“Nah, I wouldn’t do that. Though I wouldn’t sound so confident about beating me if I were you. Like if gaming was a talent, it’s my talent. But packing will most likely be done I can promise that, though I can’t say there won’t be a couple breaks during said packing, but packing is guaranteed.”

“Yeah, maybe, but like, I could become a creepy hobbling old lady who scares kids to prevent their shin-kicking abilities.”

“But you would still have another shin, that easily kickable. And I feel like fear will only make trying to kick your shin, more enjoyable. The only way you’ll be shin-kick free is if you’re always in a wheel chair.”

“I mean it might need to be amputated. Just the shin. and then they’ll like…just attach my foot to my knee.”

“Are you sure about that? Like have you tried an apollo kid and their magical healing powers and you know any other option then like, get rid of a part of your body like that. Walking would be hard.”

“So, I was walking through the city, minding my own business–and some kid, he had to be at least ten, but younger than thirteen, comes up to me, kicks my shin, yells in my face “fuck the patriarchy”, and then runs off. Like…was I in the wrong?”

“Personally, I don’t think so. But in his mind obviously. But I’m very sorry that happened to you, are you okay? Is your shin alright?”

“I have two smuggled six packs of Coke and about half a bag of Airheads.  Is that enough to convince you to pack my stuff for move in day next weekend?”

“That is a good offer.... add in an hour of playing video games with me and I’ll do it.”

“Not really. I just happen to be very persuasive.” A quiet, and rare laugh escaped from Karine as she shrugged it off. “Anyway, she’s staying so that’s good news.” She trailed off into a silence as she stuffed her hands awkwardly into her hoodie pockets.

“I don’t believe that. because I mean, while I tried and it wasn’t enough. And I was very persuasive like a ten out of ten of persuasiveness. I just, I think she needed you.” like I do, He thought. “But, that’s great news. I’m glad you guys are friends again.” He nodded with a smile. Looking down at his shoes. It was great news, but not everything was completely back to normal. “So uh, can I offer you a soda? Mountain dew, you’re favorite.” He awkwardly gestured towards the fridge. Trying to break the ice.

“Okay but, picture this.  What if I didn’t want to stop at 100%?  What if I wanted to go beyond perfectly dapper and enter into a whole new level of dapper?  How do you think I should go about that?”

“Oh wow, that would be legend-wait for it-dary. It’d be legendary. Okay we have to write this down, this will literally be the formula to maximum dapper-ness. Bow tie’s are essential. Pocket squares, required. And cane if you want to be fancy. Oh and hair gel.”

“So, you still think that it’s the love the writer has for the person the song’s for?  Either way, I feel like Selena Gomez took the cheap way out in just saying she loved someone like a love song instead of being more specific as to how she loved the person.  It just doesn’t seem as personal to me.”

“Well yeah. Like that’s the reason the song exists is because of that writer’s love for that person. But that’s also possible. I guess we’ll never really know but we could assume. I mean it’s a fun song and all but it’s not like I think she really connected with it emotionally or anything, I think it’s just one of those basic god hits.”

“thank you, but i’m sure i just left them in one of my purses. i’ll find them soon.” she laughed and handed the sweets over with a smile. “don’t remind me…actually, can you say that one more time? y’know, refresh my memory of whose the best person ever.”

“If you need help I don’t mind helping you look for them, especially if you’ll use them for me.” He grinned, taking the sweets in his palm and already opening one of them and plopping it in his mouth. “This is some good chocolate. Like literally so good.” He spoke with the chocolate in his cheek. “You my friend, are literally the best person ever, you are indeed amazing.”

“in my defense, i might’ve lost all my drachmas, so i couldn’t ask your mom to send you a message upon my arrival.” flora let her eyes roll playfully as she dug into her purse. “how could i forget?”

“Awh, I’m sorry. I hope you find them. I could even help you.” He whispered, “Score.” Tightening his fist. “You are literally amazing.”

By the time she had made amends with Rose, night had began to settle at camp but she still had another visit to pay, the outcome of which she wasn’t sure. Exhausted, in all manners, she walked down towards the Iris cabin and knocked on the door quietly. When the door opened, she sighed in relief. “Guess who’s decided to stay after all?”

Peter was pacing throughout his cabin since he’d gotten back from the Ares cabin. He even began stress eating but he stopped that, out of fear of having his hands covered in cheesy dust when Karine came by. He tried to play video games to keep his mind off of it but he couldn’t concentrate. But at the sound of the door, he shot up. And ran over to the door, opening it, he smiled, trying to keep it casual, and not show that he was nervous. “She’s staying? She’s staying!” He exclaimed. Lowering his voice he pointed at her. “Yes. See, I told you, she needed you.”

“See, that’s what I was thinking too.  But, I couldn’t decide if that was just the fact I always think I look this dapper, or if it really was the hat helping out.”

[peter-reed]

“Hmm...I personally believe that the hat adds to it. It’s a great ensemble overall. But the hat is like the thing that makes it 100%. Like without the hat it’s at least 75% dapper. You need the hat.”

“If you think about how many people though love one love song, then it might be like they love that person as much as that.  Which would be more than the person who wrote the love song.  But I definitely get what you’re saying.”

“Well I never thought of it that way. I do believe a lot of people’s love for one song is monumental compared to one person. But like without that one person who was in love in the first place, then they wouldn’t have the song they all love.”

“i leave for a year and rotten strawberries and no hugs is what i come back to? this is unfair and downright cynical of you all.”

“Well I didn’t get a letter in advance. How was I supposed to know! But welcome back! Though I gotta ask, did you bring me anything. Maybe...some chocolate...or like a really cool hat...”

“Alright, so honest opinion time is upon us.  Does the hat make me look dapper as fuck or lame as fuck?”

[peter-reed]

“Very dapper. Like 100%.”

“Okay, but if you love somebody like a love song, does that mean you love them as much as you love the song?  Or like the person who wrote the song loves the person the song is about?  These are the real questions.”

[peter-reed]

“I personally believe it’s like the person who wrote the song loves the person the song is about. Because loving a song isn’t that like, wow, that’s so sweet. It’s like ‘oh okay.’ But if it’s like the person who wrote it, it’s like you love them the same as the person did who wrote it. But you’re just not capable of explaining how you feel like they are, so you love them like a love song. You know?”

She took his hand and got back up onto her feet. “Don’t start with me, Pete.” She warned, shaking her head at him with a slightest smile but nevertheless a smile. Karine started walking towards the door but stopped and turned back on a second thought. If there was ever a time to just go with impulsive thoughts, now was the time. “When I get Rose to stay, which I will, I might pay a visit to your cabin. If you’re okay with that, obviously. I just thought maybe we could talk.”

Helping her up, he chuckled a bit, “Now go get our friend to stay.” He smiled softly. Trying to remain calm, he leaned against the wall, tapping it with his hands. He turned to the sound of her voice, he nodded. “Um, yeah. I’ll be there. ‘Cause I live there. Totally. Mhmm.” He put up awkward thumbs up. Which he knew he’d scold himself for later.
