@poly-want-a-cracked
So my hot take with all the poly stuff is that very very few people are as purely monogamous as they claim they are. Compulsory monogamy and monogamy brain are real bitches to work through, but I think there's benefit in examining that.
Truly no judgement but have a think to yourself, chances are there are at least a few scenarios where you'd be willing to stretch away from the top left of that spectrum. Threesomes, fwb, deep emotional bonds with people your life would be incomplete without.
Just have a think yeah?
I don't get the people who say they don't like poly people because some people use it as an excuse for cheating, because like.
then you don't hate POLY people, you hate cheating... and the fact that they used a bullshit excuse probably.
Like I can understand being not wanting to date poly people because of that, especially if it happened multiple times, but dear lord you do not need to hate poly people because some asshole cheated on you!!
And stuff like being cheated on by a poly person is literally the closest thing to an actual reason the rest is just bullshit.
"It seems like an excuse for cheating..." Okay but it's not. Yes, people use it that way, but that's not what poly is. All people in the relationship are consenting and aware. A poly relationship isn't 'sleeping around' or something because not every poly relationship is open (or however you say it) (I think), they are actually, literally, dating each other. It is being in a consenting relationship with multiple people who are aware and, in most/some situations, also dating others in the relationship.
And then there's just
"I don't get it..." Too bad, don't be an asshole.
"It's weird!!" Too bad, don't be an asshole.
"It's greedy!" Sorry no one wants to date you.
"Poly people just have attachment/commitment issues!" Huh???
"I could never!" Then don't.
Like, you don't have to date poly people, just don't be a dick!! It is NOT that hard!!
Inspired by the brief period of time I thought I was polyamorous because I felt the same way about my boyfriend as I did my best friends and I hadn't clocked yet that all of those feelings were platonic
relationship anarchy/polyamory/non-monogamy reminder: being successfully open in your relationship and unlearning toxic/compulsory monogamy does not equate to transcending all feelings of jealousy, fear, insecurity, uneasiness, or any other generally unsettling sensations that may arise when you or your partner are exploring other connections.
the real success of your non-traditional relationship style is measured by your ability to share these feelings willingly, transparently, and without judgment or projection into external blame, however embarrassing or irrational you may think they are, & your partner’s ability to empathize, listen, reassure, discuss, and/or analyze solutions with you at length as you decondition yourselves together.
Correct.
