"What does now sound like? How does the past interfere in defining today's sound? Would I divide sound in environments, using a different languages for each of them? I followed John Cage's idea about contemporary sound formed on his composition 4'33'' where he stated that removing his or any other composer's ego from the actual piece would be the most contemporary of compositions, created by mere sounds. I believe that in the end it's all about sculpture. Sound is a very concrete way to occupy space, everything(one) will reveal something about its nature if/when percussed, bowed, plucked, strummed and so on. Here is where my idea of sculpting sound and the very environment around it gets its shape. The main concept is creating an environment that changes its "nature" when interrupted. The interruption is given by any physical interaction within it so to create layers that will lead to a final focal point, different for any interactions. Any interaction will create a new "era" in the environment adding a new layer in that particular moment. To be more clear "eras" are new moments in the sound, just like adding a new instrument in a composition vertically; "layers" are complete developments of "eras". The final resolution will depend on how many interruptions we have, ergo the actual sound derives from the interruptions we create: mere sounds. If now is a moving concept there will not be a sound to it, a defined one, considering its continuos change in time. So what does motion sound like? How much our "now" differs from someone else's? I can state that my now can only sound similar to all the living things I am with in a particular moment in time: similar taking into consideration the perception of it for all of us, and perception can be influenced by many factors: position; constitution (I react to a certain vibration, vibrating myself); focus analysis (knowledge, experiences, social life); obstructions (not only given by position but also by objects in the way that will change the perception of the final sound); mind state; selective perception. Interruptions are then not only sounds themselves, but also a selective mixture of ourselves reflecting our environment."
