A Very Common Boy is Today's Protagonist

I’m A-ya. Boring, common, normal. Why I created this blog is beyond me. Probably because of my friends’ (or whatever you call them) consistent persuasion to be social when I’m terribly unsocial. Since I’m boring, my blog will naturally be boring as well. I beg you, amuse me, atleast. No point in beginning something without receiving an interesting gift in return, eh?

A-ya covered his ears because of the noise as he cursed under his breath, extremely annoyed at the situation. His partner, finally using the authority she has long abandoned due to her own laziness, stood beside him. C-ne, meanwhile, was trying to calm her mun down; all of them did, but the effects of the drugs in her system was unstoppable, hence, she is almost possessed, insane, and out of control.

((What the heck do we do in situations like this))

“Leave. Forget. Sleep.”

His partner, though, insisted to save her friend from her insanity, clasped her hands on her shoulder and continuously shook her like a rag doll.

The partner gone, A-ya was again alone with these two helpless freaks. He sighed heavily, rubbed his forehead, and looked at them annoyingly. "Ah, go to sleep please."

((Ah, haven't talked to anyone for awhile.. Sorry, but I won't be replying for the following months or so because school has suddenly gone hectic for like, in one day, exams are almost coming up, and I'm very screwed up because I missed a lot of my classes but I think I can survive. Also, no point in replying when I won't be answering it as quick as before and the RP kinda loses its momentum and pace so..

((three months of hiatus, maybe even for a year since we're trimestrial no A-ya for awhile but I've been seeing a lot of A-yas popping out there so they'll probably the best ones to talk to with compared this boring piece of trash that't only curious with the occult

((though, i'm filling up my queue in my active account which you should be able to see at the terms of agreement page but that won't be active for long

((ahhhhh, sorry. I started something and I won't be able to maintain it and it's very frustrating for me because I intended to keep A-ya as active as much as possible but I do have priorities sooo...

This the caused of my death,A-ya......

A-ya saw the flashback that caused this spirit's death. As he watched the girl struggle with the rope around her delicate neck, he could feel someone closing into his own neck as well, as if he was also hanging from that rope. He watched from the shadows as the girl cried, she couldn't even scream even if she wanted to, her neck as if it was going to be pulled apart. Saliva dripped from her mouth and he could see urine coming from her skirt. It wasn't a pleasing sight so he averted his eyes, and realized that there was another person watching the same horrible scene. 

There was another girl... Must be Seiko's classmate since they wore the same uniform. Like him, she watched helplessly as her classmate slowly died. He couldn't see her face from behind but he knew well what it looked like...

Seiko noticed this boy.Bloody red eyes.Black hair.He wear the same uniforms as C-ta.She went to the boy.He was holding a rabbit.Thorn-out rabbit plushie.

True, he thought as he sensed the girl’s worried tone. 

He was at a worn out building, a school he guessed, similar to that old abandoned building at their own school except that this was worst. It looked more or less a school building; the floors creaked at every step, the doors have fallen out from their hinges, it was cold and dark, and cobwebs covered the walls. He couldn’t help but feel his hair crawl out as he roamed around. And when he heard a girl’s voice, he would have screamed and scummed away, but instead, he slumped on the floor, unable to even let out a small shriek, frozen in terror.

So, when he saw the girl’s gentle, worried face, he felt a bit of relief. But, he knew better that he shouldn’t speak to her. She might be spirit prepared to attack him once he said something wrong.. So, instead of asking his whereabouts, he stood up, hugging the rabbit doll tightly to his chest and ignored her. .. In a school like this, spirits of dead students are most likely to be around, extracting revenge or simply having fun by torturing humans. This is not good, this is not good.

Still slumped on the floor, he averted his gaze from her, terrified that he’ll witness his own death from this innocent-looking creature.

Seiko kept on silent.The silence does lasted long.She thought she should give him what to say,but nothing happens.Maybe her words seems to be a harsh.

Seiko,if you just stop fooling about it!

Seiko felt pity of the young boy.She decided to make up her words.’Listen kid,I’m sorry if I said harshly to you.Like most spirits in this school really love to kill people who came here,but I have no intention to kill you.I am a forgiving spirit.I hope you understand.Can you please ask me your name?’

