Choosing colors for a temperature throw / tempghan:

Most color charts for temperature throws include 8-10 colors. The first step to deciding the number best for you is to consider the normal temperature ranges for your area. I chose 9 for mine but can imagine zones where 10 would be needed or tropical areas that would be served with 8 or less.

The actual color choices are especially significant for a tempghan because weather patterns are unpredictable. In other words, the fabric will lack the aesthetics afforded by pattern and color placement. Below are some tips I noted for future attempts:

🍁 A swath of free-form patterned fabric (imagine a watercolor print) might serve as a guide for selecting ‘pattern-less’ colors.

☘ Tossing the skeins of colors in a basket might indicate how well they will look jumbled. (For example, I prefer the ordered-color index along the side of this tempghan to the overall body of the blanket.)

🍂 OK, so there’s no way to predict future weather. However, if daily temperatures are retrieved from an archive source like for this 1989 tempghan, the colors can be plotted to ensure they will work good together. If I had thought to do that ahead of time, I may have elected to use another color for 90+ because the splotches of dark orchid look kinda out-of-place.

Note: It is bizarre to see only 18 days ☉ of 90°F weather from 1989 compared to 90+ days ☉☉☉☉☉ of 90° in 2016!
