John Witzig, from Golden Age: Surfing’s Revolutionary 1960s and 70s

What’s extraordinary about Witzig’s surf photos isn’t the moments when when his subjects are at play; those are your basic surf photos, mostly. Instead, it’s the ones like this, the ones that are at rest, when the calm of the surfer and the board match the calm of the surf. Witzig captures the tranquility of the in between.
