Welcome to my blog
To be honest, I haven’t been this excited since my Junior High School burned down and my alibi held up.
Over the years people have said nice things about my writing such as, “when you write I hardly notice that you’re ugly” or “you have an, uh, unusual sense of humor.” Sometimes they are especially kind and say something like, “oh my, that was precious.”
A few days ago I told a friend of mine, Mike, that I was starting a blog. He asked me a legitimate question, “what is your blog going to be about?” That is something that I might want to consider. I told my friend Mike he could blog about fishing because he is an expert at it. Being an expert or authority on something is a good start to a blog. Being better or best at something might also qualify someone to blog.
Frankly, if those are the only qualifications for blogging then I am not qualified. But, on the other hand if an average guy, whose failures probably outnumber his successes, can believe that the written word still has value, then maybe something can come of this. In the words of Martin Luther, “If you want to change the world, pick up your pen and write.”
When I write I write with the reader in mind. I ask myself if this something I would like to read. If no one wants to read it what good is it? If it is not understandable what good is it? Or, for that matter, if it is stupid what good is it?
The introvert part of me means I am not enamored with the sound of my own voice and therefore tend to be concise and not ramble on and on. You will know quickly where I am going on a subject.
This blog will be about Life, as I seen it, you might say. You can fully expect me to talk about whatever I feel like talking about. Faith but not religion, the journey more than the destination, failings which have preceded successes, nature and good food are all things I might tackle. Oh, by the way, you can expect all of it to be infused with that unusual sense of humor which has become my trademark. What I won’t mention much is politics. It is not that I lack an opinion on the subject. Opinions are like noses – everybody has one. My opinion on politics in general and politicians in particular, is that our current system is dysfunctional. I will probably talk about that some time but not go to the extreme right or left.
So, here we go on our maiden voyage. I suspect there will be a few bumps along the way. The format of the blog will change; I am sure, as it goes along. On sensitive subjects I may change the names to protect the innocent and maybe keep some offended individual from showing up on my doorstep wielding a shotgun. New blogs will appear in due time. Sometimes good writing flows out of me almost effortlessly and I stare at my hands, like a 1960’s hippie saying, “Like wow man.” But in most cases my writing is like giving birth to a barb wire fence. Hopefully, that will change as I write more. Welcome aboard. If you have read to this point you may stick with me. Thanks, I need the support.
