     It was fortunate that James Hook had kept up his fencing and sharpshooting abilities as exercise and hobbies. It was additionally fortunate that he remembered the creatures known as Heartless, recognized them when he departed from his boat to investigate the sounds of terror in the middle of the night. They were unpleasant creatures, empty souls taking on husks of twisted forms. And worst yet, they never appeared alone. Perhaps a form of loneliness was responsible for their numbers, or perhaps they merely knew they were stronger. Regardless, together they fell by his blade and claw.

     The dissipation on Heartless allowed him a reprieve to rest from combat, and he never saw the Headless Horseman. Despite his expanded lifespan, Hook was still a mere human man, he lacked magic of his own (at least, to his knowledge, who knows how Neverland magic worked and whether or not it still clung to him). The break was welcomed.

     And when Titans appeared on the scene, that was quite enough. A normal man had nothing as his disposal to fight them, he did not even possess a flying ship with canons as he did before becoming an inhabitant of New Mythos. Hook made sure to remain out of their paths.

     It was not until all had been quiet for several hours that he realized the assistance he had provided during the early hours of morning to a number of individuals, a gesture normally reserved only for those he knew well and valued. Living in peace had apparently had side effects, reminded him of centuries past, before he turned to piracy, when he was only a young English gentleman. It was something to ponder as he shed his sweaty attire and took a hot shower to clean and assess his wounds.

     It was well-past dawn when he returned to bed, bandaged and sore, but greeted by the company of a gray feline, who curled up beside him.

Her attention was drawn to the man as he spoke, she gave the cat a few more scratches under his chin before pulling her hand away. “In some way I guess it would be a blend of both options. I am looking for things but at the same time there is no specific object I wish to find.”  Her eyes squinted in thought for a moment. “Though I wonder if you could recall coming across anything with a sun emblem on it?”

     The retired pirate listened with interest, before tapping his jaw with his polished hook. “A sun emblem? Hm... I believe I have two- no, three objects with suns in them or inspiring their design. They may be found in the same area as items related to stars, clouds, and other sky-related things.” 

     Standing aside, he gave a sweep of an arm, “Right this way, m’lady,” before crossing one of the paths of red carpet and entering another room. The most obvious of the three previously mentioned objects was a chair with a sun and it’s rays elegantly carved across the back. The other two rested in its seat.

From first glance Romy might not appear to be the sentimental type. That was far from the truth. Being that her father had been taken from her at such a young age, she had to have a bit of sentiment. Perhaps that’s also why it was so urgent for her to find someone that she had known before the barrier had been built. That was definitely why she was there today, maybe not to find people but to find objects that had been lost long ago. 

As she entered the shop she heard the mewing of a cat who looked at her with sleepy eyes and extended a starfish paw out to her. Having a fondness for cats she reached out to scratch the cat under his chin. She would own one herself but she didn’t think her rats would much appreciate a feline companion.

     The feline purred from the attention, but he could not be bothered to get up. He did not care to, thus he did not. Such was how he handled the majority of his life. It was an easy path to follow when one did not have the complexities of humans and magic and gods to worry about.

     Footsteps echoed from above, before reaching a stairway and traveling downward. A tall man soon stood nearby to greet her, clad in a waist coat and trousers of an older age (but less extravagant than what he once wore as a captain), “Good day, madam. Do you seek anything in particular, or do you simply wish to browse undisturbed?” He was not the type to harass his customers if they did not desire assistance.

The smell of old wood and leather and whatever else made up the collection of antiques greeted Padraic as he ducked into the shop. His hard leather shoes still clunked heavily against the scarlet carpet despite how plush it was, but it managed to mask the sound of his entrance as he closed the door slowly behind him. Feeling a set of eyes on him, the older man gazed around the shop until he spotted the grey cat on the windowsill and gave a soft clicking noise as he reached over to it. One might think a man who once was a rodent would have an aversion to cats, but he was rather fond of them. Felicia had, after all, been his most loyal and fearsome sidekick during those dark times.

He stroked the cat atop his head and between the ears, smirking when he could hear it purr in response. “Well that’s one of you, so far. Now where is the old sod that runs this place?” He asked under his breath before turning to face the shop once more. “Is this how you treat your paying customers, James? Should I take my business elsewhere?” Padraic called out, his grin widening as he ceased his petting and moved deeper into the shop.

