Amethyst is a mermaid who finds herself trapped in a pond after the winter flooding recedes. She starts to get sick in her environment and finally reveals herself to a maiden out of a desperate need to get someone to help her.

I’m almost positive that smooching dirty gross pond mermaid Amethyst is going to give Pearl salmonella.

In the art and origins book there are some drawings and mentions of an old iteration of the show, from back when they were still developting it, in which the gems actually tried to pass as humans, so Pearl had her own car and Garnet wore gloves to conceal her gemstones, they “disguised” as humans…  

And I keep imagining the idea that the gems would have stood out no matter what anyway, sort of like wizards trying to pass as muggles in the Harry Potter books lol. (I mean, Amethyst is freaking purple, c’mon…)

Anyway, I was thinking about that while drawing this: so, Pearl and Amethyst “disguised” as humans, having a laugh because they’re having a “human date”. It’s funny because they’re not humans.
