History of Disney- It All Started With a Mouse
We have heard this saying for ages if you are a Disney fan. It is probably the most iconic symbol for the Disney franchise. Mickey Mouse has enchanted millions upon millions of individual through the years when he first appeared in 1928. With his red shorts, white gloves, and his clown-like yellow shoes, he is instantly recognized by many.
His first debut was in the 1928 short film, Steamboat Willie. This film made history for Disney as well, since it was one of the first sound cartoons created. Since then, Mickey has been featured in over 130 films to date. He has since expanded his empire to comics, television series, and a prominent figure within the parks. He even has his own clothing line as well!
You want to talk about luck. Who would have thought a mouse (a creature a lot of the world despises) would end up being the first cartoon to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1978)? Who would have thought a mouse with two large ears would be the face of a multibillion-dollar industry? Walt did, and he made him into our friend.
Through the years, Mickey has gained many friends to help him with his silly adventures. These friends make up the Fab 5 group: Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto. Daisy is not seen as part of the Fab 5, though she is on most of the merchandise. We had the pleasure of meeting Pete, the big evil nemesis of the gang. As the popularity grew for the Fab 5, we have added beloved characters such as Chip and Dale, Clarabelle, and Donald’s nephews: Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
Because Mickey is so popular, Disney has decided to give him his first ride. Last year, Disney’s Great Movie Ride was shut down in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They are currently turning the iconic ride into a state of the art ride, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (opening in 2019). This new ride features new technology known as 2 ½ D, and the best part is there are no glasses required. Though much has not been revealed on the ride as of right now; we do know it will be based on the newest series for Mickey and the gang. The fun, whimsical world of Mickey Mouse Cartoon Short will come to life in this new attraction.
Mickey Mouse should also be reprising his role in Kingdom Hearts, which will hopefully be coming out this summer. Fingers crossed because we have all been waiting since 2006 for this third game to come out. (Yes, I am not counting the NDS games. They are good, but not as good).
I know I am excited to see where they will continue to take Mickey in the future and how they will continue to develop him as the years come. We love you Mickey Mouse!
