Y’know that little notch on the end of your cleaning rod?

There’s a reason that’s there. It’s to check the placement of your head crown/cork assembly. If your flute is consistently playing out of tune/airy regardless of your posture/embouchure/head joint placement, your cork assembly might be out of place.

To check, insert the notched end of your cleaning rod as far as it will do into the head joint of your flute. Don’t push it against the head cork plate.

The notch should be in the exact middle of the embouchure hole.

If the notch is too far down, tighten the head crown slightly to pull the cork assembly upwards until the notch is in the middle.

If it’s too far up, loosen the head crown until the notch is in the middle.

Each full twist of the head crown will move the cork assembly up or down 1 millimeter.

I realized I never posted about the response I got after sending my director that email... even tho it’s been like a month. I asked him why I didn’t get drum major, how I could have improved my leadership skills, and mentioned I wanna major in music in college.

A summary basically:

Why he chose another girl for drum major instead of me: her conducting was better (to be fair, I could’ve practiced it more)

Why I wasn’t chosen for other leadership: he didn’t think I was interested since I didn’t apply for other leadership roles (also my fault- since I didn’t realize I could apply for multiple roles :/

He was excited that I wanted to major in music in college tho

Ahhh I am a bit embarrassed tho that some of this could’ve been different if I just idk....aghhhhh. It just kinda sucks cuz I’m going to be a senior next year and have no leadership roles...I’ve been trying to accept it but it’s just difficult. I just feel like I’ve never been good enough. I also feel like I lowkey blames my director for a lot of stuff when it turns out it was mostly my doing. Agh I just idk what to say or think, like sometimes this whole ordeal pops into my head and I just get sad

Out of all the juniors who auditioned for leadership roles, I was the only one who didn’t get selected. This is a repeating occurrence, and I was super fed up with it and my mom got me all riled up after calling it to my attention. So I emailed my BD about how I felt (a super carefully worded, thoughtful email). So we shall see. I just feel hella unrecognized and have felt like that since freshman year and it hurts bad.

Another band story I’ve probably told before but whatever:

One time at a wind ensemble competition our school was hosting and competing in this kid plugged in his phone while we were waiting for our call time and all the lights went off in the room we were in and turns out the entire school lost power including on stage during another bands performance but we found out later it was cuz the schools generator shut off but I wanna believe it def had something to do with This one kid plugging his phone in
