Pizza at No Problemo in Itaewon... (at No Problemo)
So many tiny faces waiting to be digested... The pajeon looks perversely happy after having that chunk taken out of him. Masochist.
Sometimes an ajosshi just needs to express himself. Over here in Korea everyone is going crazy for Frozen and Let It Go, and poor Psy has been left in the cold. I'm here with a tribute to bring some love back to the horse dancing man with a poorly sung parody/cover/terrible mess of the Disney original.
Apologies to all.
LET IT GO (GANGNAM STYLE)
The snow glows white in Gangnam tonight, not a hoofprint to be seen.
A kingdom of isolation and it looks like I'm the Queen.
My stomach’s howling from the soju deep inside...
Couldn't keep it in; heaven knows I've tried. Don't let them in, don't let them see.
Be the ajosshi you have to be.
Conceal, don't feel, don't try to smile…Oh, it’s been a while! Gangnam style, Gangnam style!
Can't not horse dance anymore.
Gangnam style, Gangnam style!
Shout at booties on the floor. I don't care what they're going to say.
Bring the soju on.
Psy never bothered me anyway… It's funny how some whiskey makes everything seem small.
And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all.
It's time to see what I can do.
Drink another bottle and break through.
No right, no wrong, no rules for me… Darling, guess what? I'm free! Gangnam style, Gangnam style!
I am one with the horse and Psy.
Gangnam style, Gangnam style!
You'll never see me cry.
Here I stand and here I'll stay.
Bring the soju on.
Shake it baby, shake the bottle. My power flurries from the bottle to the ground.
My soul is spiralling in horse-shaped fractals all around.
And one thought crystallises like a frappucino blast.
I'm never going north, Jongno is in the past!
Gangnam style, Gangnam style!
And I'll ride till the break of dawn.
Gangnam style, Gangnam style!
Where has my wallet gone? Oh, dear... Here I stand in the light of day.
Let the horse ride on.
Psy never bothered me anyway!
A few words about a masterful Korean traditional performer...

What’s funny about kicking someone when they are down?
You really need to watch some British comedy, almost every comedy show is all about kicking people when they are down. Think...
Well said! It's also worth talking about how the greatest comedy underdogs (like Chaplin) are humanised. We are encouraged to support their efforts even when the odds are not in their favour. We want them to succeed whilst laughing at their failures because we can also recognise ourself within those figures. If we look at Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean we can see the humanity of the character shine through the humour. It's painful, embarrassing, incredibly funny and can be very moving at times, but we are never against Mr. Bean. He may be the one we are laughing at, but we empathise with him, understand him and come to love him.
Back to blogging with a short piece celebrating the adverts that have appeared for many years in the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. I'm in the mood for bulgogi now...
