[ CODENAME: MEDUSA ]
years – this woman had been here for years. years of training, years of powers; emily couldn’t even begin to imagine what that was like, but steph hardly seemed to have suffered for it. that was a good thing, right? pink hair and venus fly traps aside, the woman seemed very well adjusted, and that spoke of possibly good outcomes for the other, as well. “ emily, yes. uh – em. they called me medusa? “ it fit, granted; she knew the myths. that didn’t mean she quite understood the need for codenames, or even truly what they were, only that she wasn’t human, or human anymore, and that was all that mattered. how she’d gotten the powers, she still didn’t know. twisting her fingers against each other, she offered a small smile. “ there are gardens? this place is a lot bigger than i thought it was. “ lips pursed, she glanced around the room, as if a wall might slide away to reveal some new and great secret ( and who knew, it was definitely possible. it might ). “ uh, yeah, sure. i’d like that. i’d like to see more of where i’m going to be living, anyway. i don’t… really know what to expect, you know? “
“ Medusa. So, would you say you’re..petrifying?” Steph cringed at herself a moment after she said it. Bad timing, she told herself. “ I’m sorry, that was a really bad joke. I understand if you don’t want to talk about how you got here. It took me a long time before I would.” She smiled to Em with an understanding. Steph looked about the room, her smile changing a little. “Yeah, I still don’t always know what to expect either. Follow me? Maybe we’ll find a tree that opens”
