This month is very special. We have 2 diamonds of the month: The mother and father of Mike Brown, the unarmed 18 year old who was recently murdered by a police officer in Ferguson,MO. This tragedy sparked an uprising in St.Louis and across the globe. People want justice and answers and peacefor this family. We want to extend our condolences to the family of Mike Brown. And give them our respect for their poise and courage throughout such a trying time.

PR Noir is wrapping up a wonderful month of June with our #DiamondOfTheMonth,  Laverne Cox. She caught our eyes this year for being known as the first transgendered woman of color to have a leading role in a mainstream scripted television show. You may know her from the series “Orange Is The New Black”.

This diamond doesn’t stop with acting. She is using her voice to empower other transgenders by bringing awareness about who they REALLY are in hopes of diffusing the unrealistic and unfair expectations the media shows the public as it relates to how they should live their lives as a people.

We are proud of this diamond. She is taking the world on head first and we LOVE it.

The whole PR-Noir.com team is saddened by this loss, but I know from reading three of your memoirs, you have lived enough for three lifetimes. You were an absolute inspiration in my life and I am so blessed to have heard you speak. Thank you for all of your contributions to Black Womanhood, you made us feel smart, pretty, and loved. You woke us up and helped us to realize we are worth more than two nickels rubbing together in some man's back pocket. You made us phenomenal and you told us to rise. For that we are eternally grateful. Rest easy Dr. Maya Angelou.

Lupita Nyong’o may not come from a background of obvious hardship and by that I mean a “humble” neighborhood, but she has shed a light on a massive epidemic within communities of color. The idea of inadequacy as related to the way a young girl might view the pigment of her skin is a very real problem. At Essence’s most recent Black Women in Hollywood Event Lupita was not shy about her journey to feeling her beauty and for that PR-Noir.com applaud’s her. We see her as an absolute inspiration to women across the globe and recognize her diamond soul from our couch as we watch her on the television screen. Thank you Lupita, you are some small girl’s “Alek Wek” and you are a bonafide diamond, in our eyes, who handled stress exceptionally well.

Lupita Nyong'o wins Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and PR-Noir.com's "Diamond of the Month"

HERE IS HER AWESOME ACCEPTANCE SPEECH:

"Thank you to the Academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s. And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey for her guidance. And for Solomon, thank you for telling her story and your own.

Steve McQueen, you charge everything you fashion with a breath of your own spirit. Thank you so much for putting me in this position, it’s been the joy of my life. [Tears, applause.] I’m certain that the dead are standing about you and watching and they are grateful and so am I.

Chiwetel, thank you for your fearlessness and how deeply you went into Solomon, telling Solomon’s story. Michael Fassbender, thank you so much. You were my rock. Alfre and Sarah, it was a thrill to work with you. Joe Walker, the invisible performer in the editing room, thank you. Sean Bobbitt, Kalaadevi, Adruitha, Patty Norris, thank you, thank you, thank you — I could not be here without your work.

I want to thank my family, for your training [laughs] and the Yale School of Drama as well, for your training. My friends the Wilsons, this one’s for you. My brother Junior sitting by my side, thank you so much, you’re my best friend and then my other best friend, my chosen family.
