself love a man? Lay with a man?

He did not see himself as beautiful.

But that name...Saint Louis...it sent a shiver up his spine.

Louis was different from many other Vampires he met. Usually, he got comments from those who told him to stay away from the night and the creatures of the night. That he should enjoy his mortal life far away from this world. But that wasn’t him, that wasn’t what he wanted.

“I don’t hear that often. But it’s true, it pays very well. Though, I’m free to leave whenever I want to. My contract just says that I have to keep the secrets of the night to the grave.”

But was it true that Louis wanted him to work for him? Or was he messing with Lucien? The human wanted to ask, but it was the last sentence that made his mind go blank. He knew. Louis knew about the blood. How? His thoughts probably gave him away.

“I—oh—thank you. Don’t think I tried to…pull stuff on you. My blood just…had the fruit pineapple diet you asked for.” A little embarrassed, Lucien rubbed the back of his neck. Slowly, he walked around the counter to sit down on the empty stool next to Louis. “Did you mean that? I mean, that you consider that I could work for you?” He tilted his head a bit to the side, exposing his neck a bit more. He was on his fruit diet again because he had his blood donation appointment in two days. “Or did I just enchant you with my drink? Maybe my blood without the other ingredients aren’t to your liking.”

"I can taste each element independently and then entwine them together. I know what your blood tastes like, Lucien."

He gently rested one hand on Lucien's warm thigh, and the other on his cheek before leaning in, gently nipping at the bartender's neck.

"What sort of position would you want if you were to be employed by me? I don't need a bartender. But I do need a caretaker. Someone to deal with my daytime affairs. There is only so much one can do from within their home, after all. Special windows mean I am safe there during the day. But there are things I would need you for. Though perhaps I could just keep you as mine."

He smirked.

"Though again...perhaps a date before I offer myself as your sugar daddy."

Things people utter in terror usually when confronted with fangs by surprise...please don't kill me. Please I have children.

"What a curious young man you are Louis du Pointe du Lac. Of all the things to utter seeing the proof you were demanding...I did not ask your proclivities. I merely wished for you to believe me that it is not a gimmick. I am every bit a vampire that you are a man of color, neither of us can change what we are." He saw the panic in Louis' face, his voice.

"How does my nature affect your proclivities?" he asked as to the connection, just to have Louis admit it. To say it, that he thought of Lestat like that.

"I find your mother's garden vase very beautiful. It's ornate curves, the colors. It's very pleasing to the eye, it does not mean I wish to bed it. You are allowed to find beauty in a male..you are a photographer, are you not? Keen eyes to seek beauty... you might even be fascinated by your subjects on time to time. I am very handsome and very fascinating. You need not worry,cher. I am very discreet. None need to know should you wish to explore bubbling feelings. Behind the camera in a project...or otherwise" he offered Louis an out of his shame and embarrassment, he was merely a photographer confronted by something new, something perhaps strangely beautiful...he knew of course. An out for him to maybe relegate it to fascination, an artist wanting to explore beauty like in old paintings. To admire..

Maybe in part it was Josie's fault. The fascination with Lestat's vampiric nature. While she wasn't interested in having sex...the woman read smut like her life depended on it. There is a bench in the garden, and he sits there now, shoving his head in his hands.

"Josie is addicted to these books..."

He groaned.

"The latest was about a vampire and his conquest."

Oddly green eyes look up at Lestat. Green. Not the normal brown that a man of color has. After all, the Pont du Lac's had originally been white slave owners. Until the man of the house fell for one of his slaves and had a child with her, leading to the current family line.

His sister's eyes were brown but his own...they had developed the green.

So these green eyes looked at Lestat now.

"I've been denying what I like. Yes I love Josie. Yes I want to father a child with her. But I crave her no more sexually than she craves me. Because she lacks what I desire."

And he hated Lestat. Despised him because Lestat was something he couldn't deny. A man that he was sexually attracted to. A vampire that he was sexually attracted to.

For a split second, Lucien was worried that he might have offended the famous Vampire by mentioning the movie, but it was the laughter that eased his mind right away again. Knowing what he knew now, he really had to admit that the movie wasn’t it. But back then, Lucien loved it. He watched it first when he was six together with his mother, and only way after, he read the book. Yet, his obsession with the movie remained to a point where he watched it at least once every year for ten years straight.