     Naturally, Sir Drake recognized the acquaintance of his person, and rather than remaining entirely lazy, he raised his head to press into Padraic’s hand. The feline’s purr was strong enough to send vibrations throughout his form, from his toes to the tip of his nose, and he continued to purr after the man moved away.

     Padraic’s voice gained the attention of the store owner quickly enough, and Hook appeared from another room a few moments later, eyebrows arched. “Despite the contentment a cat may find in it, I would become bored if I constantly remained beside the front door. Objects do not file, clean or dust themselves, m’friend,” James replied once visible. 

     “Now, what might you be looking to find?” After brief consideration, his iron claw rested on his chest. “Or, could it be you wished to visit an old salt?”

As he bowed to her she couldn’t help but put one of her feet behind the other and bend her knees in a curtsy. “Lady Lottie..” She parroted with a giggle. “I like it!” 

Her eyes widened when he mentioned where he had called home and her eyes darted down to his hook. “OH, I know who you are!” She exclaimed with delight. “Of course, I shoulda figured it out sooner. I feel so silly now.” Her cheeks turned a light shade of pink with….she wouldn’t call it  embarrassment, but it was something similar to that.  “Well, normally I say the best place to start is the top floor, that way you can work your way down. Neverland is on the top floor, along with a couple other stories..anyone who has a reference to Big Ben is there since the face is on the front of the museum.” She glanced around briefly “It is a bit slow, I could give ya a tour if you’d like.”

     He noted her approval of the manner of address, filing it away so he would remember to use it again. And as she recognized him, his chest pridefully swelled from learning his reputation remained among more than those from his own world. Oh yes, he had decided- Lottie was one of those rare, cheerful individuals he wouldn’t mind the company of.

     “A logical association for organization,” Hook observed once she had explained it. “However, I would cordially accept a tour,” he continued, before offering his right arm (regardless of the fact that he was the one who would be escorted).

     Rising from the street corner stood a multi-story (was it two, or three levels, if it had an attic... difficult to tell from outside) structure, formed of wooden posts and a design resembling an old English home. A sign protruded from one of the posts beside the front door. When a breeze passed, the metal would swing, creaking quietly. It read, in an elegant, swirling font: Second Star Antiques. 

     Inside, artificial light created by lamps and strings of lights mingled with natural sunlight, allowing many of the store’s contents to be visible through its windows. The shop was well organized rather than cluttered, lined with a variety of objects and furnishings. Ceramics and glass rested on stands and tables, reflecting and bouncing light sources throughout the rooms. Everything from mirrors to paintings hung on the walls, and the floors were carpeted in a rich red hue.

     Behind a set of the glass panes, laying across the windowsill, was a cat. His eyes were closed, and his fur was the only dust-colored thing in sight. Along his collar, letters were engraved to form a name, although impossible to read while he was laying on whatever followed the word Sir. 

     His yellow eyes appeared when he heard footsteps on the wooden steps leading up to the store’s entrance.

A warm smile spreads across her face as he speaks of the removal of the barrier. She knows a lot of folks had been skeptical about the merger, but circumstances being what they were it sounded like it wasn’t really the choice.  The choice lied in how long they would prolong the inevitable and if they’d be warm and welcoming about the matter.  Lottie personally was very fond of the idea.  “I’m just happy it’s a place that everyone can enjoy if they choose too. I didn’t think we would get any donations when the barrier came down, but the amount of things we have received has been has made my heart as warm as cookies fresh from the oven!” She giggled and gave a scrunch of her nose.

“My name is Charlotte, but please call me Lottie.  It’s my pleasure to have you. May I ask what realm you used to call home? I could direct you to where you need to go, unless you wish to enjoy it as a whole.” 

     Lottie radiated cheerful and open-hearted, and her metaphor inspired mild amusement. Her deposition was rare to see on his side of the barrier. It was almost endearing, but of course, he is immune to such things.

     James’ tall figure bent into a low bow when she provided an introduction, dark locks shifting around his shoulders. “The pleasure is mine, Lady Lottie.” Once he had straightened, he continued, “I was born in England and have sailed many seas, yet spent the majority of my prolonged life in Neverland. However, I would prefer to browse other areas, as I already have extensive knowledge of my previous world.”

     In a poetic tone, the retired pirate added, “Perhaps you could recommend as to where I should begin?”
