Tony came to Stephen’s door early one morning. Earlier than Tony Stark is normally awake.
When he opened the door to the Sanctum Stephen was just walking down the stairs in a dark blue untied silk robe and silk pajama pants. His hair was a mess and he looked like he had just climbed out of bed.
Tony looked at him for a moment before starting to second-guess himself, and then he forced the words out.
“You free tonight?”
It almost sounded like a demand and Stephen just chuckled in a sleepy tone that had Tony wanting to hear that sound more often.
“Depends on why you’re asking?”
Stephen asked as he looked at Tony once he was fully down the stairs. Tony again just stared for a moment.
“Oh yeah, well see I have dinner plans tonight but no one to go with. So I was wondering if you’d join me?”
He asked quickly, just blurting it out before he retreated back into his workshop.
Stephen just yawned a bit.
“Sure. We can go. Just tell me what time alright?”
Tony nodded quickly.
“Yeah. Six pm. I’ll be here to get you at five thirty.”
With that, Tony left quickly and Stephen just smirked. He caught the pink tint to Tony’s cheeks and knowing he’d flustered the man was a pretty big ego boost.
By the time five pm even came close Tony had gone through everything. The weather, drive time, meal and drink choices, busy times, and so on. He was very eager to hopefully leave a good impression on Stephen for their first date. Wait was this a date? Or an outing? Or something else? He realized he hadn’t even actually told Stephen it was a date!
By five twenty-five pm, Tony was at the Sanctum in one of his fancy white 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus. Stephen came outside in a red turtleneck and a dark blue jacket. He looked comfortable. Tony wore a brown turtle neck and a darker brown jacket.
He watched as Stephen got into the car and put his seatbelt on.
Tony smiled a bit and looked at him.
“Hang on tight doc.”
He drove off, though not as fast as Stephen was expecting, and honestly he was very glad for it.
The ride was kind of awkward on Tony’s end as Stephen mostly stared out the window.
“It’s going to rain.”
Stephen pointed out and Tony just nodded.
“Yeah. But don’t worry I got an umbrella.”
He promised as he pulled into a little Chinese-style restaurant. Or was it Japanese? Tony forgot. He was too hyper-focused on everything else.
The date itself was casual and honestly rather nice.
Small talk, friendly banter, and some jabs here and there bounced between both men.
Tony however slipped up.
“You know, this has to be one of the best date I think I’ve ever been on.”
Stephen looked at him for a moment, and Tony suddenly realized what he had said.
Stephen looked away hiding the slight look of slight discomfort. Secretly maybe he was a bit jealous. Okay, it wasn’t a secret but who cared? And Tony instantly realized he’d screwed up. Yeah, it wasn’t a very good idea to bring up past lovers during a first date that his partner didn’t even know was a date.
Good job Tony.
