Final Reflection
There are several things that I would like to write about CAS, some good, some bad. I’ll start with the good. First, I think that the idea of CAS is a magnificent one; students share and reflect on their progress made with things that they find interesting, like playing the piano, or getting more muscular. This idea is wonderful, but I feel like it was executed poorly. First of all, in my opinion no one should be forced to do something that they don’t want to do. I’m not saying this as a bratty teenager, but as an adult. Being forced to share what you do on a semi-public forum (since you can make your blog private) regardless of whether or not it makes you uncomfortable to do so. In my case, I never enjoyed recording or sharing my ventures in drawing or music online because I didn’t grow up in a household that thought that a social media profile was very important. Because of this I was very uncomfortable and awkward while recording my CAS blog. Another thing to note is that I, personally, do not feel the need to attend things involving service, like meeting with disabled children, or volunteering at the animal shelter. I don’t feel the need to do these things not because I’m a horrible person, but because I would rather contribute to society by helping people that I randomly meet on the street than habitually go to an organized event that, over time, would start to feel like a job. Overall, I feel like CAS did not help me achieve anything that I would not have been able to achieve myself and that having to record myself was extremely deteriorating to my motivation because I didn’t feel like I was doing it because I wanted to, but because I had to for the sake of graduating.
