How To Control Mosquitoes In A Plastic Water Storage Tank?
Mosquitoes carry several life-threatening diseases like dengue and malaria. Recently, there is a huge rise in dengue and malaria cases in India. Mosquitoes mainly dwell in stagnant water and thus water tanks are their favorite place. It is better to take certain necessary steps while installing your plastic water storage tank to save it from becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Let us follow these useful measures to control mosquitoes before installing a commercial water tank.
Make sure that you have blocked all the potential points of entry and exits which can become a gateway for the mosquitoes to enter into your tank. When the tank is newly installed you do not have to worry about the corrosion or gaps occurring due to wear and tear. But in course of time, you need to address the above. If the spaces between the gaps are increasing day by day then mosquitoes can easily enter your tank and can lay eggs there. Don’t forget to check the lids as they can develop warp over time and mosquitoes can gain entry from there.
When a plastic water tank gets filled, the extra water oozes out from the tank. The water can develop small pools of water around the tank. Also, the tank might have leakages from where water can leak and can form a pool. Identify these problems and do the needful to prevent your tank from mosquitoes. If you have any gutter beside your tank clean them frequently so that they cannot become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
After taking all such measures, still, if you find mosquitoes are breeding inside your tank you can add one tablespoon of medicinal paraffin or domestic kerosene. You can use olive oil to create a layer on the surface of the water. This can be very much effective to keep mosquitoes away from your tank. Contact pest control who can look into the matter and can suggest a remedy.
These are some of the most effective ways to prevent your plastic water storage tank from becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Thus, regular inspection and maintenance of a water tank (whether commercial or domestic) is crucial to stay healthy as most diseases are water-borne including dengue and malaria.
