Saw your post on 2014…for what it’s worth, I have been watching ice dance for many, many years and never thought Paul/Islam went to the Olympics for any other reason that they were one of the top three Canadian teams that year. I love rewatching the 2014 replay and knowing that they had their Olympic moment.

I may have just gone through the five stages of grief while watching P/I’s skates from 2014 nationals. From denial ‘how is this team not still competing?!’ to acceptance ‘what they gave us was wonderful, and we are lucky to have been able to watch them’.

“Their theme became ‘no matter what, we keep going no matter what’. I bet you they’re glad they did.” - I, for one, am very glad they did.

Alex and Mitch earned their national bronze and Olympic berth outright and Tracy Wilson could see it in real time. They didn't get it because their ~superiors~ (who had the luxury of one more Grand Prix assignment than P/I did) faltered despite skating exactly the same way as they always did. Maybe P/I needed to be the type of fine citizens who bitched on social media and slammed rival coaches and camps after their disappointments to be treated with any respect idk.
