an epilogue (three weeks later)
Jamie and Raquel dated first before they moved in together. It lasted three weeks. They walked in frozen gardens, they took a painting class just for fun, and they talked about their mutually favorite books for hours.
Everything was so magical and golden, because they were just at their beginning. The laughs came easily and the conversation never dulled. When there ever was quiet, it brimmed with anticipation and not despair.
And Jamie wanted more, more, more. There were never enough minutes. Never enough words. Never enough lingering touches. More. She would dissolve herself wholly into this love and bloom from its rich soils.
A tiny voice spoke in her head, Too fast! Too fast? But when you’ve found the one, why bother waiting?
Jamie wasn’t stupid. She had been here before at the beginning, full of golden magic. She had seen it tarnish and decay, rot from the inside out.
Not this time, she hoped. Isn’t that what everybody hopes in the beginning? That this time, this match, would make all the difference.
But Raquel felt it, too. And maybe that would make all the difference this time.
It was three weeks before they kissed. But once they did, there was no holding back, only their future coming at them with blistering speed.
Wesley’s spare bedroom with the pirate painting wouldn’t be needed for long, but it was a welcome stepping stone from one life into the next. So Jamie thanked him for that. And she might ask him to sell her that pirate painting to bring to Raquel’s apartment that they would now share. She had grown quite fond of the silly thing in the end.

Incidentally, I also used these characters back when I played Miitopia on Switch... which seems like a lifetime ago now.
Yep, guess what I've been doing with my spare time!

Finished a pillow today. Comparing the merits of pillow forms vs loose stuffing like this old red one here.
Anyway, Raquel approves.
