The shop bell rings...

"Of course-of course, whose word is strongest? A lowly undertaker or the queen’s man?" His draped hands came together and rested palm to palm as he rocked on his heels a bit.

"Involved?" He cackled like a crow as he swayed with agitation. "As if to assume I’m accessory and not a humble man with history that only wished to assist his fellow Englishman. Gufu~ yes…There is no liar here. Just a humble man doing humble work. Who comes and who goes is not secrecy, my dear footman, but…client confidentiality be what it may…Geuhe~ So sorry, gent."

The rocking stopped but his stature remained bent, as if a weight bowed him down. Through his awkward posture he held his sinister snear.

He butler felt as if he was being directly challenged, a gloved hand twitching. The thought of drawing his sword and demanding what he wanted to know definitely crossed his mind-- but there was something more. Something holding him back, he couldn't explain it. He felt that despite the meek stature of the man before him, he would be outmatched. It was almost primal, the way he forced his hand back to his side, away from his weapon.

He looked down on the shorter male, icy hues narrowing slightly. Phipps was definitely a man who could control himself, but even he was capable of irritation, the emotion clear in his icy sharp eyes. It was a rare display, but not overly ostentatious in it's presentation, subtle as any other emotion he was pushed to express.

"As an Undertaker, I'm sure lying is quite a normal thing for you. I'm not an idiot though." Rigid, but ready to take action if need be. He didn't need to warn the other with words that he might be pushed to use force, it was quite obvious in his form, body language and subtle changes in his expression speaking loud enough.

His too white, square teeth ground tight as his grin grew feral at the man’s bold self-insertion.

"Ooo~? Is that so~? You come on her highness’s behalf? Tis so much like her majesty to have her plump hands in something so undeserved."

Beneath the cloak of his cassock, bony hands curled and unfurled like eager talons. He let a long stillness stand between them for a few ticks of the clock then spoke again.

"You may tell her majesty that, officially so, there is no such service here."

His animal grin remained wide.

Phipps did not falter, during the uneasy silence. His icy hues stayed locked on the fringe masking the others. He'd done his investigating, and if he was correct, this Undertaker was not only involved with the Phantomhive Heir, but with the late Earl Phantomhive as well. He was quick to assert so.

"I have strong reason to doubt you. You were involved with his predecessor as well, weren't you?" His voice stayed calm, cool, he was level headed and far-thinking ahead. That was likely why he had been sent rather than his partner, Earl Grey. "It would be unwise to lie to Her Majesty."

Charles Phipps? What a regal name, even for a servant, she thought while he introduced himself.

When he seemed to be readying to leave, Mey Rin heard the strangest noise. It was high-pitched and short, and it appeared to be coming from…him?

"It wouldn’t be any trouble at all, Mr. Phipps!" she exclaimed, smiling brightly before she took a few steps back, motioning for him to enter the mansion. "Please follow me." She turned around, leading him into the lounge room, where the young Earl often had his guests wait. "If you excuse me, I can bring you your bread. Would you like anything else? Tea, perhaps?"

She wanted to leave a good impression with a servant of Her Majesty. And a Phantomhive maid needed to provide the best service possible!

Phipps had to clear his throat, feeling silly. He shouldn't have brought the chick everywhere with him, but he did and would continue to do so. Keeping the thing with him in Buckingham Palace was risky enough, but to leave it alone in his room peeping and cheeping about? It would be found and likely thrown outside. At her offer, he offered a small nod.

"It would be very much appreciated Ms Rin. The service at the Phantomhive manor is far too wonderful for a mere servant such as myself as usual." A hand pressed to his chest as he bowed slightly yet agian. "Thank you."

As she took the note, she noticed the parchment as something elegant and beautiful; most certainly that as belonging to the Queen. She secured the envelope in the pocket of her apron with plans to keep watch over it while her master was away. “It will be done, Sir,” she said with a nod. This was something she knew she couldn’t and wouldn’t mess up.

"O-Oh, my name is Mey Rin, Sir," she replied, ducking her head while there was a slight blush added to her cheeks. "It is a pleasure and an honor to meet someone who serves Her Majesty."

"The pleasure is all mine, Ms Rin." He only bowed his head this time, having given enough formal bows for the day. "I'm Charles Phipps, in case I hadn't introduced myself to you before, if so, I apologize." Phipps stood to bid her a goodbye, before a quiet peep sounded from his outer coat pocket, immediately earning his full attention.

Charles Peeps was in his pocket, clearly unhappy and hungry. Icy hues turned to the red-haired maid, his expression almost a bit sheepish if it wasn't behind a mask of constant indifference. "I feel almost guilty for asking.. but would it be too much trouble to ask for a piece of bread?"

Normally, he would never have asked something so 'bold', but Charles Peeps was hungry. Charles Peeps held a lot of sway with the stoic man, even if he wouldn't admit it.

"That is right…he is out for the afternoon. But I can certainly inform him of your stopping by, Sir," she replied with a bow of her head. Even though they were both servants, in her eyes, he was higher in the ranks due to who he served.

And so, she would treat him as royalty as well.

"A letter?" she asked, blinking before adjusting her glasses. "Of course. I can make sure he gets it as soon as he returns." Thankfully it was a piece of paper and not something breakable.

"I would greatly appreciate that." A small nod, before a gloved hand slipped into his coat. Searching for a moment, he soon retrieved a pristine envelope, complete with the Royal seal. "Please be sure that it is delivered to him as soon as he returns. It is important that he reads it as soon as possible."

The tall man offered the maid another low bow. "May I inquire your name, that I might properly thank you?" All manners and calm state of mind, learned not only from society, but from what was expected of him. He would represent Her Majesty as flawlessly as he was able.

“..was there something in particular that called you to my shop? I’d like to take care of business with you as quickly as possible.”

Naturally, the mannerisms were perceived as hostile, though it may have just been the natural instinct of defensiveness a human gained in the presence of a Reaper. Icy hues narrow before he straightens out.

"I've been sent to provide a small investigation as to exactly what sort of involvement you've had with Earl Phantomhive, by Her Majesty's orders."
