Austin Reggae Fest 2017
Top 5 Tips for a Stress-Free Marley Fest
We had a blast at this year’s Austin Reggae Festival (“Marley Fest”), but there were a lot of things that we didn’t know on the way in. These 5 tips can spell the difference between relaxing the day away and walking around for hours looking for psychedelics. Learn from our experience as you get ready for next year’s Austin Reggae Festival!
1. Don’t be afraid of the cops The cops working the Austin Reggae Fest know what’s up, and they are not there to harsh your good time. If you see them getting up from their post, don’t bother stashing your blunt or pipe. The only thing the authorities seem to be concerned with is illegal transactions taking place on park grounds… One girl selling snacks (yes, regular snacks from the store) told us that she had already been kicked out twice. When taking part in any transaction with a festival-goer, oblige them if they want to conduct business away from prying eyes. 2. Don’t be afraid to ask if you’re looking! There is a cornucopia of mind-altering substances that fit the occasion, and many are available on park grounds if you know where to find them. Simply keeping your eyes open will not do. You’ve got to keep an ear to the ground, which in this case means soliciting our fellow Hippie for info. People will look at you like they don’t know what you’re talking about, but don’t get discouraged. Just keep an eye out for friendlies and don’t be afraid to approach. 3. Arrive early if you want to score Sometimes persistence isn’t enough when time is against you. If you’re hoping to pick up weed treats or shrooms at the festival, your best bet is to arrive early. Before the sun has set, a lot of the amateur vendors have sold out for the day. There’s always a chance that someone will arrive late with a full stock, but I would not count on it. 4. Don’t be afraid to take your own bud and pipe! For most first-timers to the Festival, the main concern is what kind of security will be at the gate and whether bringing in weed and a pipe is a good idea. I can personally tell you that it’s nothing to worry about. Bring your favorite piece and your dankest herb. There will inevitably be someone selling good bud during the day, but again, don’t rely on it. I’d say all this applies to shrooms as well, though you may want to tuck those in a backpack. As long as you’re not bringing in alcohol, you’ll be fine. 5. Take a blanket if you want to sit! You should know beforehand that there are few actual places to sit and rest. If you arrive late in the day, the ground will be sprawling with early birds who already staked their claim to spots with blankets and folding chairs. There are always a few spots in far-flung places, but much of the ground is dirt and rocks, with only a few stone ledges. Trust me, take a blanket, towels, a sheet, anything. You are going to want to sit eventually. If all else fails or if you’re flying solo, you’d better make some friends and cozy up to them! Maybe you’ll even get lucky and they’ll pass the Dutchie!
I’d definitely say these are the top 5 things I learned after our first time at Marley Fest. It’s already been announced that next year’s Austin Reggae Festival starts on April 20th, so I know I’ll see all my Texans there, blowing thick clouds. Say hi if you see me! I’d love to meet you. Oh, and re-blog if you learned something new! Peace!
Yep
I disappear sometimes. It's nothing personal. I just like to take some time to reconnect with myself.
