Meet Peter Wilson, Age 18

Bio: Essentially a newer and straighter Jonathan Groff, Peter has been a star on Broadway since the tender age of 8. He as since grown up in the (relatively dim) spotlight that Broadway.com gives him, and often skips class to go to auditions. His mother likes to tell him to keep his head on the ground, to stay humble and know his place in the world. He does, he knows exactly where he is. He also knows that he's an attractive boy with a great voice who isn't hurting for ladies. And with a successful career pretty much guaranteed for him, he's not all that worried about school. He's going to move to an apartment next year, and he's been trying to get his girl to go with him. He's not worried about a thing. Except, maybe he's a little worried about his little sister, Nora. He knows how boys think, and he doesn't want anyone thinking anything like that about her.

Best Friends: Grant Hughes, Hanna Flannery, Darren Sherwood, Tamara Manning

Friends: Nora Wilson, his little sister. Zack Patterson, this underclassmen who clearly has a crush on him, but she's pretty sweet, so he hangs out with her sometimes. 

Girlfriend: Carmen Ricollo - they're pretty perfect for each other. Like Galinda and Fiyero, really.

Enemies: Lizzie Grace - seriously, that girl's just annoying, and she's way too hung up on Darren

Crushing on: Hanna Flannery - Fiyero did always have other interests. She's hot and flirty and why not? It's not like he's going to have Carmen forever, and eventually he'll have to get serious and mature - eventually. But he could see himself settling down with a girl like her.

Peter Wilson (FC: Colin Firth) is currently open. The following is an interview with playbill.com that he gave recently.

Interviewer: So, William, how old are you and how long have you been in the business?

William: I’m old, I’ll tell you that much. Or do you want something more specific? I’m 40. And sometimes it feels like I’ve been doing this that long too.

I: Could you explain to us a little bit about what exactly it is that you do?

W: I’m an actor. I, you know, act.

I: That’s very interesting. What would you say it was that first got you into theatre?

W: Honestly it’s been so long that I have no idea anymore. I just know I’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember. When I was eight, I played Winthrop Paroo in the 1980 revival of the Music Man, and ever since then, this is what I’ve been doing.

I: And did you always think you’d make it to Broadway?

W: Well yeah, I guess, since I’ve been doing this since I was a kid. But to the amount that I have been able to be in this community… no.

I: Okay, let’s get a little bit more personal then. Can you tell us about your childhood?

W: Well before The Music Man, it was pretty much like normal New York kid’s life, you know? I lived in a tiny apartment, went to school, played with friends, and got yelled at whenever we went into the street. After Music Man, though, it was definitely different. I was tutored ever since then, even if I wasn’t doing a show at the time. It was just easier that way, you know? My mom wanted me to keep playing with my old friends - to keep grounded, you know, but it was just hard to relate to them after that. I’d like to think I’m still pretty grounded, though.

I: Uh-huh. And what about now? What would you say your life is like?

W: I’ve kind of fallen into the routine of just getting up, eating, going to work, and all of that stuff. I have a daughter from my first marriage, who’s currently in rehearsals as Petra in a genderbent version of Bare, and I couldn’t be proud of her. She was even nominated for a Tony last season when she was playing Liesl!

I: What show are you currently working on, if any?

W: I’m currently playing Captain Von Trapp in the revival of The Sound of Music.

I: I love that show! Who would you say your favourite person in the cast or crew is? 

W: My daughter, of course. She’s not a part of the show anymore, but it was always my dream to work with her, and I hope I get to again soon.

I: Is she the best person you’ve ever worked with, or was there someone else?

W: Of course she’s the best person I’ve ever worked with.

I: What about love life? Do you have any off stage love interests?

W: Not currently, no. I went through a messy divorce a few years back, and I’m not so sure I’m ready for that quite yet.

I: Alright then. Why don’t we get back to you specifically, though. What would you say some of your strengths and weaknesses are?

W: I’d like to say that I’m a good parent, so that’s a strength, I suppose. I’m pretty laid back, also, but committed to things for the most part. But I can also be stubborn occasionally, and that’s definitely a problem.

I: What did it feel like to be nominated for and then win a Tony for your part in Jekyll and Hyde?

W: Which time? Hah, I kid. This was my second win, and it was a million times more satisfactory than the first because I put so much work into that role. It’s such a complex one, and to be recognized for doing a good job on it meant a lot.

I: If you had to pick your dream production to work on, what would it be?

W: Probably one that’s not in existence yet. I mean, I’ve been in all the big ones - Phantom, Fiddler, Wicked, Mamma Mia, and now Sound of Music… So yeah, something new would be great. I haven’t been in one of those in a while.

I: Now let’s get to the juicy stuff. If you were to be involved in a scandal, what would it be?

W: I got a divorce? I don’t know. I mean, if we were in the fifteen hundreds that would be a scandal.

I: Well I think that’s enough for today. It was great getting to sit down with you and I wish you luck in all of your work.

W: You know it’s always a pleasure.