A-ya almost gasped. The spirit can read my mind! He managed to keep himself composed, which looked ridiculous as his rear was stuck on the floor, his dull eyes attentively looked for a way out. But then, he was clearly at lost right now, and this spirit, who just told him that she was harmless, might be his only ticket to escape. Somehow, he felt a sense of excitement in this nightmare.. As if he was in a maze with a lot of hidden traps and obstacles..

How can I communicate to her without talking… He wondered as his eyes glanced upon the dusty floor. Ah..

With his index finger, he wrote his name on it, forming the words, ‘A-ya.’ Then, he continued..

‘I am afraid I can’t trust you for now so I would just have to talk to you indirectly..’

As if an afterthought: ’How about you? What is your name?’

Seiko looked at the boy.Suddenly,she saw the boy write something on the dusty floor.He written his name on the floor.’A-ya,huh…..sweet name.’the spirit said.Then,she saw A-ya write more.The second sentence made her feel upset then,but continued to look at the boy’s writing.

‘My name is Seiko Shinohara.Glad to meet you,A-ya!’she said cheerfully.Suddenly a frown came upon her face.The sentence about ‘‘I am afraid I can’t trust you for now so I would just have to talk to you indirectly’ made her a little upset.She rubbed A-ya’s hair softly.She feel sorry about him.The frown is upon her face

A-ya shuddered as the innocent-looking girl stroked his hair. He felt more cold and terrified. He covered his mouth to suppress the scream that was about to come out. He can’t lose himself here, in this difficult situation. He could hear the girl sobbing quietly and he cursed himself with his mistake, not that it changed anything since she could obviously read his thoughts, but maybe he had somehow provoked her when he actually wrote it down.

With trembling hands, he wrote on the floor: Seiko huh.. Are you a ghost?

He knew the answer but then, he had to assure that she was indeed one, though, it was unlikely for a girl to roam at places like this. Thinking it would be a kind question, he wrote: Are you lost?

Seiko kept on stroking his hair until she saw another sentence.He knew that Seiko’s a ghost.She just smiled at the boy’s question.She read the next sentence.Possibly no.She’s already in a place where she lives now.Not the real world.The another world.Heavenly Host Elementary School.

Seiko stopped rubbing the boy’s hair.She looked at the boy’s terrified face.Terrified looking at her.His face.Seiko saw A-ya’s face.The same as Yuka’s innocent face.

Seiko-oneechan,where’s big brother?’

Seiko stared at A-ya’s face one more time.His terrified-looking face.Red innocent eyes.His terrified is just the same as Yuka.He reminded Seiko about Yuka.She said,’If you tired,follow me to the infirmary.I know there’s a spirit live in there,but I tried not to let it get you,okay?A-ya?’

A-ya shook his head in response and wrote a no on the floor. She didn’t answered his question and he was afraid of what would happen next if he asked again. He did a shaky thumbs-up sign to indicate that he was okay. He embraced the rabbit doll closer to him as he again felt the pangs of terror overwhelming him. He breathed hard..

How do you get out of here? He wrote next.

My friends..? You mean.. His face twisted in surprise upon this new discovery. He checked his pockets for a paper scrap and found none. He couldn't remember how he got in here, but he did remember that he was with C-ta, B-ko, and D-ne awhile ago. They were.. Just what were they doing..? They were at the usual old school building.. Then.. Ah, he couldn't remember what they were doing.. Did they perform some kind of ritual again that brought them to this place..

He wrote aggressively on the floor, his face perspiring and his hand trembling.. Will you kill me if I speak? He asked. Talking like this was difficult, plus, his own writing was barely visible from the dark. This girl doesn't seem to be a dangerous spirit either but he couldn't be too sure.

D-ne let A-ya take her mirror fragment, that thing she felt represented her entire view on life, a broken piece of something, that caused bad luck to whatever it touched. Her fingers, B-ko’s borrowed fingers…were still bleeding, that essential liquid dripping down her hands, onto the paper, onto the floor, and D-ne didn’t care. She pressed her hands together, her blood staining her skin as it failed to stop flowing.

