Remus couldn’t stop his grin from widening as James spoke. It meant a lot to him, hearing that Fleamont cared about him just as much as he did the others. Of course he knew, but hearing it out loud hit him differently. His relationship with his own father was quite complicated, so having Fleamont treat him as one of his own meant the absolute world to him. “I didn’t choose you.” He corrected with a smirk, “I was kidnapped against my will by the lot of you and now I’m in too deep.” Remus chuckled once, softly, before nodding his head. “Yeah, I’ll look over it. But I’ll wait until the others are here.” He knew that task may be too much for James to handle, he was more than willing to take on that responsibility for him.
Pushing open the door to the study, the pair of them walked through the familiar house down to the kitchen. Remus smiled to himself as he thought back on the many memories they had built within these walls. “Don’t mention it.” He replied easily, it really wasn’t a big deal. Even if he had been asleep, he still would have been over there as quickly as possible. He would do anything for his friends. They reached the kitchen rather quickly and Remus headed for the cupboard he knew Euphemia hid her sweets, opening it up as though he was in his own home. “You feeling sweets, too?” He questioned, knowing that James’ sweet tooth wasn’t quite as large as his.
“How touching Moony,” James joked with a barking laugh although nothing could put a damper on his good mood now that Remus was home and he had agreed to help him out. His friend’s grins and smirks also helped. “You love playing innocent, but you are just as devious as the rest of us.” James nodded and put the will from his thoughts for now, it felt right, after all, to deal with it when the four of them were together–– they always faced their toughest battles that way. Full moons, death, and war, they didn’t stand a chance if the Marauders were together.
James made a beeline for the fridge, seeing what kind of leftovers they had. He grinned at the sight of his mom’s spinach puffs and took them out of the fridge, popping some into his mouth even before he performed the heating spell on them. His mind drifted off to Lily for a second, the last time he had seen her before tragedy struck. The way she laughed as he tried to work out her microwave. “I’ll take some cauldron cakes,” James said when Remus’ voice dragged him back to the present, smiling as she saw Remus had found the cupboard easily. Euphemia Potter had never minded when the boys went through her stash of sweets, but she enjoyed changing her hiding places, to keep Remus amused. As far as the Potters were concerned, the Marauders were entitled to anything in their home, from empty beds to cauldron cakes. “Spinach puffs?” James offered as he continued to eat them. “Also, is this a beer kind of night or a coffee kind of night?”
