THIS LINK goes to a  wonderfully written look at such things as presumption of innocence, the culture of rape, judicial standards vs. court of public opinion regarding Dylan Farrow and Woody Allen. It did me such good reading this because it addressed and rejected all of the tired, flaccid arguments put forth by anyone who blindly defended possible rapists or pedophiles based solely on their fandom, adulation of the famous or the stature of a "great man" -- the culture of rape has created many opportunities to voice false arguments that do not fairly address the problems faced when an accusation of rape or pedophilia  - particularly from someone's childhood past aimed at someone famous - arises because of the knee-jerk defenses of the "great man" - yes, I am talking about the Daily Beast. But in this culture of rape, you have many sources to chose from, they literally surround us to where that kind of thinking becomes "fair" and believing that some poor woman who had been most likely traumatized by rape as a child is not only enduring the original assaults but attack on her character and called a liar, but no one to rises to her defense, this is a privilege that only the great man enjoys. I hope the time has come for accusers like Dylan Farrow to experience a different kind of reception by coming forward.

The Great Recession should have put the victim-blaming theory of poverty to rest. In the space of only a few months, millions of people entered the ranks of the officially poor—not only laid-off blue-collar workers, but also downsized tech workers, managers, lawyers, and other once-comfortable professionals. No one could accuse these “nouveau poor” Americans of having made bad choices or bad lifestyle decisions. They were educated, hardworking, and ambitious, and now they were also poor—applying for food stamps, showing up in shelters, lining up for entry-level jobs in retail. This would have been the moment for the pundits to finally admit the truth: Poverty is not a character failing or a lack of motivation. Poverty is a shortage of money.

The irony is that many of these "working poor families" voted themselves into oblivion. Much of it had racial overtones and their belief that they are the backbone of Murica and those "welfare queens" and "thugs" are ruining it. History laughs at you.

I cannot, as sad as it may sound, feel bad for their lot.