A soft chuckle fell from Lucien’s lips. “I’m glad you are not offended that I mentioned the movie. But damn, Armand is from Delhi? That’s news to me, though I always thought that Antonio wasn’t the right one for that role. I always pictured him to be a little more delicate? And definitely much younger looking. Though, shame on me, I have to admit that I had a crush on Brad back then.” Lucien rolled his eyes and smirked. “I was ten, so please don’t judge me. And knowing what I know now, I can tell you that I think the real you looks better than Brad’s version of you.”

His eyes sparkled in pure excitement. Was he acting like a fanboy now? Probably. Shit, he shouldn’t think these things even. His boss taught him to clear his mind and stop thinking about anything other than his work while being here. That doesn’t work too well right now.

“I’d be honored to read the manuscript, actually.” He squinted his eyes a little bit. “Do not read my mind right now, my inner fanboy moment can be way too embarrassing for both of us. And you must think I’m crazy for working at such a place as a human.”

"Your not crazy Lucien. In this economy? No. Being a human working in a place like this offers hazard pay as well as large tips and a nice pay check. I know your boss. I know he pays you well."

And yet.

"And he would be cross with me if I poached you for my own selfish needs. While he wouldn't mind us dating...to take you away from this job and have you work for me would only gain his ire."

Yet that is what he wanted.

He wanted Lucien in his household.

In his bed.

On his cock.

He took another sip of the drink that contained his blood.

"You taste amazing."

To others, it was probably just a piece of information, but Lucien widened his eyes in shock. But it made perfect sense now. Lucien read the book when he was a teenager, and to him and his peers, the stories were fiction. Lucien only learned the truth when he started working here.

“They made you that much older?! That’s almost offensive, I have to say.”

Who’d like to be made older? Especially when you are past your legal drinking age you don’t want to be made older by anyone.

“Are you allowed to give out the original manuscript just like that? Not that I’d say no to that, you got me quite curious now.”

He watched Louis drinking, and a proud smile stretched on his lips. Knowing about Vampire’s abilities to read minds, Lucien tried his best not to have any more thoughts on the drink. It shouldn’t slip past him that the blood he used was his own. His boss offered very good payment for blood donations, especially when maintaining a strict diet a week before donating blood. Fruits were always a favorite and highly requested.

“Well, I do. Though I have to admit, it’s been twenty years since I read your book. And I watched this movie they made. With B/rad P/itt. Didn’t it bother you? That movie, I mean. It was highly inaccurate.”

Louis threw his head back and laughed.

For a couple of reasons.

One...he was pleased to know that he was drinking Lucien's blood. It aroused him to know this. He wanted to sink his fangs and his cock into Lucien. Another...was the whole...movie thing.

"It was truly horrible! And T/om C/ruise as Lestat? He didn't even use that pompous French accent. And I can assure you that Armand was much younger when turned, and that he was not Spanish. No. Armand came from Delhi."

He knew Armand had been offended. But Louis found it entertaining. Lestat had been offended as well. Lestat who once more was on the rock scene in a band that wore masks. Lestat who was currently on tour.

"I'm allowed to share the manuscript with those 'in the know'. That is...people like yourself."

Lucien grinned at the famous Vampire in a playful manner. Serving drinks to Vampires was one of his specialties, besides making the common drinks for humans. The bar manager Samir was good with portions that other creatures enjoyed, but they also had two more bartenders who worked at The Delirium regularly.

“It does involve actual alcohol, but I can also give you a version without alcohol if you prefer that?”

Lucien created all of these special Vampire drinks on his own with the help of the Vampiric staff of the club. They always tested his drinks, gave their opinions, and explained the way a Vampire’s taste buds worked to him in detail. Therefore, he wasn’t surprised that Louis mentioned a certain fruit he liked.

“18th century, right? I read your book. Well, who didn’t? Must be quite a hassle for you to be that famous?”

Lucien rolled his eyes at his own words because they sounded ridiculous to him. He bent down to a very small fridge where they stored the blood for the night. With very skilled and versed moves, Lucien poured some of the right blood into his shaker, then he straightened up to add the other ingredients. After he put it all together, he shook it to mix it all together well. Then he put the shaker in a small box-like device. Unlike those drinks for humans, the drinks for Vampires weren’t served cold, but at human body temperature. It didn’t take more than two minutes until Lucien poured the crimson colored drink in one of the nicely decorated glasses.

“There you go. I hope you won’t hate it. My boss won’t like it if I annoy one of his precious guests.”

"I'm a bit...younger than that I'm afraid. I was turned in 1910. Certain things had to be changed in the book so that normal people wouldn't be able to discover that the story was true."

He rolled his eyes.

