turns on megaphone once again, antonia dreykov deserved better !!marvel caved to those fanboys because they’re cowards. not willing to actually flesh out a very complicated and nuanced character that would’ve gotten along so well with the other members, especially bob. and that also would’ve worked beautifully with the whole movie centering heavily on mental illness. y’all decided to cut a trauma/abuse victim’s story in the film because of ‘limited narrative real estate’ as you wanted to focus more on yelena and bob’s connection. mind you, i adore yelena and am not trying to minimize her pain but she’s more of a fan favorite and is the black widow of the new avengers so everyone can swallow her story better since it’s basically the same as natasha’s. you may as well have cast one of the many annoying dude bros that complained about taskmaster in black widow to shoot antonia cause that’s what it was at the end of the day. no one wants to deal with the more complicated and deeply complex victim/character that is not the favored one, has many layers to her trauma nor the easiest to look at. because she isn’t the fan favorite and it’s not worth investing time to flesh out a story that maybe just maybe a group of people can relate to and feel seen or empowered just like others are feeling about this film and its portrayal of depression. too complicated, i guess.
if people suddenly start praising the black widow film or saying how antonia and the other widows deserve more of their stories to be told etc etc. like how now looking back it’s an amazing film (newsflash, it always has been and will continue to be) blah blah blah — i will riot.
anyways, point of this post is that if marvel decides to ever bring back taskmaster again (meaning recast as male and closer to the comic version of the character) - i will officially lose my faith in marvel to have the balls to take a risk in telling stories that are more than just action and jokes with sprinkles of deep moments.
to quote frank, checks script “i’m not playing patty-cake with these fanboys.” if and when that day comes.
