October can’t come soon enough
This has been in my likes since last year. It is time.
This is the 21st night of September skeleton. He only appears once a year.
Your thoughts on the discord discussion?
I know a lot if the points I made were already bought up by the official announcement and from other creators statements, but I'm gonna give my insight.
I am a mod in the discord server. I’m disclosing that because 1. Its not a secret and 2. I do have a biased view based on that alone and I will not try and say I am unbiased.
The thing it’s that there’s a lot of discussions inside the “discord discussion” and all of them have to be taken carefully.
So, I will separate the discord discussion in topic.
1.Not being allowed to give negative criticism in the Discord server
This is not true. Both the mod team and the devs are open to criticism. There have channels dedicated to game feedback, game suggestions and discord suggestions.
What the mod team tries to prevent and sometimes it can get out of hand, and if that happens, call us out, we will apologize if we deem fit and we really stepped out of out places. But when people come to the server being rude about their feedback this is not something we allow, our priority is to create a safe space within the fandom and we will not jeopardize that in favor of some people being entitled and rude when sharing these opinions.
If you do have valid negative criticism, that’s not only allowed, but encouraged, as long as it’s constructive. Yes, tell the mod team and the dev team what they did wrong and watch them time and time again try to correct their actions and make your experience as a player more enjoyable.
I take for example the whole “the chapter got delayed” discussion, going simultaneously. As soon as they got criticism, the devs heard the public, Rafael, one of the coders, himself went out of his way to say “Yes, disclosing an specific date without being sure we could deliver at the time was a mistake” And they fixed it. Now in the website you get to see the progress of the chapter and how the production is going instead of only a date that might not be reached.
And actually today both the mod team and (one of the) devs were asking for people opinion about the discord server, and yeah, we got some criticism, which is great to have, so we can do better as a community.
What personally frustates me is that no one actually came and told us how they felt or how to improve the discord, we just get complains thrown at us from the confession blog and I feel like this could have been discussed in a less harsh manner.
2.Celebrity worship culture
I think this one is an exageration. And honestly it doesn’t really make sense. To have a celebrity worship you need to think of that person as unreachable, which is exactly the opposite that DG is trying to do, we have the devs talking directly to us and being approachable.
I think someone have seen us praising the devs for the good job, that they do, and thought it was some kind of worship when actually is something server wise. The uplifting and calling people queens/kings and stanning people is not something done only to the devs, but also to several “normal” server members.
We try to be positive and praise people for the things they do well, no one there is actually perfect and have never made any mistakes on their lives uwu, but they try to make a place that makes people happy.
3.Language barrier
I think there was only one person complayning about it, but I will say a few things on the matter.
The game is in English, it makes sense the assumption that most people playing it know English (Not all, I know that, I’m part of the Brazilian fandom and a bunch of them don’t know english, I’m working with majorities here). It makes sense to make the official server for a game in English to be in English.
There are a few people in the fandom who know how hard it is to talk in english and being insecure with knowledge with that, and that’s why these people create other servers/groups, this is why we have a lot of facebook groups in the latine fandom, for example. There is a Brazilian, a Polish server and a Spanish made by fans who wanted to give people this space where they could be more comfortable. This might sound mean, but if you want a non english fandom space, you can create it.
Also, as a final argument for the english only is how hard it is to moderate these channels. You need at least one mod that knows each language, and if there’s no mod that knows that language, we can’t create a chat with that language and then we create even more of a difference between “those who have channels for their languages and those who don’t”. And even if the mod team is diverse language wise, having one person to mod an entire chat is hard, specially considering there are 30 other chats you also have to mod.
4.Discord privileges/lack of updates on other social media
Here the lines get a little blurry, because there are some good points and really bad ones.
Until recently Serena was responsible for all social media accounts of the company while she tried to do her job justice as the Vice President of Dulcet Games, while being simultaneously the main writer for Sweet Elite. As many of you know the company is expanding and wants to offer new stories by shining light on new talent. This would require a recrument process in which Serena was took part as well. These task are very time consuming and mentally straining, after all she's a human like you and me as well.
She was candid with us on why the chapter got delayed. She disclosed sensitive information when she had no obligation to do so.