“Your world…is a mix between truth and lies. Actually, that kind of world…is also B-ko’s, isn’t it?” D-ne paused, taking a small breath before she continued. “Mine…is one of darkness and light.  Of existence and non-existence, being and nothingness…” She said this quietly, almost to herself, but not really caring if A-ya had heard her.

She spoke up afterwards, wanting to make sure A-ya heard these next words, but her gaze was still somewhere far away. “If you’re looking for what C-ta wants from you, I can tell you that.  He and I are alike in this manner as well. All that we want for our happiness is attention from that one person, and one person only. So to…as you say…’fix’…C-ta, all you would have to do is give him your attention. Give it truly to him, and make sure that he hears you.” She laughed darkly here. “This obsession of ours sometimes makes us…quite…deaf… If you can make yourself heard by him, that would be enough. If it was B-ko, it would be enough for me.”

“As for who B-ko is to me? She’s my savior, and my torturer at the same time. Before I met her, before I had heard of her, I already tried to reach perfection once, and failed. I lost that match. But when B-ko gave me attention, her perfection dazzled me and once again showed me how bright the world could be. She’s simply amazing, in how she can handle any situation with ease. Her brightness, her light, her perfection showed me how utterly imperfect that I am. And so, I wanted to be her and not me. I cannot match perfection, cannot match her. As such, I can’t be in the spotlight…”

D-ne paused again, collecting herself before she continued speaking. Her gaze refocused on A-ya, and a small smile was on her face from this memory. “I remember the first time I saw her without her ‘mask’ on. It was…a magical day. On that day, I saw that she wasn’t always perfect. My past attempts to reach perfection had failed, and if my target was imperfect at me? That made her even more worthy in my eyes, to be the person that I wanted to emulate, to become. So I tried to find out everything about her, with or without her knowledge, since I needed that information to continue with my quest. How the color of her eyes change in the sunlight and in the rain, how she ties the ribbon on the left side of her hair, even how she ties her shoes and wears her uniform…I needed all of this to satisfy my darkness, and try to reach her light…”

A-ya returned to his chair, gently putting down the mirror on the table. He stared at his blood-stained hand as he listened to D-ne’s explanation, her voice as silent as the room. He wanted to laugh at them— four clueless and stupid children— but was only able to produce a low, strained chuckle. “No wonder the four of us stick together. We’re pretty hopeless, ever since.. People who try to change who they truly are.. People who try to reach for their ideals..People who try to change the world’s permanent flaws. People who try to escape fate.. When you look at it, ‘fate’ merely sounds like a beautiful word for ‘world’ and ‘myself’.”

His chuckle grew louder. He was about to cover his mouth in impulse when he saw his stained hand. “In retrospect, we’re just people who try to find meaning in life.. Trying to find a reason in everything.. Yes, that’s what we are…

“Even you. You say that you’re nothing. You’re worthless to be someone like B-ko, when in truth, you aren’t.. All of us are mere humans.. To call yourself ‘nothing’, ‘empty’, ‘a doll’ is like distinguishing yourself from us petty humans. You’re no different from us, you said so yourself, yet you keep telling yourself that you’re not human, which is quite ironic for me. How will you ever reach B-ko, a mere human, when you yourself can’t treat yourself like one,” he stared intently at his stained hand.

“Ah.. You’re probably aware of this, I believe. But then, maybe I just want to confirm it. You’re merely denying yourself. And, you try to find all reasons to do so. It isn’t that unreasonable at all… You’re somehow like me, a pessimist… And if that’s how you perceive yourself. I can change that, anyone could, but there’s always that wall blocking your way…. A wall that needs constant smashing..”

He sighed. “B-ko has bigger problems than I, I think,” he looked at D-ne and tilted his head as if in wonder, his eyes expressionless as always. “You look at her as if she’s some kind of goddess while you look at others as if we’re ants you could just trample and make fun of, which isn’t that different from my own hobby.. I don’t really understand your mind but I think I’m grasping it a bit…

“Heh.. This mirror,” he pointed to it. “Why do you even have this in your pocket? It doesn’t seem to be the kind girls usually use..”

