This might be a bit of a crazy theory, but I think the reason that rarijack and twidash (but especially rarijack) is more popular that appledash in the mlp fandom is rooted in homophobia, because people can’t handle that 2 mascs are in a relationship because that seems “too gay”, so instead they opt for a ship with a fem and a masc, which most closely resembles a traditional straight relationship.

(also I realize that appledash is not technically canon but come on man, did you watch the show? This argument is also for the main mlp timeline only, bc rarijack is def canon in equestria girls)
