Okay. Let’s talk. McFly Total Access. Opinions?

I’ll be honest. I thought about getting an annual membership but after they announced the “extras” for annual people last night (early access to live concerts and band follow on Instagram), I’m inclined to think I might go monthly now lol.

Living in Asia, I won’t be able to go to their concerts anyway. And I don’t have a fan account on ig (I don’t need mcfly to see what I have for dinner, thank you very much.) And of course, the prices. The extortionate prices. Ugh. Despite receiving a lot of questions regarding these extras and the prices, they’ve been quiet. So... nah from me, mates.

But then again, I’m weak. I might get an annual after all. Just not today. I’m gonna make sure I’m not one of the first 5,000 annual members so as not to take the extras from those who could really use them.

So I've gone for the annual, I don't pay for any other subscriptions or spend much otherwise so this is my one treat to myself. I completely understand not wanting to buy it, it is a lot and I get both sides of the discussion!

Luckily after some discord conversations, they've adjusted prices slightly for different countries so it's not as extortionate based on exchange rates.

Right now, they have:

Proshot of the O2 show, RAH 10 year anniversary and KCAPL Hammersmith Apollo.

4k quality of most of their music videos

The 3 song stories already out there plus 3 more for You're Not Special, Another Song About Love and Young Dumb Thrills

The documentaries for Room on the Third Floor (the one with Tom and Danny), Ryokou (Japan) and South America.

So, some of these are on YouTube (some pirated though) but obviously here they're much better quality. And of course, they'll be offering more like the livestreams etc.

I get people's apprehension, especially after Supercity, but I think this feels more serious and there's many more streaming services to learn from. Supercity introduced too many new things for its time, there wasn't enough data to help prepare them.

The cost is quite a lot, but it makes sense seeing how much is tax, how much they have to pay for crew, to host internet servers, to pay for the property etc. I've seen a lot of people oversimplify it without considering all the overheads. Most huge streaming platforms actually run at a loss, like Disney+. The complaint I 100% agree with is that the prices should be adjusted for different countries, which they've done but maybe could have lowered further?

I think if people would like to, the monthly subscription is worth trialling and it looks pretty easy to cancel your subscription if you're not happy.

I really like the idea, and while some say it's divisive due to the fomo, it's kind of just like having a patreon? Paying for extra content. While I don't think these guys are doing badly for money at all, a lot of people are overestimating how much they earn from streaming, and they may have to refund next year's tours (to everyone's disappointment including theirs) so things are tough right now.

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough, hope that helps someone at least! No harm meant to anyone, just all my thoughts around it

Oooh.. thank you so much for sharing! I didn’t know they did adjust the pricing for different countries. That is huge and very much appreciated.

In my opinion, I really don’t think they should’ve offered those “extras” for annual members. Annuals are actually cheaper if the monthlies stay the whole year, so that’s the reward in itself. Or just the insta follow should be enough, coz that’s just a silly thing and doesn’t really affect avid fans like the concert early access can be.

All the features that are in there now seem amazing and I can’t wait to experience those.

The early access doesn't make much difference I think, since it's a mostly a seated tour.

But yeah, it looks like a good start with their hilarious test livesteam today and they've just added forums so there's more to it than it might seem at first glance. I'm excited for it!

The “EAT THE NACHO!” moment - McFly: All About Us [x]

Harry: We were on tour with McBusted in Europe and I managed to arrange a dinner for the four of us because we needed the McFly chat

Tom: And this is the defining moment that I feel, like, in the stuff that followed, that kind of unraveling about friendships

Harry: We started talking about McFly, how we’re gonna approach the writing, where should we record… and me and Danny and Tom were getting really excited

Tom: But Dougie just stayed quiet through the whole thing

Harry: I was just feeling like.. oh my god, this is horrible. We’re losing him and there’s nothing I can do

Tom: It’s a Mexican restaurant and we ordered this nachos to share. I feel like it’s the most symbolic thing. We got to the point there was 4 nachos left in the middle of the table. Harry picked one and ate it.

Harry: Then Tom took his one and Danny had his.

Tom: And there’s one nacho left. Dougie didn’t eat the nacho. I remember sitting there and in my head goes, “Eat the nacho!”

Harry: ‘Doug, please, just eat the nacho. Just.. (whispers) just eat the nacho.’

Tom: The band is the nachos! And if he doesn’t eat that nacho, he doesn’t want to be in the band anymore

Harry: I finally broke I just, “Doug.. do you wanna.. nacho?” He was like, “Nah, man, I’m fine.” …. He’s gone!

(I’m sorry this is such a long ass post. I just had to show this iconic moment in full! It took me hours to finish this lol)

Grimmy: You were with Dougie, and I don’t know if you recall but Dougie was wearing  a blouse, essentially – which is not a diss, I’m all up for a man wearing a blouse – and it was sort of cut down to the navel.

Ellie: Yeah *laughs*

Grimmy: It was so distracting that producer Vik, Tina Daheley, Fiona and Myself don’t remember anything else from that night apart from Dougie Poynter’s face and chest. And if we’re honest, that’s all we talked about at lunch the next day.

Ellie: I get distracted by it even; he wears those shirts quite a lot… He’s all about wearing the shirt down to there and the long necklaces and he’s all tanned, so why not?

Grimmy: To draw the eye in, it’s like an optical illusion. Do you ever look at him and be like ‘you are so fit.’

Ellie: Yeah and he’s like ‘shut up’. He hates it, he doesn’t like compliments. He doesn’t take them very well… He’s lovely and gorgeous and doesn’t believe it.