D-ne’s gaze remained focused on A-ya as he spoke about…her view on the world. his strained laughter making just a little irritated. Yes…he and I…we really are alike in that manner…we refuse to see it, the light in our darkness, as we indulge ourselves in our obsessions, to the point of madness, on the verge of insanity…Maybe, I’ve already fallen off that cliff…at least he can function without someone else…I simply continue to build my walls, isolating myself by being me, by being so focused on my target that no one else matters…

“Challenging fate…That was the main reason why I liked the occult. It could give you whatever you wanted, whatever you wished for, as long as you were willing to sacrifice your life, your soul for what you desired. Even if it was greedy, even if it was selfish, even if it was all just me…believing in my ideals to the point of losing everything that made me an individual… If I was offered this from that cursed Book and Bookmark that you made us summon…I would jump at this chance. I can’t change of my own accord. Even this appearance of B-ko’s that I have right now, I wasn’t able to obtain it through normal means. i needed to rely on random magic to achieve this.”

“You’re right about my walls. They’re built up so high and so thick…That I can no longer see the other side. Even If I was immersed in lights, those walls of mine would continue to cast me in shadow… My thoughts about myself have continued for such a long time, that I no longer know any other way of thinking…How do you change what seems like a lifetime of darkness? Is it even possible to change that darkness into light while still allowing this nothing known as ‘D-ne’ to exist?”

“Ah…You see? There I go again… Even when I try to accept myself as a human… Those walls get in my way…” D-ne, still in B-ko’s borrowed body, leaned her head on one hand, not caring about the blood that still covered them.

“As for my mirror fragment…That thing…came from an old hand mirror that I dropped when I was little. I became fascinated with the scattered reflections of light, and I kept all the large pieces. How each one would reflect something different, scattered around, when all together, they would have formed an image. The broken pieces…They were kind of like my mind at the time. Whole and then, broken by failure to hold on to what I wanted. I keep this one in my pocket as a reminder of that time. The edges are still sharp, but when held properly, don’t cut me.” She paused, as she laughed, but only a little bit. “That is, it doesn’t cut me when I’m in my body. This piece was the largest of the fragments. I spun it to learn how to watch people without being noticed, how to scatter light to brighten up the dark. My fingers bled for days until I finally figured it out. The nice thing about it…is that it can still double as a weapon. Since we’ve entered in this Demise Game, I felt the need to always carry it, with the intent to use it to stalk B-ko, or as a something to defend myself from monsters…It’s both pretty, and dangerous, a thing that reflects when properly used, and hurts you if you hold it the wrong way. Its…me…objectified.”

“Well, I can’t do anything about that. I could just listen. I can try standing up and shaking you off your despair but no.. That would be so unlikely of me so I prefer to just sit here and watch you talk bitterly about yourself…

“I also tried it once… To become someone I’m not.. But I realized that that idea isn’t me at all so I decided to just be myself.. A silent, boring fellow who indulges himself in occult.. A person who dislikes the world so much..”

He took the mirror fragment, the mirror that symbolized D-ne, careful to not wound himself again, and studied his reflection. His face didn’t changed a lot ever since his meeting with D-ne. His air was unkept, his eyes were swollen and deep, and he looked very pale and sick— pathetic. He wanted to leave the room, to stop himself from pouring more of the feelings that he has only shared to his cellphone; feelings that remained unsent and unheard. He wasn’t the right person to hear D-ne’s tale and she wasn’t the person he wanted to share his feelings with. Actually, she was the last person he could ever think of (as if he knew a lot of people) to relate himself to. D-ne was.. D-ne was broken. If she couldn’t fix herself, what more him.

“I doubt B-ko herself could fix you.. But then, maybe it’s just me..” he said, sliding the mirror fragment towards D-ne. He stopped midway and saw her hidden expression from it. She looked so pained and desperate that he looked away.

