The young gem was contemplating whether or not to just gun it as fast as his little legs could carry him. It’s not like the Pariah would be hungry after feasting on a larger person. . right? Besides, all Steven had done was stare it down! Not like he attacked the creature or anything. But then again, who knows what these monsters were capable of doing? They were probably unpredictable, and could catch the boy in the blink of an eye.
As Steven nervously shifted in his spot, thinking of what to do, there was a sudden projection that flickered ahead of the zombie creature. The gem himself had to rub his eyes to notice that it looked like someone so very familiar. Oh—! No way!
"Pearl!" he exclaimed with a small laugh, letting the guardian give him a nice squeeze before he was set down. "Yeah, all thanks to you! I mean, well, I prooooobably could have taken that guy and all. But I’m just—!" He shuffled closer to her, wrapping his arms around her legs to hug her again. "I’m just very glad to see you’re okay too."
Pearl smiled warmly. "Well, I'm not sure about that--" she began to say, but paused. "I'm sure you could've," she said instead.
"Are you alright? Are you hurt? Did any of those things bite you?" She knelt and put her hands on Steven's shoulders, looking the boy over shrewdly and fussing over him for a good five minutes before she pulled back.
"We need to get somewhere safe... These things are everywhere." She looked around, fretting.

They said these zombie creatures were only roaming around sector one for now. But that was last night. Perhaps they could have already shuffled their way into sector five with no problem whatsoever. Chasing after people, getting more educated with their surroundings, looking for fresh meat. Steven went on dangerous missions all the time! Granted he was still a rookie, and had so much more to learn. The adventures he went on with the gems didn’t mean life or death. And this was unfortunately the complete opposite.
He had told Lion to stay in the apartment until he got back. If anything happened to his buddy because of his mistakes, he would never forgive himself. Even if Lion sacrificed himself for the boy. Steven just wanted to see if anyone needed help. He had collected a lot of medical supplies from his bathroom cabinet and from scrounging around multiple sectors. Dealing with scrapes and injuries was his specialty.
As the young boy had walked alone on the seemingly desolate sidewalk, he spotted a figure off only a mere ten feet ahead of him. It looked to be hunched over something. Or. . More like, someone. Steven stopped dead in his tracks, holding his breath as the lone Pariah was feasting on a victim. Oh yeesh. How was he supposed to get past that? Maybe if he just tries to tip-toe back—
Crunch. Right onto a twig. Steven winced, and the creature snapped it’s head in the boy’s direction, blood and innards dribbling down it’s chin and dripping onto the pavement.
This was definitely the most deadliest staring contest he’s ever been a part of.
Pearl had been formulating a pan for getting to... some sort of safe place when she'd remembered... Steven.
She had searched for a while, but worryingly had been unable to find him...
She paused in her tracks at the sound of a twig crunching. The gem had been hiding in the shadows, trying to avoid detection, but when she spotted the figure being staring down by the Pariah... Well, it looked like she'd have to fight. Pearl quietly summoned and projected a crude copy of herself, directing it so that it drew the creature's attention from the small figure. Once its back was turned to the both of them, Pearl crept out from her hiding spot and drew her spear.
Taking a deep breath, she tightened her grip on the spear and jammed it through the creature's back. It writhed, until Pearl yanked the spear out and stabbed it again. With a weak whimper, the Pariah fell to the ground.
"Eugh... I haven't had to do something like that in a bit." She'd gotten used to peace here, but this... this was something... very not peaceful. "...Ah! are you alright?" She asked as she turned to the child.
"I'm sorry you had to see that... I'm--"
"Steven!"
She leaned down to pick up the boy and give him a tight hug before setting him down again. "Ohhh Steven, you're alright!"

Oh dear oh dear this was a disaster. Pearl peeked out from behind the dumpster she'd been forced to hide behind, scanning the lightly infested street. There were only two or three here, but if only she had her real spear at a time like this...
She knew she had to move, but... how? Well, maybe if she created some distractions, she could get back to her apartment and figure something out... Just as the Gem was trying to figure out the best route to get back to her sector, she spotted something heading down the street that was definitely not one of those Pariah creatures. ...Oh dear, she had to do something.
Thinking fast, she threw a flickering projection of herself out, wincing at the unexpected pain. What was that? Nevermind, she had to worry about this approaching person. They were going to get attacked by the Pariah roaming around here if she didn't do something! Luckily, the creatures seemed to be distracted by the projection as it yelled out and brandished a sword.
The figure was very close... She sent out another projection to get the Pariah a little further away for good measure, gritting her teeth at the second flash of pain, then reached out to grab the person's arm.
"D-don't worry," she whispered. "I'm not one of those things. Here, I have them distracted for a bit..."

unfortunately due to the end of the school year + my muse for pearl sucking atm, i'm gonna bump her up to a full hiatus soon. hopefully i'll have enough free time to post soon, though! i apologize profusely to anyone who's waiting on replies from me, and i hope we can kick those threads back into gear once my school year is over))
