Barts Contribution

I set up both of our social media pages ( Facebook and Twitter ) along with our group blog on Tumblr, the email and also Google Drive that we use to store our files and easily share between each other along with that I automated the process sharing posts from Tumblr to Twitter and Facebook. I helped in making and designing the first presentation that we used during the pitch and helped Dylan in making the animatic by taking the photos for him. I helped with the creation of the story and chimed in with the choice on the art style and look of our main protagonist Uri. I wrote up the introduction for chapter one and wrote about the history of animation and wrote up chapter five in the scope document. Throughout our progress with the project I helped in keeping the blog up-to-date and organised for ease of access to our posts along with doing research on the history of animation. I re-designed the logo that Dylan had created. I designed most of the presentation that we will use for the second pitch along with any images used throughout it including the opening image.

I created the army van that was used in the animation along with various weapons that weren’t used in the animation in the end. I sourced w I further developed the backgrounds and added textures to them to make them look more realistic as well as give it a better atmosphere. I worked on the group's website and purchased the domain for it. I edited the logo to match the style of the website. ( pentoolstudios.com ) I helped Andrew with sourcing and editing the audio. Wrote 1/3rd of the project book as well as creating and texturing the poster. Updated basecamp with posts from Tumblr. Kept our Google Drive organized.

Andrews Contribution

I helped with the process of creating the character of Uri through drawing and developing sketches. I played a part in the storyboarding process in which the initial story was planned out. I co-created the initial project pitch slides along with other team members. I have been present at every group meeting and supervisor meeting this semester. I have played a role in doing background research to assist with the development of our project. I also attended the Afri-Hedge School 2016 in ITB which discussed the work of Roger Casement in relation to the Congo and the current migrant crisis in the world today. I organized each of meetings with our supervisor through the student email. I have updated our Blog with research, agendas from team meetings etc. I assisted Dylan in creating the animatic for our project pitch. I have regularly been active within our group chat in which ideas, inspiration and other pieces of research have been shared. In relation to prototypes, I co-created the character experiments with Dylan. These included Uris father, his mother and the rebel soldier. I created a background depicting a migrant camp. I created the army tank as an asset for our prototypes. I completed chapters 2 and 3 of the project book. I completed the audience section of our research booklet due as part of the Group Project Phase 1 module.

During this semester, I was placed in charge of contacting our supervisor with regards to group supervision meetings. Along with Bart and Dylan, I was involved in the storyboarding process. I created the hospital interior and exterior( with Dylan's background) featured within the animation. I posted my work regularly on Tumblr. I attended all group meetings and participated fully. Uris mother, father and the doctor character were created by me. These backgrounds were textured by Bart. I wrote a third of the project book and helped screengrab tumblr posts for printing. I created 2 concepts for the poster and a concept for the project book.

I was in charge of the audio for the animation. I conducted a number of audio tests during the semester which involved using both stills of backgrounds and animated scenes. I conducted audio tests using a combination of Adobe Premiere Pro and Reaper. Reaper was used as a means of altering the sourced sound.

Dylan’s contribution

I created the team logo in Adobe Illustrator, I also helped to create the first Aleppo presentation. I began work on the first illustrator design for Uri, our protagonist. I created printed and bound two soft copies of the Aleppo presentation. I created and invited the group members to our Facebook group chat, which we use to communicate with each other. I continuously am working on updating the group blog we have on Tumblr. I gave input for the trans media storytelling idea for part of our project in the form of QR codes (which will hopefully be put up around the college to give more information about our characters and facts about the on going crisis in Aleppo). I storyboarded the first section of the story and also provided input for the overall story and how it should go. I also built an animatic which was put at the end of our presentation. I created this by scanning my storyboards and bringing them into flash to create a short animatic. I transferred all of our blog posts from Tumblr to basecamp. I created the animatic used in the second presentation. I also created half of the characters (Andrew did the other characters.)I wrote chapters four and six along with the research section for chapter one. I created a number of backgrounds too. For the research part in chapter one I researched the “theme” section.

I created all illustrations for the animation excluding the convoy truck (which Bart made) and the first hospital interior and mother, father, doctor and hospital building exterior illustrations (which Andrew created) . This was done by using adobe illustrator. I animated the whole of the animation in Adobe Animate excluding the run cycle of Uri from behind, which Andrew created. I used Adobe indesign to create the look of the project book and wrote a third of the content in the book. I have written regular updates on the group's Tumblr account to keep people informed of our project. The poster was created in collaboration with Bart. I created the illustrations for it and Bart added the textures. I created and edited the team's first animatic to give an idea of what the story would like like, shot by shot. I created ⅓ of the second animatic and edited it. Added effects like dust, fog, lens flares and smoke to most of the final scenes. Helped create the final presentation with Bart and Andrew, this outlined our progress up to this point. Attended weekly meetings with supervisor to further progress with the animation.

I have created the doctor character for our animation. This is the last character needed for our animation.

More development on making the scenes look better and more refined, more animating too. Ive been adding mist and dust textures to the piece so that there is more depth in the piece. I’ll be uploading more posts soon from backgrounds/animations I have worked on.

As the deadline approaches, we are almost finished with the animation process. I have tried to include as much movement as possible in every scene, it has been a great learning process. I have included the poster we have decided to go with, Bart will texture it and improve the overall composition.

I have created a new version of Uris mother for the animation. Her lips have since been altered to look more realistic.

Here is a poster concept that I have been working on. The idea originates from Uri looking at himself from a future tense. The saddening scene from the child in the back of the ambulance is shown through a tank outline.

We will decide which poster to use for our final animation from the three already created.

I have been assisting Dylan in the animation process by completing the scene were Uri leaves the hospital. The animation itself needs to be slightly tweaked in order to look correct when tweened.

The team met today to discuss progress in terms of animating, texturing and audio. We plan on keeping to schedule and in doing so having the completed animation done in advance of May 8th. We will meet next Wednesday to discuss our progress.