“The Demise Game huh..” he muttered. This. This is the real Demise Game. He laughed silently. Thinking about both of C-ta and B-ko’s own game, playing against their own selves. He took the mirror back. “I’ll be having this for awhile, if it isn’t a bother for you. The way you use it.. Maybe I should begin practicing as well,” he said, with a bit of energy on his tone. He twirled the mirror but it fell on the table. A bit of blood stained his own reflection, a person twitching in pain, as he felt the mirror’s slash across his hand. 

Holding his hand, he bowed down to hide his distorted expression. This what it feels like huh. To be in real pain.. Somehow, physically feeling it made him understand how a difficult feeling it was. It was a comical idea, to allow himself get hurt just to understand something. But then, wasn’t he always like that? Experimenting his own emotions and feelings just to further understand himself to the point he realized that the world was too boring for him. He hissed as the warm blood slithered on his arm. He was a mess.

“That mirror fragment…it’s one of many. It was simply the largest from that time. I’m not even sure if the bad luck has worn off from then. Not that it matters, anyway…I can always break another mirror…. Seven years of bad luck multiplied by an empty existence is still zero…”

She watched as A-ya tried to spin the mirror fragment, and couldn’t help but giggle at his awkwardness, as he hissed in pain. “I think I know I’m beyond help. I’m probably beyond saving, even if it was B-ko…” She grinned wryly at A-ya before she continued. “Certainly this talk with you has only shown me how terribly lost in the dark I am. Even you, you Boring Boy…you’re more brightly lit than I am…”

D-ne stretched and picked up the mirror fragment that he’d dropped when he tried to spin it. “You can have this, but…you did that completely wrong… Let me show you, slowly, how mirror spinning works…” Maybe…I can show him how to do this without cutting myself in this body… She demonstrated her technique, going slow enough for him to watch, the movements of her fingers moving the glass over and under, almost hypnotically.

“Brightly lit huh..” said A-ya, watching attentively at the mirror spinning on B-ko’s fingers. His hand was still bleeding. He could feel his own blood flowing through his wound. As if suddenly remembering, he wrapped handkerchief around it. 

“If that’s how you see me, so be it.. If I made your realizations worst, then that’s probably because I’m not person you should ever talk to.. ..Actually, this is the worst conversation we can ever conjure.. But then, I did realized a lot.. of many.. many things..”

When D-ne stopped twirling the mirror, it gracefully fell on her hand, not a splatter of red in sight, and placed it down gently. “Ah, so that’s how you do it,” he commented, taking the mirror with his wrapped hand and tried the trick himself but failed. The mirror fell again but atleast his hand was safe from its sharp edges. He tried it again, feeling its rhythm… and failing again.

“I actually thought of breaking this in pieces after you told me it represented yourself..” he said, as took the mirror again. “But I think breaking a mirror isn’t enough to change you.. It’ll be purely symbolic, and nothing else..” then he laughed silently, the mirror falling again. How romantic it sounded like. Him breaking the piece that represented D-ne? It was such a nonsensical thought.

He finally gave up with the mirror and allowed it to stay on his palm. I want to get out of here.. I want to leave this place.. Lifting the mirror, he stared at its shine, its light reflecting on his eyes. It stood still at the air for some time before he weakly put it down, not towards his throat as he had imagined, but back at the table. I still have stuff to do.. There’s C-ta and.. Who else..?

Ah, he was already tired.. Tired of thinking too many things..”D-ne..” he whispered bitterly.. “Have you ever gotten tired of reaching out for B-ko..?” He asked absentmindedly.. “It’s my final question, before I leave this despairing place..”

“Breaking an already broken mirror…Wouldn’t you fear the bad luck that would bring you? Seven full years worth…But…seeing as its you, you’d probably enjoy that, wouldn’t you, A-ya?” She chuckled a little bit before she decided to give him her take on that mirror fragment. “Actually…breaking it might’ve had an effect on me. When B-ko did it… it felt like a piece of my heart shattered. Even if it was you, A-ya, and not B-ko… it probably still would have worked… to place the key in that locked box in my head… maybe even you could have fixed me…” She shrugged, as he placed it back on the table. “Whatever you choose, Boring Boy…its all up to you. You pulled us all into this messy Demise Game, after all…Actually…I should thank you. Because of this…I got to kiss B-ko…”

“As for reaching for her…That’s not something I can stop on my own. Surely all this talk has shown you that much about me? Its impossible for me to not try. I think…even when I was little…This kind of thing was already a part of my nature, being drawn, almost like a magnet, to whatever I admire. My chance meeting with her changed my life. I think I was just as boring, if not more so, than you before she came… I had nothing to look forward to, nothing special, and every day was just the same. B-ko…is everything to me. So I can’t stop. I can’t get tired of her. Maybe its just greed, but…I never will get tired of her.” 