This is also one of the mistakes they recognized and are now working to better themselves. With a new community manager, that we do get to meet more in the discord server, but that has been responsible for the Black Tarot love interests and the live that Andy did to talk about Black Tarot.
Also, there should be an understanding of the difference between social media and the discord server. The discord server is used for more engaged fans to interact with each other and the devs and grow the community. Social media is used to give announcements with updates and get traction. So while what is done in social media can easily be done on discord, having the same environment as the discord outside of discord is nearly impossible.
Now about exclusive content.
This is what I firmly disagree with. First of all, there’s not a significative change on how much you enjoy the game based on the spoilers. You are not loosing any content, you still get the episodes. You just don’t get extra stuff, and that’s fair.
Not only fair, but the team is actually being kind enough to offer this kind of content for free, other companies would make you pay for this kind of content, through patreon, for example.
So here are the devs, in special Serena saying “I don’t really like tumblr and I think we will be more successful on discord to generate engagement with the community” and then she sets advantages that favor the vision she wants for the company. That’s valid, its her content, she can share it however she wants, she could even not share it at all.
On the hand of “the community should choose where the community should be”
Well, do your choice. Me and many other content creators like discord better, we get more feedback and comments besides likes and ngl, it fels nice. Serena didn’t put a gun in our heads and said “only produce to discord’ we did it that ourselves, this is the community deciding where it should be, which depends for each creator.
Your thoughts on the discord discussion?
I’ve many thoughts on this as a fan of Sweet Elite, a former event runner to the server and now as a Game dev on Dulcet Games.
The existence of the discord server is not bad at all. The functions discord offers with their platform are much better than many social media platforms can offer, including tumblr.
The platform allows players to be immediately able to communicate not only among each other but also with the devs of not only Sweet Elite but of Dulcet Games.
The ability of fans to have a direct link to the devs is unique to discord. Players are able to get fast responses from the devs but also the devs are able to ask fans quickly about their thoughts.
In my opinion, sharing spoilers which are exclusive to the discord server is not disenfranchising of anyone. The exclusive spoilers which are shared in the discord server are used so that people would join the server.
I can understand that not everyone wants to join the official Dulcet Game server, however, you don’t have to be very much to have access to the spoilers. Dulcet Games offers their exclusive spoilers for free on the official Dulcet Games discord server, which is also for free.
The game devs don’t have to share exclusive snippets to their game or to the company. Many companies offer only exclusive content after paying a price on Patreon. Many other companies also have an official server which allows for a direct link between players and game developers, however unlike the Dulcet Games server those services are not free, and you pay to be there.
Someone mentioned the need for a forum since it allows for interactions with players. This is the same function the Dulcet Game server has. It allows for players interactions.
There’s no requirement of having to write in perfect English as the majority of people there are not from English speaking countries, which also includes me. I do understand that many want a place where they can talk freely.
The biggest Sweet Elite fan group is on Facebook and was made by Spanish and Portuguese speaking fans.
Fans have even created their own Sweet Elite/Dulcet Games servers. There's a Portuguese Sweet Elite server, there's a Spanish Dulcet Game server and there's a Polish Sweet Elite server to name a few. All of these servers have been created by fans for fans because they recognised that they as a community have the means as well as they saw a void to be filled in.
Dulcet Games offers in their server a place for criticism. The company wants people to voice their opinion.
Not every feedback received is positive and no one reprimands negative feedback, but instead welcomes them as it allows the company and game devs to improve their products and services.
The only time moderators intervened is when negative feedback is rude, disrespectful and even includes personal attacks.
This behaviour is not okay, never and I’m glad the moderators take their function diligently.
The company has shown time and time again that they listen to feedback.
For example, the broken AP system after the company launched Kortia. The CEO of the company Olivier invited players to join him on a meeting, wanting players to hear feedback on the company’s new currency system which was only an idea back then.
The company encouraged fans to give their suggestions and still does encourages fans to give their opinion.
Many people took part in the meeting and in the process and many of them were never active in the server prior. The company allows players to vote on things they’re more eager to see implemented in the games, on the website and by company. The claim of celebrity worship going on in the server is not accurate. Players voice their appreciation to the developers, however, they mostly praise and compliment each other.
Uplifting someone with compliments and nice nicknames is not inherently toxic and negative, but rather beautiful as the community in the server recognises that each and every one of them is an amazing individual, deserving of praise and compliments.
