PRETTY IN PINK

I’m a total sucker for an 80’s teen romantic comedy. A juicy film about love, and 80’s social cliques, that’s infused with an order of fashion and a kick ass soundtrack!  It leaves me satisfied like no other.I have always wanted to do a blog with modern take on this John Hughes classic. The one thing that has always bothered me about the film is the ending. In my perfect world Andie would have ended up with Duckie, they would have got married, and had millions of babies. I’m a huge sucker for the Duckman. He is totally my perfect guy. Kind of like my husband who reminds me consistently of Duckie.

I’m so stoked to have been able to get my real life Duckman to agree to help me out with this post. Duckie always had amazing style. Always marching to the beat of his own dumb and styling thrift styles. This is the path I took when styling up my husband. Everything he is wearing is second hand with the exception of the hat and sunglasses. The hat is from Spencer’s about 5 years ago and the glasses from Coastal. The boots are amazing vintage Doc Martins and were picked up from a Facebook clothing group called Fattoo Accessora. Everything else was picked up at Value Village or the Salvation Army. I feel the whole outfit has a 1980’s vibe but a 2013 fit. I finished off off my husbands look with a few accessories. My favorite detail of this look is the heart shaped Andie pin I made for his jacket.

I have to admit I was a little bit afraid of my look. I never ever wear pink let alone pink covered in unicorns and cupcakes. I didn’t always have a issue with pink, back in 2003 I went through a phase where I colored my hair hot pink and picked up the nick name “Jem”. This totally makes me giggle today because I’m so not like Jem and more like the Misfits

I won this dress a few months ago in a really amazing contest on Facebook. The dress is Hell Bunny (Size 4X) and it comes from Glamour Kitten. Glamour Kitten has lots of super gnarly Hell Bunny dresses. Not everything comes in plus size so shoot her a message if you are looking for a certain style. They are located in the UK. If you’re looking for a retailer a little closer to home you can check out Sweet Echo. This is where I got the white Hell Bunny petticoat from that I’m wearing under the dress. Sweet Echo sells a large amount of plus sized Hell Bunny dresses and is located in Canada.

The white petticoat from Hell Bunny is in size L/XL. I’m a size 26 waist and this item fits me. It’s tight, but I just wear it a little higher on my waist. I find this works fine because it’s long. It’s really designed for these longer vintage style dresses so keep that in mind when ordering.This petticoat comes in lots of colors so if you’re looking for something specific shoot a message to Michelle the owner of Sweet Echo.

Back to the unicorns and cupcakes. While this style is not my norm, there is no disputing how fun and quirky it is. I’m a sucker for anything with skulls on it. This dress comes in black as well, which is nice for those who can’t do pink. I totally love my Hell Bunny dresses. I think I have seven or eight of them now and I know this year I will be buying more. I’m totally excited for some upcoming designs from their new team member Sarah Cake. To finish off my Pretty in Pink style I added some black items and some kitschy jewelry. I added the black because I really wanted the pink to pop. I tried on purple and pink cardigans with this look, but they really didn’t seem to be working. 

I think the black shrug, belt and boots tie everything together nicely. It had to be boots because boots with a dress is so very, very, 1980s.

Last I would like to discuss my jewelry. I fear I’m becoming predictable, but I always have a strong vision in my mind and I really can’t purchase the items I imagine. Jewelry is made by myself and you can find my stuff at Everyday is like Halloween. I found an image of the adorable unicorns on my dress and made double brooches for my cardigan. I wrapped up the whole look with a  Pretty in Pink tribute pendant necklace. This is my favorite part about my whole look.

I accidentally made an egg salad

I interrupt this previously dead tumblr to tell you about this egg salad.  I had a big lunch so I got home and thought to myself "I won't have a big dinner, maybe just a snack" I had a bag of chips, not the healthiest thing but w/e its food. Well I actually don't like plain chips on their own, so i remembered "oh yeah, my mom brought me a random jar of Mayonnaise" I also hate mayonnaise, but w/e it's food. I remember I have some bell pepper that's going to go bad, so I mince it up and put it in a bowl with some mayo, garlic and onion. Then I add some salt, but I forgot that I fixed my salt contain to pour out quickly because I needed an entire cup of salt for a cosplay dye project.  I’ve now poured entirely too mush salt into what should be a small snack portion of chip dip.  I add some mustard, tomato and some more Mayo to combat the salt.  It tastes ok now, but it still needs something else, and I think, “well I got this hard boiled egg cooker thing that hard boils eggs in 6 minutes for Christmas that I have still never tried”  Turns out the thing really works and after 6 minutes I was pealing and chopping up a couple eggs to add to my “dip” which is now unmistakably a delicious egg salad.  I realize that my small snack turning into into an entire filling/high caloric meal is a metaphor for how much control I have over my own life currently and how even when things seem to be by my own hands it still escalates in ways I didn’t expect it to.  but w/e, it’s food.
