also:
The Word of Your Body (Reprise)
Whispering
Those Youāve Known
The Song of Purple Summer
Melchior, in any situation
The stars too, tell of spring returning Ā Ā
āThereās a song in Spring Awakening for every single kid out there going through all of the issues of growing up. Thatās why Iām most proud to be part of this show.ā - Lea Michele
Underrated Songs From Popular Musicals
Hamilton: The Election of 1800
- That beat
- Some of the cleverest lyrics in the show
-Ā āCan we get back to politics? Please??ā
- For as much asĀ āWashington on Your Sideā is loved, Iām surprised no one talks about this one
Dear Evan Hansen: Requiem
- This show isnāt as music-heavy as a lot of others, so there arenāt really any vastly underrated songs, but this one is so gorgeous and so seldom talked about
- Chilling in the best way
- Just because someone dies tragically, doesnāt mean theyāre absolved of the damage they caused in their life
Heathers: Dead Girl Walking (Reprise)
- The catchy, powerhouse beat and sound of the original song, but used in a better, more meaningful (in my opinion) way
- The splices of the pep rally are so well done
- The symbolism of this riff being used for this scene is perfect
Falsettos: Iām Breaking Down
- Is it already loved and known? Yes. Does it still deserve more than it got? Yes.
- You can feel the desperation in the style of the score before Trina even sings the first note
- One of our best (and only) glimpses into Trinaās psyche
Next to Normal: Make Up Your Mind/Catch Me Iām Falling
- Big ouch
- So musically pretty, but so heart-wrenching
- The heartbeat of the drum at the end is shiver-inducing
-Ā āCatch me Iām fallingā is just?? Such a perfect lyric?? For this, but just also in general??
Newsies: Thatās Rich
- Literally no one likes this song and Iām mad
- Such an iconic self-love anthem??
- Itās not annoying, ok? Itās fun and funny and a really sweet insight into Medda as a character (pretty much the only one we get)
Spring Awakening: Touch Me
- Sounds like really good contemporary poetry
- Is actually about masturbation and soul-crushing touch starvation
- Iām omitting āThe Dark I Know Wellā andĀ āMy Junkā from this spot, because while they are both overlooked songs from SA, I believe that theyāre rightfully overlooked (especially in comparison to other numbers from the soundtrack like this one)
- Perfectly captures the feeling of physical loneliness with vivid fantasy aesthetics
Into the Woods: Your Fault
- SO perfectly Sondheim
- Incredibly musically complex and intricate
- In a musical full of showy solos and duets, āYour Faultā stands out
Fun Home: Days And Days
- Ouch.
- Ouch.
- Ouch.
- This is the song I was desperately hoping that the musical would have, if that makes sense
- Fun Home needed this song and itās short and not vocally impressive, but it is heartbreaking
-Ā āDonāt you come back here. I didnāt raise you to give away your daysā¦like me.ā
CHICAGO (2002) Ā Dir. Rob Marshall

Maxie: This is why you only have one friend.
Pod: You're a terrible leader.
David: I have known this for quite a while.
David: But didn't bother telling anyone since I didn't want to give up the fancy chair.
