When Emerald is mad at Mercury--legitimately mad, or upset with him--she doesn't rib on him or act any meaner than she usually is. She just stops talking to him. Entirely. She ignores his existence until he apologizes or shows he genuinely wants to talk it out. It usually doesn't take too long for him to figure it out, though.
Somewhat cracky headcanon, but:
If Emerald gives you a nickname, it means she likes you.
If she snarks at you with a string of insults, she likes you a lot.
If she doesn't use your nickname, but normally does, it means she's being serious.
If she doesn't use a nickname at all for you, she doesn't like you (or knows you hate nicknames and is trying to save her ass).
Emerald likes to use her Semblance to tease Mercury whenever he pushes her buttons too much. Usually, she can handle his degenerate attitude, but when he's really starting to get on her nerves, she's quick to fire back by using it to make the smallest of things happen around him: she'll do things like making his food taste bland, or make him smell terrible things without batting an eye (and when he asks--he who smelled it, dealt it, she always says).
She does remember one distinct time where she made him see the most garish, obnoxious, colourful unicorn. She barely kept the illusion up, though, as she was too busy laughing at his reaction to the sight.
Sappy Emercury headcanon time:
Whenever Emerald couldn’t sleep at Evernight (Salem’s castle), she grew into the habit of crawling into Mercury’s bed. She almost bailed the first time until he gave in, seeing how distressed she was. The first few times after that she was hesitant, and now she can’t help the habit.
Vacuo’s been difficult without him—because it’s the second worst place in the world for her, next to Evernight. And he’s not there to keep her as calm as he used to.
Yang is the only member of Team RWBY that Emerald is actually afraid of. The rest never scared her, but Yang’s volatile temper reminds her of old days when she was starved—a life she doesn’t want to go back to. The rest don’t scare her, and she’s found herself a little attached to Oscar, who reminds her of another street kid she knew years ago that was like a little brother to her.
Emerald’s not much of a hand-to-hand combatant, but she’s learned a few things.
Notably, the expert backflip-kick she used to disarm General Ironwood was one of a few tricks Mercury taught her.