Pouring everything about me to A-ya of all people…Perhaps it was better this way…better for B-ko to not know all of this… D-ne shrugged again, since thinking about their conversation more wouldn’t help at all. Its not like I can go back and change what I’ve said to him… “Stay or leave. Go ahead and do as you please, Boring Boy.~”

A-ya blinked, feigning a vague expression of surprise that D-ne managed to kiss someone like B-ko. Somehow, he was curious at what kind of reaction that girl had, he almost laughed. "You're welcome then," was his mere reply, averting his face from D-ne's line of sight to hide his small smile. He wanted to ask D-ne for more details, but then, this wasn't probably the right time for it... He did understand the situation they were at.. A dark atmosphere surrounding the room with demise..

He decided to stand up, picking up the mirror with his bandaged hand. "A chance meeting huh.. What would you have become of you if you never met her, I wonder.." he said vaguely as he again tried twirling the mirror with his fingers. Again, he failed but he caught the mirror before it fell on the table without wounding his hand. He was getting better at this, he thought.. Experimenting with pain was something he hadn't done before. Maybe he could begin now, through this mirror, until he can call himself a master over it. Like how he controlled his emotions and fear...

Then, maybe, he could fully understand what his friends would feel..

After that..

His mundane life will return.. Again.. Hah, life is indeed a wheel..

"This conversation helped me realize a project that I haven't been aware of for so long.. Thanks," he muttered, smirking a bit. He turned on his back, waving at D-ne behind him. ".. That was refreshing.. .. And suffocating at the same time.." As he walked away, his feelings were a mixture of reluctance, intrigue, terror, and excitement that he imagined himself drowning from it. He wanted to leave but he also wanted to hear more form this girl, but was afraid of what more he might discover.. He had enough for today..

"The next time, let's have this conversation again..." he said in farewell before disappearing from the room.

True, he thought as he sensed the girl’s worried tone. 

He was at a worn out building, a school he guessed, similar to that old abandoned building at their own school except that this was worst. It looked more or less a school building; the floors creaked at every step, the doors have fallen out from their hinges, it was cold and dark, and cobwebs covered the walls. He couldn’t help but feel his hair crawl out as he roamed around. And when he heard a girl’s voice, he would have screamed and scummed away, but instead, he slumped on the floor, unable to even let out a small shriek, frozen in terror.

So, when he saw the girl’s gentle, worried face, he felt a bit of relief. But, he knew better that he shouldn’t speak to her. She might be spirit prepared to attack him once he said something wrong.. So, instead of asking his whereabouts, he stood up, hugging the rabbit doll tightly to his chest and ignored her. .. In a school like this, spirits of dead students are most likely to be around, extracting revenge or simply having fun by torturing humans. This is not good, this is not good.

Still slumped on the floor, he averted his gaze from her, terrified that he’ll witness his own death from this innocent-looking creature.

As if he was in a maze with a lot of hidden traps and obstacles..

How can I communicate to her without talking... He wondered as his eyes glanced upon the dusty floor. Ah..

With his index finger, he wrote his name on it, forming the words, 'A-ya.' Then, he continued..

'I am afraid I can't trust you for now so I would just have to talk to you indirectly..'

“Well, this is unusual.. If this was indeed a date, this would be my first,” he shrugged casually. “Not bad at all..” he remarked.

To call yourself ‘nothing’, ‘empty’, ‘a doll’ is like distinguishing yourself from us petty humans. You’re no different from us, you said so yourself, yet you keep telling yourself that you’re not human, which is quite ironic for me. How will you ever reach B-ko, a mere human, when you yourself can’t treat yourself like one,” he stared intently at his stained hand.

