The final form of David Kessler was originally intended to be bipedal, like the werewolves Rick Baker was previously designing on The Howling; however, John Landis was insistent that the final film's beast be 'a four-legged hound from hell'.

The inspiration for the Kessler Wolf's final design came from none other than Baker's pet Keeshond, Bosco. Keeshonds have a very shaggy mane of fur, something that was added to the werewolf around its furless face. The face itself would never be shown fully except for some brief frames, so Baker had a vicious expression sculpted for the face so that any shot would catch it.

Being a quadruped presented problems for Baker; he was anxious about not wanting to have it be 'two men in a suit' a la a pantomime horse. Baker remembered wheelbarrow races he had done as a kid, and thus decided the werewolf was to be a man on a wheeled board, wearing the main wolf suit. The suit's arms had the actors own inside them, but the back legs were puppeteered. Three heads were made, with a hero animatronic head able to do snarling expressions and two stunt heads for the attack sequences. All the heads were able to have their jaws open and close for the snapping.

ok sorry to double reblog BUT I just looked him up and he does these fantastic videos where he breaks down HOW he actually mimics the other artists’ styles. Like for ed Sheeran, he explains how he brings his voice forward in the mouth, while Adam Levine sings in the back of the mouth, stuff like that. It’s SO COOL, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone actually break down how to do this sort of thing, as a skill, instead of just treating it like a neat trick they just happen to be good at. https://www.tiktok.com/@justinjmooremusic

The singing with where the voices in your mouth is such a complex thing that I understood pretty intrinsically and it's why I succeeded in vocal studies as long as I did. How you hold your teeth and where to hold the sound is so important.

The Many Sounds of Wolves

Came across this video and wanted to post it to show that wolves can make all kinds of silly sounds. Not just barks or howls or growls. Their vocals can even sound similar to foxes or coyotes, especially when they're playing around.

The video game history foundation has just finished scanning every copy of the neopets magazine and added it to their archive. Super cool!

It might be a little silly, but Neopets Magazine is an important slice of a different part of gaming culture.

During its four-year run, Neopets Magazine covered the latest news and strategies for the influential 2000s-era web game. It also had a lot of articles about Neopets merchandise and trading cards. In fact, it’s mostly ads for Neopets products. Or long articles about Neopets lore. At best, it is mostly an off-topic magazine. So why did we focus on this magazine of our archive? Simple: it’s about the game’s audience. Neopets was, arguably, the defining girl game of the 2000s. An entire microgeneration of girls got their start in the world of digital entertainment by raising virtual pets and playing Flash games to get Neopoints. [...] Notably, many of the magazine’s articles are about creativity and customization. There’s shades in here of the gameplay styles that have become more popular in the last decade with the rise of cozy games and farming sims. My favorite quirk of Neopets Magazine is in the audience survey that came with some issues. In one survey question, they asked whether readers bought this magazine at a clothing store! That would have reached a completely different audience than we usually associate with game magazines. Can you imagine PC Gamer being sold at a Charlotte Russe? The point is that Neopets The Official Magazine represents a different slice of gaming culture, one that we know matters to researchers and to our extended community.
