I’ve decided to make this blog an indie mumu with my girl Kaycee here, my bby Grant, and possibly some other muses to be added. Just passing that on for anyone who may be confused, especially since the url may change. I would love to write with anyone! I’ll be putting up open starters and calls at some point, along with their muse info. This is just a little fyi.

It had been a long day on campus, and Grant felt like his brain was a little fried. He had been there from the first class to the last, only having a little time between to grab lunch. Perhaps he’d been spoiled by the days that he mostly taught mornings or evenings, but it was the one day a week that he was always absolutely exhausted. Not that he was really one to complain; he did enjoy his job for the most part. Except for the occasional student that knew how to get under his skin. Still, when eight o’clock struck, Grant silently praised freedom. It didn’t help that as the holidays were nearing he missed his family. He missed Tennessee. The farm. At least though in some ways, Montana was similar. Not by the familiar faces, but the landscape.

He had made a few friends here — mostly colleagues, in the time he’d moved to Montana, but knew it wouldn’t ever be the same as home. Until his ex moved away though, there wasn’t much desire to go back. Grant considered himself a fairly forgiving person, but cheating was one of the few exceptions. The bar was a nice reprieve on the way home; he’d heard about it from some of his peers, but it was his first time to give it a try. The place wasn’t too crowded, thankfully, and Grant plopped down on one of the empty stools with a sigh. Ordering an old fashioned and shooting the bartender a small smile, he then twisted around to survey the bar when his eyes landed on a familiar face. He recognized Jameson across the way instantly. A sight for sore eyes, she was damn hard to forget. Even if she was just his divorce lawyer. Grant lifted his hand to give her a wave of acknowledgement and a soft smile, doubting she wanted to kill her mood by chatting with him.

Independence was nothing Kaycee had been short of. While she thrived on being around friends and family, doing her own thing was never a problem. That was probably one of the reasons she took to coding so well. It was a job she loved and didn’t need anyone else for. In fact, usually they were a distraction. Moving to an entirely new state though, was a bit daunting. She had done so before, for college, and made a new slew of friends and companions. Those were people she couldn’t picture her life without. Which was why it felt so difficult to leave them all. After being left at the altar though, she was a bit embarrassed to set foot in Georgia again. Or even to tread back home to Roswell. So, a fresh start it was. Luckily in her line of work it was easy to do freelance or remote.

The latter made it much easier to settle into her new place; she would take breaks to unpack every now and then. Her pets had already grown accustomed to a new place — shockingly, even the cats. After working all morning, Kaycee was in need of some fresh air, and so were her dogs. One of the nice things about Montana, she had to admit, was that there was more freedom to roam. That didn’t mean she wouldn’t stay outside and watch the pups, but at least they could run around a little more. Dino had been mostly behaving; he seemed to enjoy sniffing the flowers and new grass. Dodger, however had another idea, and took off toward her neighbor’s yard. “Dodger! No! Get back here!” Kaycee called, sprinting toward the mutt before he could cause any trouble. At that, she and the dog nearly collided with a man, which immediately had Kaycee apologizing. “I’m so sorry! He’s not usually like this, but he isn’t used to so much land and I’m... not making the best first impression. Are I?” She rambled, offering an apologetic smile.