“Ah.. You’re probably aware of this, I believe. But then, maybe I just want to confirm it. You’re merely denying yourself. And, you try to find all reasons to do so. It isn’t that unreasonable at all… You’re somehow like me, a pessimist… And if that’s how you perceive yourself. I can change that, anyone could, but there’s always that wall blocking your way…. A wall that needs constant smashing..”

He sighed. “B-ko has bigger problems than I, I think,” he looked at D-ne and tilted his head as if in wonder, his eyes expressionless as always. “You look at her as if she’s some kind of goddess while you look at others as if we’re ants you could just trample and make fun of, which isn’t that different from my own hobby.. I don’t really understand your mind but I think I’m grasping it a bit…

“Heh.. This mirror,” he pointed to it. “Why do you even have this in your pocket? It doesn’t seem to be the kind girls usually use..”

D-ne’s gaze remained focused on A-ya as he spoke about…her view on the world. his strained laughter making just a little irritated. Yes…he and I…we really are alike in that manner…we refuse to see it, the light in our darkness, as we indulge ourselves in our obsessions, to the point of madness, on the verge of insanity…Maybe, I’ve already fallen off that cliff…at least he can function without someone else…I simply continue to build my walls, isolating myself by being me, by being so focused on my target that no one else matters…

“Challenging fate…That was the main reason why I liked the occult. It could give you whatever you wanted, whatever you wished for, as long as you were willing to sacrifice your life, your soul for what you desired. Even if it was greedy, even if it was selfish, even if it was all just me…believing in my ideals to the point of losing everything that made me an individual… If I was offered this from that cursed Book and Bookmark that you made us summon…I would jump at this chance. I can’t change of my own accord. Even this appearance of B-ko’s that I have right now, I wasn’t able to obtain it through normal means. i needed to rely on random magic to achieve this.”

“You’re right about my walls. They’re built up so high and so thick…That I can no longer see the other side. Even If I was immersed in lights, those walls of mine would continue to cast me in shadow… My thoughts about myself have continued for such a long time, that I no longer know any other way of thinking…How do you change what seems like a lifetime of darkness? Is it even possible to change that darkness into light while still allowing this nothing known as ‘D-ne’ to exist?”

“Ah…You see? There I go again… Even when I try to accept myself as a human… Those walls get in my way…” D-ne, still in B-ko’s borrowed body, leaned her head on one hand, not caring about the blood that still covered them.

“As for my mirror fragment…That thing…came from an old hand mirror that I dropped when I was little. I became fascinated with the scattered reflections of light, and I kept all the large pieces. How each one would reflect something different, scattered around, when all together, they would have formed an image. The broken pieces…They were kind of like my mind at the time. Whole and then, broken by failure to hold on to what I wanted. I keep this one in my pocket as a reminder of that time. The edges are still sharp, but when held properly, don’t cut me.” She paused, as she laughed, but only a little bit. “That is, it doesn’t cut me when I’m in my body. This piece was the largest of the fragments. I spun it to learn how to watch people without being noticed, how to scatter light to brighten up the dark. My fingers bled for days until I finally figured it out. The nice thing about it…is that it can still double as a weapon. Since we’ve entered in this Demise Game, I felt the need to always carry it, with the intent to use it to stalk B-ko, or as a something to defend myself from monsters…It’s both pretty, and dangerous, a thing that reflects when properly used, and hurts you if you hold it the wrong way. Its…me…objectified.”

“Well, I can’t do anything about that. I could just listen. I can try standing up and shaking you off your despair but no.. That would be so unlikely of me so I prefer to just sit here and watch you talk bitterly about yourself…

“I also tried it once… To become someone I’m not.. But I realized that that idea isn’t me at all so I decided to just be myself.. A silent, boring fellow who indulges himself in occult.. A person who dislikes the world so much..”