The last point I'd like to address is about fans and fan content creators. I agree with the comments which were made by @dulcetgames, Andy and many others of my peers here.
There’s no obligation for any one of us to be on this platform. I love writing, and I’ll always cherish the tumblr community in my heart.
I do write on the server as well. Interacting with my content on the server feels less isolating as it is here and people do engage more with what I’m offering. Just like no one is entitled to exclusive to spoiler neither am I entitled to receiving any engagement on this platform through likes or reblogs.
I get a lot of requests.
I’ve more than 200 followers on this blog, I get daily more than 60 views daily just on web browser alone, but the likes and reblogs don’t reflect that. It’s either 10, 15 or 20 likes and perhaps two reblogs.
I am grateful for everyone who has liked and reblogged my content, but often it feels like your humanity gets denied on this platform as many just see you as a content-producing machine.
This is also backed by how some are wording their requests. For example: “Karol kiss” or “Do Alistair date.”
Discord allows me to not only socialise with the fandom however I get feedback, what was liked and what wasn’t.
I do ask people here on what they think I can improve on but I only get three likes and no respond.
At the end of the day, no artist or writer for the fandom is obligated to do something for this community, but we do it because it gives us joy.
I mean, I respect all opinions but these ones about the Discord I don’t get, I won’t lie. It takes two minutes to create a Discord account, I know, because I was one of those Tumblr fans who was sad that there were no spoilers of Sweet Elite on Tumblr. So what did I do? I went and created a Discord account. It was quite easy. And didn’t cost a single cent ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Should the other social media platforms also get important information about delays or issues, and so on? Yes. Absolutely. But this spoiler and exclusive thing….no one is entitled to spoilers. And if someone really wants to see them, to make a Discord account is very easy. I understood that it is a way of incentive for people to join the discord. The Tumblr is quite dead and to be honest, even the majority of fans themselves rather go to the Discord, than go to other social medias. All opinions are valid of course, but I am quite tired of this discussion clogging up the Sweet Elite tag when half of it has been solved, and the other half is just quite rude. If you are going to critique something, this is wonderful! But please do your research first, and most importantly, please do so in a respectable manner. As a casual fan of this game, this is one of the best fandoms I’ve ever been in, and I am just disappointed to see that this is how it’s going downhill now.
Enjoy :D
Tbf I’m just really proud of the fact I worked out how to make it good quality, video and sound wise and I’m having so much fun with it too. Thank you so much to all of you that support this little project, it makes me want to continue on 💕

In light of recent issues and criticisms:
The first thing we would like to address is that we are a team made entirely of volunteers. Everything about the creation of Sweet Elite has, even up to and beyond this point, been a learning experience for everyone on the team. We are not and have never claimed to be professionals. We continue to aim to create and present the best product we can at any given time, given our current skills. In the pursuit of that goal, we are happy to announce that the sprites are being entirely reworked and re-polished and will be released soon, we are actively working to address known bugs, and are working to optimize the game in other ways to ensure all our players have an increasingly positive experience.
In an ideal world we would be able to dedicate ourselves fully to perfecting the game, but unfortunately Sweet Elite is not a source of income for any of us. Many of us work, are in school, and have slews of other commitments. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are doing the best we can.
We would also like to stress that currently Sweet Elite is a DEMO. We made a decision, as a team, to release the demo to you all before releasing some of the above fixes, in part because we didn’t want to delay any longer for fans who have been waiting years for it, in part because some of the issues would only come to light with an open beta, and in part because we are all proud and excited of what we’ve been able to accomplish thus far.
All this said, we can finally address the issues that have been brought up following the beta release, both directly and indirectly.
In regards to all issues regarding staff applications and slow response times:
We have ALWAYS emphasized and made it clear that we do not want people applying to positions we have not advertised for. We make announcements when positions open and explicitly state what skill sets we are looking for. When we open up official recruitment, we do so in order to give a fair and unbiased chance to all applicants. Hence why unsolicited applicants will tend to have low priority and will often be rejected.
We get many emails every day, including bug catches, comments on game play, applications, submissions, and other important emails. Currently only one person is in charge of email (Serena) and she has plenty of other responsibilities. Emails are answered on a basis of priority and importance, and unfortunately answering emails for closed positions are not high priority. We are near 10,000 players. Please be patient when you send us emails. It is not out of personal spite or pride when there is a delay.
