I'm reconnecting with my extended family, and one of my aunts who I haven't seen since I was 8 had another kid, who's a toddler right now.

And she told me that she looks like how I did when I was that little. And I genuinely felt so much affection in my heart and I need to die I'm so fucking old oh my god (/j)

I'm gifting this kid a warrior cat's book when their 8, so they can go down the same rabbit hole I did.

"Friend" is an AI wearable device designed to provide "companionship + emotional support"— i.e replace human friendships. Its literally an AI chatbot that you wear around your neck. "Friend" just paid for the largest ad campaign in NYC subway history

Though yeah, I will say while watching the episode, as much as I loved it, it does contradict the story a bit. Specifically, with J and N.

I can buy that J cared about V, they were the most similar to each other. And with Tessa gone, the only people J had to choose from by that point was V, N or Cyn. Everybody else was dead, or were people they were assigned to kill. Who else did she have?

But J.. kills N in the pilot. Or she tries to, at least. She hates him. More than the new mini-episode portrays, with her shooting at his hand when he asked her for something.

She wants him dead. Canonically, she views him as a liability to the team, and terrible at his job. In fandom, people often switch her motive to jealousy, since N seemed to be Tessa's favorite. Or in my own interpretation, N was just the first drone after herself that Tessa successfully revived, so her jealousy was lazer-focused on him, rather than on V, Cyn or any of the other drones Tessa revives.

She reaches out to V in the finale, with the promise that they would be better off on the winning side. She expected this out of N, but she thought V was better than that.

I can absolutely buy that J wasn't only out for herself. Even if she told herself that. Because in the end, if she discarded both of her teammates, she'd be alone once Cyn's mission was complete.

But I can't buy that J ever specifically cared about N.

That is, if we want to put the pilot's canon above newly established canon. In reality from an outside perspective, J's character just wasn't thought out in the Pilot. So much has changed since the pilot and Murder Drones isn't famous for consistent writing. This is just another thing they changed. And in my opinion, for the better. This is pretty much how the fandom portrayed J anyways.

Like yeah, it's a merch advertisement and Liam Vickers didn't write it. But it was a good mini-episode. And gives us a lot of insight on one of the most ignored "primary" characters. I'm not gonna be pedantic and say it's not worth giving water to because it didn't technically happen in the series. Fandoms pick and choose canon all the time. And that's exactly what I'm gonna do here lmao.
