Looked at the accounting numbers off our At the Moment EP that HeadBridge put out last year and I legit didnât know If I wanted to laugh, cry or do both at the same darn time.
Unless something is done about the way revenue earned from music is distributed between the streaming service providers, the aggregators/digital distro and the Artist (wouldnât hold my breath), Iâm really not going to be bothered with putting up music on any of the local streaming Platforms. Ditto Ring back tunes.
When youâre indie, every single kobo matters. It whatâs goes back into making music, from paying for production and post production to promoting the music however way you can. In an industry where it literally cost millions to promote your music to even have a chance of going mainstream, you have to be smart about every decision you make. Every. Kobo. Matters.
These distros are a total rip off. I donât care what name they go by, the modus operandi is the same. Chop up the revenue so bad with ridiculous service fees and hidden charges that I really donât know how brothers under contractual terms with labels and management firms are surviving. Negroes add absolutely zero percent value to whatever content you put on their platforms and you still end up getting zilch from an already totally skewed payment structure from the Streaming companies, all partly owned by Telcos.
Itâs a numbers game, and right now the numbers donât add up. Not even remotely.
Plan is to put out a boatload of music this year, and itâs going directly to the fans via e-commerce sites or to going out for free.