We are not and never will be obligated to consider someone for any position. The most important dynamic for our team has always been our ability to work effectively with each other, so if someone who applies for our team doesn’t have the sort of personality that will match well with the rest of us, it won’t work. It doesn’t matter how skilled you are, or how much you think you can help us. If you do not fit with the team personality-wise, you will not be part of the staff. Ultimately the only thing such a partnership would result in would be animosity and inefficiency, and would end up delivering subpar results to the fans.
In regards to a lack of professionalism/polish/internal organization /et cetera:
The members of the team are in constant contact with each other. We communicate almost daily and listen to each other’s inputs. Our business plan is fully developed, approved by professionals and includes forecasting numbers and marketing strategies, to name a few pieces. Serena has graciously offered to walk interested fans through portions of this plan and those interested are more than welcome in indicate such. However, please remember that Serena has plenty of other responsibilities and cannot be expected to do this on an individual basis.
We are a single, small, untrained volunteer staff that has created 70,000 lines code, over 100,000 words in the form of chapters, and over 2GB of drawn resources over two years working part time and ultimately have presented a rough product that we can now work to finesse. We’re proud of and more than willing to defend what we’ve accomplished thus far, and we know it requires organizational skill. This criticism isn’t valid and comes from a place of ignorance.
Any claims of “inside sources” of staff members giving away information about the internal functions of Sweet Elite are completely false at worse or highly distorted at best. It is shocking to us that this kind of misinformation could even be spread without any concrete proof. Sweet Elite is a culmination of years of experience in several fields and combined skills, and it would be flat out stupid for any staff member to throw this out of the window by spreading false information on the organization and essentially putting their own hard work in jeopardy.
Ultimately, we cannot control the rumors that may spread about us as a team, but we urge you to take everything with a grain of salt: the internal workings of Sweet Elite are highly confidential and have stayed that way for years. Anybody who claims otherwise is probably not aware of the full picture.
In regards to the artistic direction:
As stated earlier, the sprites are in the process of being redone and will be available soon. Hopefully you will like them more and if not, we are more than happy to listen to any critiques you may have of them!
We have always boasted a dual art style. The artists try to create cohesive art when possible, but ultimately they have always worked under the understanding that there will be two separate art styles for the game. Both artists have contributed tremendously to helping make Sweet Elite come to life, and no one on the team would ever want to squash their creative talents in order to adhere to a certain aesthetic. If this is something you cannot reconcile with, perhaps our game isn’t for you.
—
We are not addressing any individuals with this message and wanted to release this as a message to everyone, as there have been plenty of iterations of the above in one way or another. We love getting feedback from people. Any way we can improve our product is ultimately going to be beneficial for everyone. But at the end of the day, we need to prioritize what to improve and when, as there’s a lot of work to still be done. As such, we are more inclined to consider respectful critiques of our product that point out and address specific flaws, well thought-out suggestions, and polished opinions, as we can actually consider doing something about them. We can do nothing to address ad hoc generalizations and claims on individual staff members that only serve to elicit attention.
To those of you unhappy (and happy) with our game: we welcome (and want) your suggestions, but are no longer in the position that we can please everybody. We can only aim to please as many people as possible. To anyone that has been put off by the team and cannot forgive us for whatever reason, we’re sad to see you go, but we won’t beg you to stay, You are free to consume the media you choose. To everyone that has been supportive of us, a tremendous thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please continue to hold us accountable and help us deliver the best game we can.
TL;DR: This is a post full of nuances that really can’t be condensed down to single lines, but here’s an attempt: We will continue to address as many concerns as possible regarding Sweet Elite, but will do so on a priority basis that WE determine (please do try to read the entire post though).
Best,
The Sweet Elite Staff
PLEASE NOTE: The staff does not, in any way, condone harassing individuals or sending anon hate as a way of either criticizing OR defending anyone. While this post might have been prompted due to certain events, it is a general message and will continue to be our stance on things from here on out. Be kind to each other—ultimately this is just a game and people are free to voice their opinions. We wish everyone who has tried our game nothing but the best, regardless of whether they decide to stick with it or not.
has this been done yet?