"I have the original manuscript if you would like to read that. The one before the Talamasca changed it for safety purposes. For starters, as a black man, I certainly was not a slave owner. I was a pimp. My family had owned a plantation, yes. But it had been inactive for some time."

He looked down at the drink, letting it warm his hands first before bringing it to his lips. It was...oddly delicious. A soft smile came to his lips.

"This is wonderful, Lucien. Thank you."

His green eyes remain on the other man.

"I'm sure you have questions and for you, I am an open book."

Louis thinks of Josie, how easy it was to enter this lavender relationship where she thinks him so noble, kind and understanding for her lack of urges in the bed chambers. How they make a beautiful couple, an acceptable match, how their friends adore them both.

How Lestat's eyes are so blue.

"I see how this is going, if you absolutely must be a doubting Thomas" Lestat reached to take Louis' camera to set it on the makeshift camping table used as counter space in the shoot for paraphernalia needed to be kept close by just in case the shock would cause him to drop it and damage it

Inhuman grey blue eyes stare into Louis' as they grow more darker, fangs descend.

"Vampire" he repeated tracing the bottom of his teeth his tongue now that Louis' attention was there, maybe he could make him think of his lips, his mouth, his face.

For the longest time, his eyes stare at those fangs that had not been there a moment before. His heart is racing.

Then his eyes unfocus from the fangs...and find themselves focused on Lestat's lips...and then his face. And then all of him.

He takes a step back.

"Fuck..."

Fuck, not because Lestat is a vampire. Fuck because Louis is highly aroused by it all. By Lestat. This is incredibly dangerous territory for him. His mother is still alive and...well...his mother is homophobic. Louis can not be attracted to Lestat. He can't. She would disown him.

So he needs to say it out loud.

"I'm not gay!"

"How do you convince a publication to trust your vision? Film cameras have been rendered obsolete in modern day publications due to the cost and time..." Lestat looked through the pictures and marked the ones he did not like for deletion. Sure, he could have just deleted them but that felt disrespectful.

"I am not going with it. I am a vampire. Just as much you are a man of color." Lestat uttered holding Louis' camera hostage while they spoke.

"It is not about the music. It might have been about the coffin." Lestat referred to the way Louis had behaved that day. "Why are you so embarrassed of yourself, cher?" he asked. Micro-expressions that the human eye might not be able to catch, vampiric ones could. Including Louis' elevated heart rate.

Hm. "You are right we should finish work first." He didn't want to, he wanted to get to know this handsome man with the most agreeable disposition some more but they had to finish.

"If you are a vampire, then show me your fangs."

It's a simple enough statement. He ignores the way Lestat seems to read his interest.

But he's straight.

Damnit! He's straight! He has a girlfriend. And his girlfriend is asexual so she doesn't want sex and he respects it. But that doesn't mean he's into men.

But his thoughts are bared. Easy to read. Josie is a lovely woman. And one day they'll have a kid but it'll all be medically done. Once he has enough money saved up...they'll get married and have a kid...

Vampires are not real, but Lestat's music is growing on him. Lestat is growing on him.

Lucien looked like he had to think about it carefully. It wasn’t the first time someone asked him for his number, but it was the first time Lucien considered giving it to someone. He laughed softly and shrugged.

“I’d definitely consider giving it to you depending on how the night goes,” he winked and reached for a glass. Lucien just wanted to ask what the other wanted, but stopped hearing who sat right in front of him. Louis. Louis de Pont du fucking Lac. Lucien nearly fell backwards. The daywalker and owner of the club Anthony mentioned a few times that they had famous guests, but it was the first time for Lucien to really meet one of them. Of course, he read the damn book; everyone at this club did.

“So, you are the famous Louis everyone talks about. It’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Lucien. Lucien Spencer, human and definitely not famous.”

He grinned playfully.

“Let me guess, you prefer one of our crimson-drink options. Any favorite blood type? We also have the sweetened ones by people who are on special fruit diets. My special cocktail called ‘Bloody Marc’ is legendary.”

"A 'Bloody Marc' huh?"

He chuckled softly.

"Does it involve actual alcohol? Or is it just a crimson drink with special fruit diet?"

He's curious. He truly is. Rashid would change his diet for a week prior to Louis feeding on him. But Rashid had been 'fired' when Louis found out he worked for the Talamasca. He was very much alive, of course. But he was catering to Daniel Molloy now.

"I like blood tinted with pineapple. I think I had it once when I was human and I loved the fruit. But it was a rarity when I was human."

His green eyes sparkle.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you officially Lucien."
