What I Would Say to High-School-Me
Donât worry about what other people think of you. Seriously. You know the quote âThose mind donât matter, those that donât mind, matter?â Well, that statement is true. Youâll find who your real friends are by staying true to yourself. Donât try to pretend to be something youâre not, because in the end, youâre only hurting yourself. Finding who you are in this world is hard enough, donât add to it by avoiding finding yourself and what your passion is.
If he made you feel insecure in any way possible, heâs not worth your time. The guy that you fall for should make you feel good about yourself, and help you aspire to be the best all around person that you can be. If he makes you feel sad or insecure in any way, leave him. Heâs not worth it. It will only break your heart in the end, and quite frankly itâs not worth your time. The right guy for you is out there somewhere, and youâre destined to meet him. The time will come when itâs right.
Be outgoing and friendly no matter what. Even if youâre having a bad day, always remember that someone could be having an even worse day. Remember that some people are very good at hiding their true emotions, and I know this because I am one of those people. So be kind and friendly to everyone. Everyone is fighting a battle, whether you know it or not.
Remain positive. Things arenât always going to go the way that you plan or hope for them to go. Itâs just all a part of your journey. There are going to be bumps in the road, but that doesnât mean you stop traveling. You push through because you are stronger than you know. Youâre too young to be filled with so much negativity. Always remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Take that risk youâve been debating about. Risks are scary. Everyone is afraid of rejection or to hear an answer that they donât want to hear. Trust me, you would rather know, instead of wondering âwhat ifâ for the rest of your life. Risks are so scary, but life in general is scary. Thatâs what itâs all about. If youâre not scared and taking the risks on these fears, then what are you doing with your life?Â
Itâs okay to make mistakes. Everyday youâre learning something new, and mistakes are a part of these lessons. This leads back to the âwhat ifâ concept in life. Sometimes, even if you know something is a mistake, wouldnât you rather make that mistake and learn from it, rather than wonder âI wonder what would happen if...â Go make that mistake anyway. Itâs okay. Donât think about what other people will think. If people say itâs a mistake, but you believe it will make you happy, go for it.
Itâs okay to cry. Some people believe that crying is a sign of weakness. I grew up in a household where I was taught this from a very young age. But as I grew older, I found that crying helps so much. Do not bottle up your emotions, because it will only build up inside you until you canât take it anymore. Just let it all out. Itâs okay. Crying is not a sign of weakness, but shows that you are strong enough to show your emotions.
Youâre stronger than you know. Donât ever give up. Just because you get into a fight with your best friend, go through a break-up, or things just donât seem to be going your way, donât put yourself down or stay upset about it for too long. Just remember, youâve survived your whole life up to this point, so why should that mean you give up now?
