rewatching season 1 and both times mike tries to introduce el to his hobbies she VISIBLY loses interest and instead goes to look at a woman... he tells her about his tv and she turns away to go look at a picture of nancy. he tells her about yoda/his toys and she turns away to go look at his science fair trophy which is a statue of a woman. she's left alone in the wheeler house and she explores nancy's room. she never gaf about his hobbies she gaf about womanhood and missing out on the experience of growing up as a girl

hahahaha! okay but it's not funny at all. what do you mean mike is going to spend the rest of his life in hawkins. do you think when he was watching will drive away to california part of him couldn't help but wait for the car to come right back because deep down he doesn't believe it's actually possible to escape? do you think when he was sitting on that plane during spring break waiting for it to take off deep down he didn't think it would be able to get off the ground? and now he's going to be stuck there forever. he's going to wear his hair combed back and he's going to wear his dad's glasses and his dad's sweaters and he's never going to let himself grow his hair out again and he's never going to go to college and get an eyebrow piercing and he's never going to write the only story that matters and he's never going to kiss will and he's never going to tell will that he loves him and he's never going to live the life he deserves. i'm going to throw up i'm sick i'm ill. i'm not glad that will ends up happy and mike ends up miserable i'm fucking devastated

if byler doesn't happen in the finale mike wheeler is still gay. he is still repressed and hurting and pushing it down. he will continue to be cruel to himself and stop himself from loving will byers until the day he dies if he can. he will never be truly happy if he gets everything he wants except the only thing that matters. if byler doesn't happen he will never get to be free and himself with the love of his life by his side.

and i think that's the most heartbreaking thing i can possibly imagine for him
