if my memory from reading the books many moons ago is correct

vanessa and tarek are fabian friend (they’re roomies with someone else i can’t remember his name it’s like mickey? mark? marley? but he is a stripper). they do a thing called bargain brunch with waffles and champagne as a friend group.

vanessa is a lesbian who works in a sex shop and runs a sex toy review blog. tarek works in immigration and his birthday party is apart of the plot moving (i’m pretty sure he is the one who tells fabian that ryan is in love with him?)

they’re both very gay, lives in the gay village. their entire thing is being super gay like fabian a massive difference to what shy guy ryan price is use to. they don’t even have a clue who ryan price is on the context of hockey, he is just some guy to them, also tarek is there to comfort fabian when they watch a hockey gay (something about them doing karaoke to distract from the violence?), vanessa is like the voice of reason who tells fabian to stop being a cunt and give ryan a chance.

in the context of game changer book

tarek, vanessa are like the elena and maria for kip (basically his slayyyy besties who are nothing like the big stocky hockey player is use to)

there was a trope for the game changer, tough guy and common goal book for characters and their friends

character 1: the hockey player with xyz hockey friends sheltered from the world of #slayyyyy #gayyrights and only knows the cis hetro world of hockey

the reason role model was so jarring to me was even though harris is a #slayyyy #pride #rihannadiamondsasafirstdancesong gay he doesn’t actually have a stereotype friend just gen and his family.

like you read game changer with all the stereotype tropes, get into hr and it’s a different trope (forbidden work romance, it’s giving romeo and juliet type of vibes) and a bittersweet ending where they’re together but still hiding and then go into tough guy and common goal excited for a new story trope just to end back in the fucking plaza that was the first 2 books tropes and feeling a sense of deja vu. even role model felt like de ju with the tropes. tgl and hr are probably the favourites out of all the books because we actually follow the same characters it feels like proper sequels and not just the like the marvel movies where every other movie is in the universe and we get a brief cameo of a fav (can you tell rachel rachel took inspo for her fanfic source 😭)

basically rachel made ilya as a relief character in game changer and he became her lestat