He took the mirror fragment, the mirror that symbolized D-ne, careful to not wound himself again, and studied his reflection. His face didn’t changed a lot ever since his meeting with D-ne. His air was unkept, his eyes were swollen and deep, and he looked very pale and sick— pathetic. He wanted to leave the room, to stop himself from pouring more of the feelings that he has only shared to his cellphone; feelings that remained unsent and unheard. He wasn’t the right person to hear D-ne’s tale and she wasn’t the person he wanted to share his feelings with. Actually, she was the last person he could ever think of (as if he knew a lot of people) to relate himself to. D-ne was.. D-ne was broken. If she couldn’t fix herself, what more him.

“I doubt B-ko herself could fix you.. But then, maybe it’s just me..” he said, sliding the mirror fragment towards D-ne. He stopped midway and saw her hidden expression from it. She looked so pained and desperate that he looked away.

“The Demise Game huh..” he muttered. This. This is the real Demise Game. He laughed silently. Thinking about both of C-ta and B-ko’s own game, playing against their own selves. He took the mirror back. “I’ll be having this for awhile, if it isn’t a bother for you. The way you use it.. Maybe I should begin practicing as well,” he said, with a bit of energy on his tone. He twirled the mirror but it fell on the table. A bit of blood stained his own reflection, a person twitching in pain, as he felt the mirror’s slash across his hand. 

Holding his hand, he bowed down to hide his distorted expression. This what it feels like huh. To be in real pain.. Somehow, physically feeling it made him understand how a difficult feeling it was. It was a comical idea, to allow himself get hurt just to understand something. But then, wasn’t he always like that? Experimenting his own emotions and feelings just to further understand himself to the point he realized that the world was too boring for him. He hissed as the warm blood slithered on his arm. He was a mess.

“That mirror fragment…it’s one of many. It was simply the largest from that time. I’m not even sure if the bad luck has worn off from then. Not that it matters, anyway…I can always break another mirror…. Seven years of bad luck multiplied by an empty existence is still zero…”

She watched as A-ya tried to spin the mirror fragment, and couldn’t help but giggle at his awkwardness, as he hissed in pain. “I think I know I’m beyond help. I’m probably beyond saving, even if it was B-ko…” She grinned wryly at A-ya before she continued. “Certainly this talk with you has only shown me how terribly lost in the dark I am. Even you, you Boring Boy…you’re more brightly lit than I am…”

D-ne stretched and picked up the mirror fragment that he’d dropped when he tried to spin it. “You can have this, but…you did that completely wrong… Let me show you, slowly, how mirror spinning works…” Maybe…I can show him how to do this without cutting myself in this body… She demonstrated her technique, going slow enough for him to watch, the movements of her fingers moving the glass over and under, almost hypnotically.

"Brightly lit huh.." said A-ya, watching attentively at the mirror spinning on B-ko's fingers. His hand was still bleeding. He could feel his own blood flowing through his wound. As if suddenly remembering, he wrapped handkerchief around it. 

"If that's how you see me, so be it.. If I made your realizations worst, then that's probably because I'm not person you should ever talk to.. ..Actually, this is the worst conversation we can ever conjure.. But then, I did realized a lot.. of many.. many things.."

When D-ne stopped twirling the mirror, it gracefully fell on her hand, not a splatter of red in sight, and placed it down gently. "Ah, so that's how you do it," he commented, taking the mirror with his wrapped hand and tried the trick himself but failed. The mirror fell again but atleast his hand was safe from its sharp edges. He tried it again, feeling its rhythm... and failing again.

"I actually thought of breaking this in pieces after you told me it represented yourself.." he said, as took the mirror again. "But I think breaking a mirror isn't enough to change you.. It'll be purely symbolic, and nothing else.." then he laughed silently, the mirror falling again. How romantic it sounded like. Him breaking the piece that represented D-ne? It was such a nonsensical thought.

He finally gave up with the mirror and allowed it to stay on his palm. I want to get out of here.. I want to leave this place.. Lifting the mirror, he stared at its shine, its light reflecting on his eyes. It stood still at the air for some time before he weakly put it down, not towards his throat as he had imagined, but back at the table. I still have stuff to do.. There's C-ta and.. Who else..?

Ah, he was already tired.. Tired of thinking too many things.."D-ne.." he whispered bitterly.. "Have you ever gotten tired of reaching out for B-ko..?" He asked absentmindedly.. "It's my final question, before I leave this despairing place.."
