Ness & Schmece - Season 3 vs Season 7
[Inspo]
The Looks: S6.
S1 S2 S3 S4 S5
Huge props to Zooey who mostly takes over “longing looks” duty for Season 6 and knocks it out of the park.
Cece: “You weren’t upset ‘cause I was dancing with Nick, right? …cos I think he’s really into you.”
Paul: “Did anything happen between you and Nick? Like, did you guys go out, or?”
Julia: “Eventually, Nick is going to come running to you.”
Angie: [Assuming Nick is going upstairs to hook up with Jess]
Walt: “You really seem to care about Little Nicky.”
Bonnie: “I’m glad you have someone who takes care of you.”
Russell: “I’m glad to see this is finally happening.”
Caroline: “I always thought that it was Jess.”
Abby: “You and Nick are brave. You guys know each other, you get under each other’s skin.”
Ian: “Clearly, he would do anything for you.”
Sam: “It’s Nick.”
Bob: “I don’t even think he realizes it, but he’s still in love with you.”
Schmidt: “Nick you have been in love with this girl from the moment that you opened the door and first laid eyes on her.”
Is Nick Miller Jessica Day in love? >> Cooler, 2.15
Just a reminder that in “Cooler” Jess literally lasted like four hours before she missed Nick so much she had to make a fake Nick out of a melon.
“Nick…kind of sneaks up on you.”
The original pitch for Nick - “Jess will...give him back his heart”
“Working at a bar for 10 years has made him an amateur therapist. He’s incredibly perceptive about other people, but his one blindspot is his own life- he doesn’t see that he needs to get out of this rut.”
“Which is really about fear - underneath it all, he’s just freaked out of losing everything again.”
“Jess will slowly lead him to ‘get his angries out,’ and give him back his heart.”
Liz Meriwether’s original pitch for Nick
The original pitch for Jess - “Her main crush is Nick”
“Even though he drives her nuts, her main crush is Nick - she fights against his cynical advice, and her optimism drives him nuts.”
“The great thing about their relationship is total honesty - that they have nothing to lose around each other, so they don’t hide anything.”
“The problem is - they compare everyone they meet to each other.”
Liz Meriwether’s original pitch for Jess
okay so after having the night to think about it, i love the proposal/proposal episode even more. nick has spent god knows how long trying to come up with his first proposal plan and then that blows up in his face. he then spends the next month trying and failing three other times with different ideas on how to ask jess to marry him. nick keeps stressing how “perfect” he wants the proposal to be for jess and i think it’s partly because of how much he loves her, but also because of the expectations he thinks she has for it and him. a theme throughout the show is how nick thinks that jess always wants to change him in someway and that “nothing [he] does will ever be good enough for [her]” (to quote him from the season 6 christmas episode). he doesn’t want to disappoint/fail jess, so he works so hard crafting and stressing over creating a perfect proposal, only for her to find out what he’s been planning. what i love about it is she immediately tells him that the only thing that will make the proposal perfect is that it’s coming from him, nick miller. he looks so happy when she says that because he understands now that he is enough and all she wants is him. he literally gets down on one knee as soon as she says that with a huge smile on his face. nick was so happy during jess talking about their future that he had literal tears in his eyes; that’s how happy he is about marrying her!!! i think the proposal did a really good job of finally stamping out nick’s anxieties over jess wishing he was someone else or would act a certain way. all jessica day wants is to spend the rest of her life with nick miller. i think all in all it was simple, beautiful and really showed how much they just want to get married and be together

Someday soon, your whole life’s gonna change You’ll miss the magic of these good old days
I maintain that Nick is a little bit overprotective of Jess in the flashforward (grabbing her shoulders) because she’s pregnant ❤️
The framed note from Jess in Nick’s office in S7 is everything

I love this comment (on the AV Club review of “House Hunt”) so so so much.
5x10 vs 5x22
Oh Jess.
“We get a glimpse at [Nick’s] innate compassion at the end of the pilot, when he’s the first of the roommates to ditch the Wild West party to save Jess from her disastrous non-date”
